A very solid neighborhood/date night restaurant in a neighborhood that could use more of both of those things. Just try not to fight each other over the squid ink pasta.

Fantastic food. The squid ink pasta is one of my wife’s favorites. That’s the reason we come back. The service is top notch. The staff is welcoming once you step through the doors. The waiters provide professional service that is 2nd to none.

Pasta with beef sugo was outstanding. I'd go back for that dish. Otherwise too noisy for comfortable conversation until the people next to us left.

The appetizers were a bit disappointing (the shrimps a bit dry). The pasta was excellent (even though the fish was not very moist and tender). The burger was ok. We prefer the old chef.....we have also noticed that the price went a bit up. For the same price we now prefer Franses in the Castro.

Great date night. My boyfriend called the chef out to tell him that it was the best meal we have ever had. Cannot recommend it enough.

Great place. From the hostess greeting and being escorted to the bar while our table was prepped, the bartender who recommended some interesting drinks (to the waitstaff and food, this is a must go to place in San Francisco.
On the trolley line, so easily accessible
Noise level moderate to high, but that is due to the great time it seems everyone, patrons and staff are having.

If there were a sixth star I would recommend that.

It was quite a disappointment.
Ambiance: not the one which puts you in a cheerful mood, kind of gloomy and less cozy then we thought would be looking at the beautifully made pictures on this site.
Food: trying to be original and creative but failing at taste department big time. everything we tasted was having kind of the same flavor, and though we originally wanted to taste as much as possible, after the second course decided to skip desserts.
Service: was "average good".
Value: if you consider the size of the dishes was not so good.
Conclusion: not worth making 0.8mi trip from the hotel for this kind of experience.

The service was excellent, the waiter knowledgeable about the food - including its preparation. The best item on the menu last night? The Hamachi Crudo.

Thought the place was lovely and fun but food was just okay! It tasted fine but I wouldn't have expected that high price for those dishes. It felt like they were trying to create an otherworldly food experience that missed the mark. But the wine and beer list was great!

My fiance and I went to Stones Throw & enjoyed one of the finest dinners we have ever had. Meal was 10/10. Wine was 10/10. Service was 15/10. 5 star everything for a 3 star budget. Well done Stones Throw. We will be back!

We went for our anniversary, and they even wrote us a card! The spacing between the tables is very close, so don’t expect to have a private or intimate conversation. However, the food is amazing, and we will definitely go back.

Food wasn't as good as I remembered. The presentation was great but the flavors and quality were not as high as I recalled from the last time I went several years ago. I was most disappointed with the hamachi crudo. It didn't strike me as a high quality piece of fish (lots of red in the meat) and the flavor was only so so. The trout was tasty but oversalted. The squid ink pasta had a nice bite and flavor but the pasta was only fair. The octopus had a beautiful presentation but was a bit too chewy. Maybe my expectations were just too high but I didn't feel like the high quality experience I expected.

Our first trip to Stones Throw was a very nice experience. The bartender was terrific, talking beers with my husband and letting him try a couple before ordering. The steelhead trout two of the four of us had was some of the best fish I have ever tasted...melted in the mouth and delicious flavor. We were all disappointed by the puffed potatoes and egg; we found them to be bland and WAY over-hyped. But the heirloom tomato salad was spot on and very tasty. We had a really lovely bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and liked it so much we ordered a second. We would definitely go back and try it again.
Service was good, but sometimes almost too efficient. What is it about restaurants that want to remove every empty plate or glass while people are still eating? I find it to be rude and somewhat pushy. Please let people enjoy their meal without being interrupted, THEN clear the dishes away. It makes the experience so much nicer and enjoyable.

We have been to Stone's Throw several times. We have always had wonderful meals until last night. I ordered the octopus to start. The octopus was visibly burnt and had a horribly bitter taste. I sent the octopus back to the kitchen, which I rarely ever do. The second version was less burned, fatty, slimy version. I can't fathom how a chef would comfortably pervert this wonderful dish, not once but twice.

My fiancé started with the burrata. It was runny, warm and lacked flavor. It was accompanied by a "sauce" containing whole peppercorns. As my fiancé aptly put it, every bite contained a peppercorn surprise. Less than ideal.

For my main I chose the squid ink pasta. It was tasty, however anything cooked in butter and garlic is tasty. My fiancé had the lamb. The sauce was a bizarre, salty mess, contaminating the food.

Overall, we were very disappointed with this restaurant's rapid decline. A waste of our time and money.

Service was nice and polite but we felt Very Rushed. Our risotto was under was under cooked and rice was hard. I felt that they were trying to turn the table in 35 minutes. Not a good policy. Never going back because of the overall experience.

We went to celebrate a friend's new job and this was the perfect evening. We were fortunate enough to catch happy hour, and our waiter was great and made sure we were able to order a second glass right before it ended. We shared all of the food family style, allowing us to try more things - 2 snacks, 1 starter, 2 pastas, the burger and dessert. It was the perfect amount of food and everything was delicious.

We heard about this neighborhood gem from several very satisfied recent diners who raved about Stone's Throw. We were seeking a Sunday supper spot in SF far from the maddening crowd that offered fresh, innovative food. While the menu is limited there were enough choices to make even a Pescatarian happy to return several times. I understand the menu changes often and I will make my dinner reservation at Stone's Throw on my next trip to SF.
Parking is very limited so to enhance your experience take the cable car to this Hyde Street location.

The dinner at Stone's Throw was just okay. We really enjoy their other restaurant Trestle and were looking forward to this dinner, but we were disappointed. The octopus appetizer was very good. But strange selections. The desserts sounded great but again, were fair. The atmosphere had a lot to be desired.
