Food inspired from past experiences at a slew of four star restaurants is turned into fun and approachable every day dining with a seasonally changing menu. Enjoyed a great meal with my partner and our 9 month old. Restaurant was super accommodating with the baby and even provided a high chair. We shared several snack plates and a main course - poached shrimp with citrus and short rib sugo were standouts. Desserts seemed interesting but weren’t spectacular (grasshopper and pbj donuts...my partner adored the donuts). Loved finding a good restaurant for an evening out where it seemed welcome for us to bring the little one!
The friendly service really helps pave the way for enjoying your meal here. Amazing list of inventive cocktails help make any get together fun.
The menu for Sunday Brunch is evenly paced with sweet and savory selections to please every palate. It’s a neighborhood gem.
We really enjoyed this friendly, casual neighborhood restaurant. Service is very attentive without being formal.
We had the octopus, conchigle, liver pate, pork trio, trout, and risotto - and enjoyed all of them.
The only comment to make is while the quality of the food is excellent and well presented, we thought the main course prices were a tad high for the quantity served. However, we would definitely return.
We all really enjoyed this place. The food was very good, as was the service. The place is very comfortable. It has a good feel, not too loud. Reasonably priced. The firebrand bread is so tasty. The duck liver mouse was very good as was a shrimp dish we had. For starters, the squash soup & squid ink pasta were both excellent. For Mains, the trout, pork trio & ricotta gnocchi were all excellent. We ordered a dessert to share, grasshopper pie, only because it was a birthday. Everyone was too full, but we ate it and it was so good. Wine list is reasonably priced. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be a regular. I've already recommended it
We had an absolutely incredible time at Stone’s Throw! Everything was delicious, and the staff was incredibly kind and courteous! The peanut butter and jelly donuts are so good - my fiancée and I had been dreaming about them for months after the last time we came here, so we just had to come back. My favorite restaurant in San Francisco, hands down!
The appetizers were a bit disappointing (the shrimps a bit dry). The pasta was excellent (even though the fish was not very moist and tender). The burger was ok. We prefer the old chef.....we have also noticed that the price went a bit up. For the same price we now prefer Franses in the Castro.
Great place. From the hostess greeting and being escorted to the bar while our table was prepped, the bartender who recommended some interesting drinks (to the waitstaff and food, this is a must go to place in San Francisco.
On the trolley line, so easily accessible
Noise level moderate to high, but that is due to the great time it seems everyone, patrons and staff are having.
If there were a sixth star I would recommend that.
It was quite a disappointment.
Ambiance: not the one which puts you in a cheerful mood, kind of gloomy and less cozy then we thought would be looking at the beautifully made pictures on this site.
Food: trying to be original and creative but failing at taste department big time. everything we tasted was having kind of the same flavor, and though we originally wanted to taste as much as possible, after the second course decided to skip desserts.
Service: was "average good".
Value: if you consider the size of the dishes was not so good.
Conclusion: not worth making 0.8mi trip from the hotel for this kind of experience.
Thought the place was lovely and fun but food was just okay! It tasted fine but I wouldn't have expected that high price for those dishes. It felt like they were trying to create an otherworldly food experience that missed the mark. But the wine and beer list was great!
Food wasn't as good as I remembered. The presentation was great but the flavors and quality were not as high as I recalled from the last time I went several years ago. I was most disappointed with the hamachi crudo. It didn't strike me as a high quality piece of fish (lots of red in the meat) and the flavor was only so so. The trout was tasty but oversalted. The squid ink pasta had a nice bite and flavor but the pasta was only fair. The octopus had a beautiful presentation but was a bit too chewy. Maybe my expectations were just too high but I didn't feel like the high quality experience I expected.
