A very solid neighborhood/date night restaurant in a neighborhood that could use more of both of those things. Just try not to fight each other over the squid ink pasta.
Fantastic food loved all of it!
Really enjoy Stones Throw; super friendly service and great neighborhood spot; food very nice, although many dishes needed a touch more salt/acidity; burger is great! Our 3rd or 4th time here! Great dessert too! Incredible value for quality
This was our first time at Stones Throw. We had a wonderful experience. Service was excellent. The ambience is charming. The food was delicious. The portions are on the small side. We will order a couple more plates next time. It's also worth noting that it's about half a mile away from North Beach. You can go for a nice stroll, if you don't mind a couple hills, and be in North Beach in 20 minutes and catch a show at Cobb's or what have you. This is a great spot.
All four of us agreed the food was close to excellent and the value was very high. After leaving we all said we would return. For me, not necessarily for the others, the noise level was very high and I had a hard time hearing. my tablemates. Just take that into consideration if you have a loss of hearing.
Came here for my wife’s birthday & everything was wonderful. Tyler, who runs the bar & manages the wine list was great! All the dishes are fantastic with the highlights being the foie gras, squid ink pasta, pork trio & burger.
Second time here. Wonderful restaurant. Starting with drinks - great cocktails and great beer list. Menu is short, but nice variety. I had Puffed Potato and Eggs - a must-have if you go - and the Trio of Berkshire pork.
This is also one place you don't want to skip dessert. Very creative selections and they invite suggestions for future dessert options. We had the PB and Jelly donuts - very shareable and tasty.
Service was excellent, loved our server. They worked very hard for us.
Coworkers out of town - this is the perfect place to show off San Francisco’s hospitality. From a welcome champagne to attentive and helpful servers, we felt super special. Save room for dessert!!!! Love the new rhubarb cheesecake
Good place and service! The food amazing!!!
Food exceptionally delicious!
Wonderful service; some of the best everQ
I wanted the evening to be special and unique as we celebrated my husband's 60th. Living in SF, we are spoiled with great dining options yet the same restaurants seem to be on all of the lists of best in SF, while others like Stone's Throw, might not show up on any list. By expanding my search and asking other locals for recommendations, I found Stone's Throw. It was one of the best dining experiences my husband and I have had in our 5 years of living in SF.
We ordered one of the evening specials, grilled Branzino. Our professional, low key and helpful waiter suggested we share it which made for the perfect portion. I love fish and order it often and this Branzino was one of the most delicious meals we have EVER had. It melted in our mouths. We started our celebration with the endive pear salad, bolognese and an order of the bread. All were awesome. (Tartine has nothing on this bread/ butter.)
After the meal we had the nutter butter dessert. It was artistic, mouth watering and a perfect birthday experience candle on top. All in all this was the perfect celebration I had hoped to create for my husband's birthday. We look forward to returning to this Russian Hill neighborhood gem.
The food at Stones Throw is delicious! Almost everything we tried left us wanting more of it. We went for a birthday brunch celebration with friends. Stones Throw was very accommodating with our reservation as we first had to change it from 6 to 8 when two additional people got added to our party and then two other people cancelled at the last minute so we ended up being 6 after all. The only complaint was the service. Our server started off very attentive but checked on us less and less as things went on and we had to flag her down several times to get refills on our mimosas. This was a sour point because we ordered the "bottle of mimosa your way" off the menu. The server would pour the sparkling wine and bring small carafes of orange juice and grapefruit juice for us to mix as we liked. We had to several times request more orange juice as the portions provided were very small and were eventually told there was no more orange juice. This was surprising for a brunch place that served mimosas. We asked the manager about it and were provided more orange juice. This was the only disappointing moment of the brunch. I will assume that it was just an off day for the server and would go to Stones Throw again.
This is one of my favorite restaurants SF.
Delicious Branzino. I hope to see it on the menu again.
It was a birthday dinner with good Friends, I was greeted with a card wishing me a happy birthday(nice touch) Great meal ensued, wonderful service and we all want to go back soon!
Attentive, engaging staff that obviously loves what they do. Food was off the charts good. Great experience.
Absolutely fantastic, this is our favorite place in the city!
Food lacked flavour. It tasted good but was definitely not great. And the price made it less so.
It was ok. But with so many options in sf I wouldn’t recommend it.
Rarely write reviews but had such a great experience at Stones Throw felt like I really should. Had an outstanding dinner, from start to finish was truly excellent. From the hostess seating us right away to the excellent service to the truly exceptional food, it was truly special. Get the pasta with braised short rib, I would have that once a week for the rest of my life. All of the food was great and the wine/beer list was extensive. Do not hesitate, just go.
Would love to see more vegetarian options. I likely won’t be back unless I’m with a meat eater
Always terrific food and fantastic service. One of my favorite places.
Strange service. Either no one was helping us (sat for 20 minutes before we were asked if we wanted anything to drink) or several people were attending to us at the same time. Not a busy night, so unsure what was going on. Everyone was very friendly. Biggest problem was the noise level, despite there being several empty tables. Other issue was value, or lack thereof. Very expensive for what you got. $3 for one piece of bread cut in 1/2 to make two pieces of toast. Presentation of food was excellent. Except for red velvet cake, which was dry, food was creative and tasty.
I went with my boyfriend for his 21st and we had a great time. Really great service, got seated early when we showed up early for our reservation, and they were able to accommodate my vegan diet which was so nice. They gave my boyfriend a complementary mini desert for his birthday, and everyone there was just really sweet to us the whole night. It's a bit on the expensive side but I think it's worth it for special occasions to get great service and good food.
Me and my fiance were visiting San Francisco from New Jersey and this place was recommended by a friend.
This restaurant is in such a quiet residential neighborhood. But finding parking is an absolute hassle. There is none available.
The place in itself is very cute and well decorated. Loved the arrangements.
The food is very unique. I highly recommend the Squid Ink appetizer. Its mind blowing. All in all a great place to eat with a unique menu.
Great food but portions were slightly small for men. A little flow on service but nice servers.
Food was good but nothing exceptional. Service was fantastic!
Great menu, food, and service - what more can you ask for? A small neighborhood joint with world class cuisine. From the moment we walked in were treated with warmth and grace by all. The Cauliflower Puree with potato is their item of note and worth ordering as is the pate (amazing), the pork and the ragu I had. Then we had the nutter butter like dessert. Just a crazy great combination of flavors and textures. So glad a friend recommended this place when he heard we were going to San Francisco. On Hyde and Green in Russian Hill, we walked from our Union Square restaurant which was a bit daunting due to the hills but made us ready for the delightful meal ahead. I enjoy being in a place where it is obvious everyone there loves their job and is proud of where they work - that point of pride makes for an extraordinary evening
Very nice restaurant. The grilled shrimp was excellent.
This is my favorite restaurant in SF. The food never disappoints. It’s flavorful, approachable, and always beautifully plated. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable - they will never steer you wrong. The Puffed Potato & Egg” dish is phenomenal and something I crave regularly.
Enjoyed a great meal with my partner and our 9 month old. Restaurant was super accommodating with the baby and even provided a high chair. We shared several snack plates and a main course - poached shrimp with citrus and short rib sugo were standouts. Desserts seemed interesting but weren’t spectacular (grasshopper and pbj donuts...my partner adored the donuts). Loved finding a good restaurant for an evening out where it seemed welcome for us to bring the little one!
This small formidable
Fantastic taste profile, unique presentations. Excellent cocktails. Service was spot on. Blah/bland dining room. Could use a pop of color to match the inspiring cuisine.
The friendly service really helps pave the way for enjoying your meal here. Amazing list of inventive cocktails help make any get together fun.
The menu for Sunday Brunch is evenly paced with sweet and savory selections to please every palate. It’s a neighborhood gem.
Even though two days have passed since our brunch at Stones Throw, I am still thinking about how wonderful and delish the food was. Everything about Stones Throw is “hi-qual” (as my son would say).
Absolutely amazing experience! Prompt and attentive service. Creative menu and innovative use of ingredients. Do not skip on dessert! It was the most fun and delicious course.
Stones Throw is always a great meal and is very consistent. My fiancée and I love going there with friends and sharing the snacks and appetizers. I’m particular the liver toasts, potato puffs, squid ink pasta, and octopus are all delicious!!
Wonderful service, delightful food. Portions were just the right size and very flavorful.
Solid beer and wine lists, great food, and excellent, friendly service makes this place different. Imaginative kitchen offers plenty of choices.
Excellent service and delicious food. This is a very warm and friendly place.
We really enjoyed this friendly, casual neighborhood restaurant. Service is very attentive without being formal.
We had the octopus, conchigle, liver pate, pork trio, trout, and risotto - and enjoyed all of them.
The only comment to make is while the quality of the food is excellent and well presented, we thought the main course prices were a tad high for the quantity served. However, we would definitely return.
We had a reservation at 5:30. It was our first time visiting Stonesthrow
