Food was not worth the price. Slow service. Small portions. Temperature of food wasn’t on point.
Stones Throw always treats us like royalty. We will miss them so much. At least I know that they have other venues around town and we will find them and enjoy the same fabulous food and service we have thoroughly enjoyed through the years.
The food here was soooo good. Ambiance was great. Wine selection was good with the food being served.
Delicious as always. Will very much miss this neighborhood fav.
Used to love this place, but I'm not disappointed that they are closing. Not even remotely the same restaurant from a few years ago.
truffles are not fresh❗️
Great experience. We were celebrating an engagement and a birthday and they went out of their way to make the night special. Stones Throw will be missed!
Unfortunately Stones Throw will be closing its doors on Russian Hill and moving to the Financial District.
Everything they make is delicious and seems special. We had the tasting menu. Only wish we had more of
everything as it was so good.
First of all, this place does NOT have a full bar. I couldn’t believe none of the reviews I read mentioned this. Only beer and wine. Not great.
We ordered a bunch of appetizers; the fried potato and eggs, mushroom cannelloni, burrata and squash salad, and the octopus with sun-chokes. Everything was pretty tasteless, with the exception of the octopus which had this overpowering crunching taste I can’t pinpoint. But it was not good. The fried potato and egg app was the best and that’s only because you can’t mess up fried anything.
The main courses were the short rib and the olive oil poached trout. Neither was good.
Pretty disappointed all around about my one night dinner plan for SF for a quick weekend trip.
Amazing as always! This place will always hold a special place in my heart for not just great food, but unparalleled service. As perfect as a restaurant can be.
We heard good things about this restaurant. Although the service was very attentive, we were extremely disappointed in the portion size, especially given the prices. The deserts were overly sweet.
Food was delicious, service excellent but my food was served cold.
I love this restaurant. Extremely sad to see it close but I hope the menu in some iteration will live on at other locations!
Food is outstanding!
Very rushed, disjointed service. Disappointing because that was my last experience at Stones Throw and I have enjoyed it in the past. Not sure what that means for their new place.
Fantastic food and the service was a step above. I'm sorry to see it go!
loved it ! can’t wait for
Not worth the price. The ambience is good. Service was slow and food was mediocre. We really enjoy trestle and had high hopes for this restaurant but we didn’t have a memorable meal.
Our table did the pre-fixe menu. It was okay (B rating). I have been to the other Hi Neighbor restaurants and I was expecting more from this one. Trestle is fantastic. The food was fine and the service and ambiance were really nice. It just didn't wow.
wonderful service and everyone loved the food.
Was amazing as always! Loved the uni spaghetti.
Been coming here for a few years now - staff is excellent just like the food.
Stones Throw has always been a neighborhood favorite of mine. The service will make you feel warm and welcome, and the food is outstanding in flavor and presentation. We'll miss having you in Russian Hill! Please come back soon!
We tried the new tasting menu for $40 per person. It was excellent and they were very accommodating of my vegetarian preference.
The food was superb but the staff might just be even better. They were so friendly and welcoming to me and my family. Truly delicious brunch with an eccentric yet homey feel. Would definitely recommend!
Amazing restaurant ! Their menu at 40$ is so worth it, well balanced tasty menu! Too bad they have to close soon
Good wine & beer list. Unique & fun plating. Did I mention a great beer list? Food is great but portions are small.
Prix fixe menu was a great deal. I would recommend making a reservation before the end of the year as they are closing :(
Best place in the city so far! Brunch was amazing.
Nice service with limited but quality food. Everyone loved the spare special an trout entree. Had the bread and butter which simple but tasty. No liquor license but wine and beer choices were good. Layout of drink menu was a little confusing. Overall nice place with good quality and fresh foood and prompt service.
We had an amazing time! The food was impeccable and I will certainly be back.
The food was great, and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend this place for a nice casual dinner.
I took a friend to dinner for her birthday, but I didn't mention this when making the reservation or checking in. The waiter noticed that I presented her with a gift and intuited it was her birthday. As a surprise he brought a small version of the PB & J donut on a plate that read Happy Birthday.
She was delighted and I was impressed....Nice touch.
I have been to plenty of high quality restaurants all over the world. Some of the food here was good and some wasn’t. The burger was over cooked and flavorless. The shrimp cocktail also was flavorless and amounts are so small. They use some modern gastronomy techniques at this restaurant restaurant and the value you get for money is ridiculous. They do have a good beer and wine selection. The potato egg snack with cauliflower purée was our favorite thing. The tomato and burrata salad was good as well. The French onion soup was our least fav. The carbonara was pretty good. The apple tart dessert was lacking in size and flavor. We won’t come back.
the brunch is the best deal in town! would recommend to anyone and everyone!
We really enjoyed a terrific meal, and the service is always friendly and professional - a brilliant combination with outstanding flavors
Stones Throw never disappoints, besides the delicious and innovative fare you can always count on heartfelt ,efficient service from the team who always seem ready to go above and beyond.
Good but loud
I love Stone's Throw for dinner, but I think that a lot of things need to be ironed out for their brunch service. Checking in and sitting down was smooth, but the food took a very long time to come, despite the fact that it's prix fixe. Our server was friendly, but a bit abrasive each time he came. Food wise, for $25, it's decent value for 3 courses. That said, I was expecting a bit more in terms of quality based on the high bar I have for them for dinner service. An example is their fried chicken dish, where the crust/skin separated very easily from the meat, to the point where I had a shell to eat separately. The breakfast sandwich wasn't too bad, but felt just like a regular ham sandwich that could easily be made at home with grocery store ingredients (ie. it wasn't special).
The place was a bit dark for a brunch, and the kitchen seemed to be struggling with getting the orders out. The brunch menu was limited and it took a long time for our order to come out. This place would be better for dinner.
We have eaten here a number of times before, had enjoyed the ambiance and the food, so arranged a dinner here. Because our friends were late coming from Marin, we got there at 5:45 instead of 5:30, when Stone's Throw opened. We were greeted with: "Oh, I thought you weren't coming." Fifteen minutes after opening time, restaurant still half empty. And it turned out Open Table was informed we had no-showed - I had to write them to correct it. Then the seafood pasta appetizer was ice cold, the portions in general were small, though the pasta with short rib sauce was still good. Then we ordered one dessert - the doughnuts, and they brought chocolate cake. The waitress was very nice - didn't charge for the seafood pasta and quickly brought the right dessert. But it was overall an unpleasant dining experience at a place where we had some very good meals in the past.
