What Insiders Are Saying
A very solid neighborhood/date night restaurant in a neighborhood that could use more of both of those things. Just try not to fight each other over the squid ink pasta.
Great service, food was fantastic and very uniquely prepared. Loved our experience and will be returning for more!
My opinion is being solicited by OpenTable, and in my opinion, restaurants that command high premiums need to offer exceptional value. I think Stone's Throw started out being fantastic, making them good value. But as the years go by, the innovation and creativity seems to remain stuck in time, while prices have grown according to industry standard. I'd consider $30-40 entrees to be worthy of "whoa". Sort of the founders' other restaurant, Trestle, which continues to be one of my favorites.
Great food, good prices, and wonderful atmosphere!! Highly recommend this place for any occasion or just after work.
Friendly staff, enthusiastic reception and lovely food. We had a great time.
Amazing on all counts!
Excellent food, great drink menu, cool atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff.
I always love going to Stones Throw. What a treat! The food is high end gourmet but without the expensive price tag. I ordered a salad and an asparagus soup since I was not very hungry. It was something I would aspire to make myself if only I could find he recipe. Everybody is so nice to us and I just have to say that Stones Throw is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Lucky me, because it is just two blocks away.
We were celebrating an engagement with friends. The host greeted us with a champagne toast. We were in great hands with the server too. She shared recommendations on the menu. Food was super tasty and it was a great evening overall. Thank you!
Overpriced for the quality. Seven Hills two blocks South has much better food for the price.
A little noisy and hard to hear. But food and service was great!
After living in the neighborhood for years, we finally got the opportunity to dine at Stones Throw and what a wonderful experience it was. Celebrating our anniversary with another couple, we ordered up from an interesting and thoughtful menu. The Burger is one of the best burgers I have had in this city and it will not disappoint in all it’s cheesiness. Great beer and wine selection and if room permits, do not miss the doughnuts-warm and fresh from the fryer. The service was spot-on and we could not have been made to feel more welcome including a happy anniversary greeting card signed by the entire staff, waiting at the table upon our arrival. Stones Throw is a class-act neighborhood establishment that just happens to serve intensely delicious food with impeccably focused service that will bring you back for seconds!
Great food and service. Next to large, lively party so noise levels high
Outstanding meal at Stones Throw. High quality, beautiful food. Each dish looked like a work of art. Flavors were fresh and perfecto balanced. Highly recommend and will definitely go back.
I had eaten here about a year ago, and really enjoyed it. Something has changed. The food was marginal, the service was glad-handy (servers telling us we were really going to enjoy things, so many times, better left for us to decide) and the food came out at ridiculously slow pace. Our wine was on ice at a side table, and the servers didn't come back to pour frequently enough. We spent 3 hours dining, without ordering dessert.
Great food and service!
Perfect service, brilliantly executed food from appetizer to dessert. Truly a gem.
Great service and the food was amazing.
Food ok but not great. Service ok — food took a long time to arrive. Chef apologized and said she’d send us Brad but none arrived....and no further effort made.
The food was excellent! All the appetizers were awesome!
Stone's Throw has become one of my favorite SF restaurants. It was always good and I feel as it's getting better each time I eat there. From start to finish, from the crudo and ceviche to the now classic potato puffs and the tagliatelle each dish was consistently fantastic and delicious. And the service was equally as great. They obviously take great care to everyone comfortable.
Excellent food, excellent service, special treatment for special occasions. Their milk and cookies dessert was really creative and delicious.
Still the best or second best restaurant in SF. You can never ever go wrong with dinner here. Always get the squid ink pasta and potato/egg thing.
Tables are too close each other. I believe is because , the lease is expensive so, every square inches are mean to be used!
Wonderful, as always.
This is my favorite "neighborhood" restaurant in San Francisco. Great atmosphere inside and out of the restaurant. Watch the Trolley go by on a nice quiet tree lined street in Russian hill. Easy walk to other places. Great beer and wine selection. Note: no liquor license. Food is great if you just want small bites (they will split entrees as well) or if you want something more substantial (win/win). 20 tables max. Bar is my favorite.
Loved it 3 years ago, still wonderful now. The staff are really wonderful -- every single one was warm, genuine, caring, funny. The food was delicious too.
Great staff with strong recommendations for both food and wine. Friendly and vibrant atmosphere.
Great place in Russian Hill! Warm and stylish decore, fantastic dishes (except for the Scallops which were disappointing), great cocktails, excellent service and value for money is awesome. Will definitely come back!
Food was average... I got the scallops with cauliflower. The cauli was almost completely raw/ kinda cold. But I will say all the people working there were amazing and so nice!
We have only been here for Sunday brunch. They feature a tight menu with something to please most. A fairly comprehensive wine and beer selection and some creative low alcohol cocktails.
Everything was great!
This is one of our favorites- great food, knowledgeable staff and excellent service!
Fantastic food loved all of it!
Really enjoy Stones Throw; super friendly service and great neighborhood spot; food very nice, although many dishes needed a touch more salt/acidity; burger is great! Our 3rd or 4th time here! Great dessert too! Incredible value for quality
This was our first time at Stones Throw. We had a wonderful experience. Service was excellent. The ambience is charming. The food was delicious. The portions are on the small side. We will order a couple more plates next time. It's also worth noting that it's about half a mile away from North Beach. You can go for a nice stroll, if you don't mind a couple hills, and be in North Beach in 20 minutes and catch a show at Cobb's or what have you. This is a great spot.
All four of us agreed the food was close to excellent and the value was very high. After leaving we all said we would return. For me, not necessarily for the others, the noise level was very high and I had a hard time hearing. my tablemates. Just take that into consideration if you have a loss of hearing.
Came here for my wife’s birthday & everything was wonderful. Tyler, who runs the bar & manages the wine list was great! All the dishes are fantastic with the highlights being the foie gras, squid ink pasta, pork trio & burger.
Second time here. Wonderful restaurant. Starting with drinks - great cocktails and great beer list. Menu is short, but nice variety. I had Puffed Potato and Eggs - a must-have if you go - and the Trio of Berkshire pork.
This is also one place you don't want to skip dessert. Very creative selections and they invite suggestions for future dessert options. We had the PB and Jelly donuts - very shareable and tasty.
Service was excellent, loved our server. They worked very hard for us.
Coworkers out of town - this is the perfect place to show off San Francisco’s hospitality. From a welcome champagne to attentive and helpful servers, we felt super special. Save room for dessert!!!! Love the new rhubarb cheesecake
Good place and service! The food amazing!!!
