History of this place is what drew us in, ambiance was great, there is 3 fireplaces. Food is a bit pricey. Service was great. Extensive beer list is a big +

Despite making reservations, we were seated in the bar. Our server was not friendly and made us feel rushed. She never took the time to introduce herself to us. Additionally, she did not even know the wines on the wine menu as I had to explain to her after she took my wine order that the wine I ordered was indeed on the wine list. I’m not expecting the server to fly to Chile and back just to get me a glass of Malbec.

Some people are wired to work with people and some people are wired to count ceiling tiles. Our server was in the latter group.

In the past we’ve received much better service upstairs. However, the bartender was very polite and responsive.

Not a great experience, and realized why it's been awhile since have visited. The waitress was probabky one of the worst have had in some time for her lack of desire and customer service. Will be sometime, if ever head back.

Cool ambiance...good food. Right near the train and you can hear that for sure, but adds to the charm. Service could have been a little better on the restaurant side...service st the bar was great.

I am a vegetarian and had the roasted vegetable sandwich along with an un-oaked Chardonnay. My usual. And always very good. My husband had the salmon sandwich which is his standard dish too. We were there for a casual evening dinner and it is one of our regular restaurants.

Waitress was very helpful. Salmon was over seasoned and the steak Diane was ordered medium rare came out medium but we had to be someplace so we left it. Might be better for sandwiches and appetizers.

Good food at reasonable prices but drinks are too expensive. Carefully poured glass of Pinot Noir was $15 and bottle of Bud Light was $4.50. Great atmosphere.

Went for brunch. Very nice brunch menu. Service was excellent. My only disappointment was that they changed the recipe for their corn beef hash. Used to be my favorite. Plenty of other good choices though and a nice menu of special brunch cocktails.

Three of us had dinner there on 9/30. We all thought the food was superb! My husband is still talking about the lamb Shepard's Pie! Best mussels ever!! A group of us are coming for Sunday brunch on 10/15 to celebrate a friends retirement and I have already decided that is where I want to go for my birthday on 10/21. Can't wait!

Our food was very good and the waitress was nice and attentive. A noisy table - with a loud laugher nearby was distracting - not the restaurant's fault. Had drinks at the nice bar after dinner and there was a one-man singer/musician whose sound we liked. Bigger place than we expected, lots of parking though.

We have been living in Ashland for 15+ years and have always wanted to try Stones based on what we have heard from friends and read in reviews. We finally decided to go and we are now really disappointed... that we didn't go there sooner.

Stones is a historic place in downtown Ashland and is claimed to be haunted. Inside is reminiscent of the time it was originally built. The food is VERY good, with plenty of meat, vegetarian, and gluten free options. The wait staff is polite, attentive, and willing to recommend dishes or drinks when asked. They have a very good drink selection, and prices are all around are reasonable.

We'll definitely be going back.

Not our best ever experience at Stones.Upon arrival we were told there was no patio table available. Not a huge disappointment though being outside would have really been nice since it was upper 70's. Seated at a nice inside table with full view of the patio. There were 3-5 tables empty ALL night long. Not sure why we were relegated to inside????

Service was slow thought server didn't seem to be over committed. Request for a straw took 15 minutes. Request for bread was never satisfied. Getting the bill was problematic. Paying was excruciating. I finally asked another server to take it for us indicating our server had apparently died.

We'll go again but be a bit more careful with where we accept seating.

Conversation is good except when the train goes by. That adds to the fun and ambience. We sat on the patio which was lovely except for all the bees. Isn't there a way to lure them somewhere else?
I do wish I'd tried the Irish breakfast rather than the American. Same price while the Irish offers more tastes.

Our visit was a real disappointment. We'd been to Stone's a couple of years ago and had a excellent experience and wanted to try it again. Service was slow. We waited over five minutes at the table before our server came by. Our drinks took quite a while. Bread came with the meal, not with the appetizers. We asked twice for water. Only when our food was delivered by a second server and we asked again, did we get water. A glass of wine ordered with dinner came almost at the end of the meal.

On doctor's orders I'm gluten-free, by choice I don't eat meat, and I have other medical dietary restrictions. Most restaurants we visit are very accommodating. The gluten-free options here contained meat; when I asked about modifying a fish dish to meet my needs, our server suggested the shepherd's pie. (Isn't lamb meat?) After some negotiation, she agreed that I could order the swordfish special with the sauce on the side. What arrived was a thin piece of perhaps previously-frozen swordfish that I had requested "not over-done" since the server told me they could not cook white fish medium-rare. It was dry, and charred on the outside. The accompanying "risotto" lacked creaminess and cohesion. It was like minute rice with oil and some chopped vegetable. The summer squash was fine, though bland. All of this came swimming in a puddle of green oil that seeped into everything on the plate. For this we were charged $29. I would have sent it back but it was my husband's birthday and he didn't want to pursue the issue and, frankly, I thought it would be too much of a hassle dealing with our server. She just didn't seem willing to acknowledge that our needs mattered.

We eat out frequently in the area and when we travel. This is the first truly unfortunate dining experience we have had.

Terrific food and terrific service. I have several challenging food allergies (onions and garlic) and the server didn't even blink an eye at my requests. I had the seared sea scollops and they were amazing, along with a side order of a vegetable. Both my friends had sandwiches (lobster roll and roasted veggie with cheese) and were very pleased. The food was incredibly fresh and the combinations of flavors very interesting. Well done!

Our family always enjoys dining at Stone's Public House. The restaurant offers a wide variety of choices and the ingredients are always very fresh. We also receive great service when we are there. They have a patio that is nice to sit on during warmer weather. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

I was surprised to see how dirty the floor was inside the restaurant. The heated "baseboard" along the wall/floor, was not attached properly and all kinds of trash could be seen.
The music was too loud and not conducive to dining.

Been going here for over 30 years. Obviously has had different owners and menus over the years, but I've always enjoyed the ambiance. Old haunted house , huge fireplace for the winter and outdoor patio for summer. Great burgers, we had delicious mussels this past time. Menu doesn't change much over the years, but always good. My one big grip for the past 10 or so years is the wine pours..........BAD ! I always feel like "ugh" another small glass of wine for $10. If you go have the beer!
