Stone's Public House
This is our new go-to place for Mother’s Day brunch, or brunch on any other day ! It was on the quieter side which we liked, they had a low key guitar player which was nice, food very reasonably priced, server was friendly and attentive, food was plentiful and yummy-I have nothing bad to say !
We both had burgers. Best burger around, by far!!!!
Very good service and the food was good the cheese curds on the poutine were cold but it was ok. The burger was fantastic and they made it gluten free. The only reason they received four stars was because the bathroom smelled so horrible. It was like there was a backup in the septic.
We were placed too close to entrance. Everyone waiting for tables were noisy just over half wall next to us making it hard to hear each other.
Wait staff were friendly and attentive. Food was unimpressive and overpriced. Very noisy but it was a Fri night so to be expected.
Awesome food at a good value
Everything was great. Server was nice but super slow.
We had a family group of 7, seated in the corner. Best place for us as family tends to get a bit loud so we weren’t bothering anyone. 7 different meals and 7 5 stars. Even though the wait is longer, it is definitely worth it. Each meal is cooked from scratch meal. Well worth the wait.
My wife and I had the Sirloin and it was delicious. My mother had the Fish and Chips, and loved it.
The waitress was great.
We had a fine dinner with good service. Menu does not change much, and the staples have been on it for years it seems, but they are good as I've had almost everything at least once. The ambiance is kind of average these days and typically has a very 'crowded' feel - rather than a old 'public house' as it used to. That said, if you want a good meal - the quality is almost always good.
We had not been to John Stones in years but with the exception of it being extremely noisy (we could not hear each other across the table) we found the food good and will return on what we hope will be a quieter night.
It was just too noisy! Ladies screaming at bar was ridiculous.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
Server was very attentive but not overly so. I had the seafood stew, which was yummy. One other person at my table had fish and chips, and the 3rd person had the cod in a cream sauce. The cocktails, beer and wine were also very good. I was worried about Stones awhile back. The new manager is turning it back around. Can’t wait to go back!
I’ve never had a bad meal there - I highly recommend the braised Brussels sprouts, lamb, pulled pork sandwich, and the beet salad. The staff is friendly and attentive. I love the fireplaces in the main dining room, which are always lit in winter. They can accommodate groups of 6-8.
Great local friendly place. Good servce and food, plenty of choices for beer. Never disappointed from dining there.
Evening started but one of the most pleasant and attentive servers. She was very helpful and had some good suggestions. Appetizers and entrées were fabulous and a very good value.
The food was okay when it finally arrived. The service was poor. Our server was not pleasant and mostly unavailable. Some of our party did not receive their food and had to wait. It was loud and dirty. I will not be going back.
It was really nice as usually. Same atmosphere we keep coming back for. But this time we could tell the kitchen was definitely rushed and scarifying quality. Both our steaks were under done. Curry wasn’t as flavorful. Mashed potatoes were bland and the fingerling potatoes were over cooked. Hopefully next time it’ll be much better.
The beer selection was amazing, the food wasn't the best for the price having to pay.
Service was great and food came out quickly.
I tried the Fish n Chips which was a big disappointment, thought it be better with all the rave reviews it received in Yelp. I have had fish n chips locally that was so much better at half the cost.
If I were to come back it would be for the great beer selections.
I live in Ashland and have been to Stone's about a dozen times. Nothing there ever impressed me, food is OK, service is mediocre, and they can't make a good drink. (don't ever ask for a Manhattan, they don't know how to make one) I do try to support local businesses, so I kept going back. Not any more. After being seated for 10 minutes, I had to stop the server as she went by for the 4th time, to ask for a drink. Pint of Guinness did arrive quickly, the Cosmo came back looking and tasting like Vodka with a splash of cranberry juice. After another 10 minutes with no service, I stopped the server again and asked for some bread and water. The bread was cold and mushy, like it was just defrosted, but not completely. Ordered fish and chips and a hamburger, medium rare. The fish was good, but the fries are always skinny little end pieces that are over done. The tartar sauce looked like it had been in the little cup for at least a week with a dark tinge around the edges. The cup of ketchup/horseradish was just as old, dried out and looking like a dried up lake bed. The hamburger came out rare, and only the outside edges were edible. ( we do like our meat pink, but this was rare!) It is usually difficult to get a table on a Friday night, but reservations for 7PM were easy to find, and by 8PM the dining room was empty. I will look to see if management or chef change and maybe give it another chance.
We came here to celebrate a 50th birthday with a group of 10. They were so accommodating. Great service, awesome drinks. Nice craft beers on tap and the bar area with the fireplace is so cozy and welcoming. BlackBerry Margarita was to die for. Everyone enjoyed their food, from fish and chips to fish tacos to Guinness Stew. We plan to come back.
As usual. great food, service, management and atmosphere.
Very good food , always decent service, and in a setting that is comfortable and historic. It remains one of my go-to places to get a good, reasonably priced meal.
Great Easy Sunday vibe!
Went for brunch with three others since I had been for dinner previously (dinner had been good) - brunch food was mediocre (hash browns not cooked) and server was odd. Very loud when we cam in at 12:30 since there was a large party in the main dining room. Fire was lit which gave it a nice ambiance, but was not kept going so became cold about halfway through the meal. Based on this experience would not go back.
Always good. Somewhat crowded. I don't like the upstairs dining area.
Always my favorite restaurant and had a delicious corn beef and cabbage meal
All the staff was really friendly and the food was great! Will definitely be going back!
Great place for casual “bite” to eat !
The Guinness stew for StPaddys Day was excellent !
Absolutely our favorite place to eat when we are up for the drive from Westboro. Always great food, in particular, the lamb Shepherds Pie, the Caesar Salad, the mussels, the fries with a curry dipping sauce, the burgers, the scallop appetizer....need I go on?!
Great casual spot. Tasty food, very nice people. All great!
We love Stones. Fish and chips is a fave and my husband enjoys the blue cheese burger. Service was excellent. See you again soon. Nice choice of draught beer too!
My husband and I live in Ashland and have been going to Stone's since we moved here twenty years ago. We are both vegetarian and are pleased they offer a vegetarian entre and several vegetarian side dishes. The food is fabulous, the ambience is lively and fun, and the service is excellent. I highly recommend Stone's Public House, and definitely feel it is worth making the trip to Ashland!
My meal was fine. Two of my friends had stale bread for the sandwiches. Same issue I had the last time I got a sandwich therefore have stopped ordering that menu item.
Service was outstanding. Excellent alcohol / beer choices. Had the burger and the sirloin. Started with bread which was very good. Burger and steak were both well cooked and tasty
Only two negatives. Burger came with fries which were mediocre, soggy and cold. Steak came with green beans, which were perfect, and risotto which was mushy and not warm. Pretty inedible actually. Other negative was even with reservations we got sat near front door which meant it was chilly inside as the don’t have any sort of cover for front door.
Anyway even with some misses the service and main components of the dishes made up for it and we will be back
Great brunch, nice singer/guitarist
Nicely varied menu, cozy take hear the fireplace on a
Food and service was wonderful. Our waitress, Claudiana, was attentive and great. Will be back soon.
I was surprisingly pleased by Stone's Public House. The mustard sauce for the corned beef and cabbage egg rolls is really good. Half roasted chicken was decent as was the ratatouille. The mushroom risotto was bland and slightly undercooked. Sirloin was cooked well and the highlight of both of our meals. House-made whipped cream for the irish coffee. Desserts are not so great. Service was very good. Reservations are required for a Saturday night. Place is busy busy busy.
