Stone's Cove KitBar Ratings and Reviews
This is truly unique. Great variety in seating with design emphasis on the race track bar. Interesting but limited menu, cooked by your servers. Almost every seat is the chef's table. It is a bar that says we can provide good food also. Not a family destination. Great for adults.
I started out with a side Caesar salad. The bacon on the top was a pleasant surprise. For my entree I had the fish tacos the fish was tender white fish cooked perfectly. The tacos were very flavorful. They had a limited selection of draft beer. It seems that two of the kegs had just run out.
We always enjoy stone's cove. our favorite dish is the margarita crab lettuce wraps. They are tasty and everyone enjoys constructing their wrap with the added accompaniments. The tuna sashimi is also a dish we order almost every time. The service is attentive and friendly. The side seating offers dinners the opportunity to sit facing their party, so it is easier to talk, while still being able to enjoy watching the action in the kitchen.
My wife and I went to our local Stove Cove restaurant for our 30th anniversary celebration together. It was recommended to me by a friend at work and I made a reservation online that allowed for a selection under "occassion" in which I selected "anniversary". Long story short, we loved the open concept, the food, and the drinks but the seating could have been improved upon. On a slow Monday night in which less than half of the restaurant was filled, we were seated very near the largest, loudest group of celebrating patrons in the building. It would have been nice if indicating an anniversary online had flagged the hostess to seat us on the other side where there was much more privacy and ability to hold a conservation. Of coarse I should have asked for us to be relocated but we persevered until the group left and things greatly improved.
Service is pretty good; but you have to get used to multiple staff handing your visit.
As a bar, this place is WAY too loud and the few TVs they have in here; are positioned behind the bar. This is a bit nuts, as it’s almost impossible to watch a game.
Food is a hit or miss; as some items are cooked fresh and others are warmed up in the micro/oven. On some of the items, especially the flatbreads; they try to get too fancy and overload with unnecessary items.
Overall though, a good place for a cocktail and light snack. Stay away from the wings: they tell u it’s their specialty, but they are plain awful.
Stone's Cove KitBar is good. So if you are in Herndon or the vicinity, it's worth a visit--good food and beer, and decent service. It's not worth a trip, and its business model leads to limitations in food variety and quality along with service consistency. We visited with a friend and ordered two appetizers, the crab lettuce wraps and meat loaf "cupcakes." Both were good, and the meat loaf would have been very good had the mashed potato bases for the meat loaf had more consistency and were served hot rather than lukewarm. Both my wife and I had the Cajun Prime RIb, which really was a thick ribeye steak sliced from the rib and grilled to heat it up. And therein lies the challenge of very good vice good--much of the food preparation is re-heating on the grill or in the fire oven. So I give this one a "qualified" thumb-up (not two thumbs).
The food and service was fantastic. After we explained that this was our first time at Open Table, the waiter explained the foods, favorites, sharing options, etc. He had the perfect balance of information but not information overload. The menu was a perfect size providing a variety of options but not overwhelming. The only criticism I would have is that because all the seating is at the bar (or bar like seating), it was a bit too loud for regular conversations at the table.
I have been to Stone's Cove on a number of occasions and this weekend took my husband and family from out of town for something different. We all had a really great time, enjoying the great happy hour food specials (definitely try the crab dip) and great drinks. Our server Terrell was amazing, very personable and prepared great food. Everyone enjoyed the fun atmosphere and the food is wonderful, not your typical bar food, lots of choices, and very tasty. The flatbreads are always a hit and the BBQ sliders were really good. We all gave it 2 thumbs up and highly recommend for a fun time.
Food was acceptable. The shrimp and grits were yummy. The service was pretty poor. Salad served with main dish...hate that. Inattentive server with refills. Took about 25 minutes to get the bill and another 20 to get it back. The server mixed up our bills and charged the wrong meals on the wrong card. Decided it would probably take another 30 or so to get corrected, so we chalked it up.
Arrived with my family and boyfriend to grab a bite to eat for dinner. Since some of the nicer dining options in Herndon can be a little hard to find, we were pretty excited to come across this spot on OpenTable. While the menu is a little limited, everything seemed absolutely delicious. Myself, my mother, and my boyfriend ordered drinks, which were made perfectly (although my sangria was a little too sweet). We ordered the three dip appetizer, which is perfect for a group of people since you have multiple selections to choose from. My sister is very sensitive to spicy food, and the waiter was really great at recommending entrees for her that wouldn't cause any issues. She ordered the steak, which she loved. My dad ordered the fish of the day, which was cooked perfectly, and the portion size was decent for the price. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which was just as creamy and delicious as I was hoping.
The ambiance of the place is interesting considering the open kitchen concept. It can get a little loud, which we didn't really mind because seeing all of the food get made up close and personal is pretty cool. Overall, we'd definitely come back again in the near future.
Great experience as always… Service was excellent, food was excellent, Ambiance was good. We had a large group, which they accommodated well, really only disappointment was not sitting at the bar, which is the best experience at the KitBar, but given the size of our group, will look forward to sitting at the bar next time.
Fish Tacos and shrimp and grits were awesome ! Hidden gem in a strip mall..who knew the food was that good. Had I not read the reviews on Open Table, I would have never given it a chance either...definitely give this place a try..I will be back !
So much fun. Great for a big group to Sit at the kitchen bar and share Tapas. The food was amazing but the service was even better. Sanjay an Al made us feel like we were in their kitchen. I don't know why this place isn't packed, but it was easy to get a reservation. We will be back. A lot.
