Stoned Crab Ratings and Reviews
We were here on the Saturday after Valentine's Day, to avoid the crowds. It was snowing heavily that evening, so it was unusually quiet. Our waitress was great - very attentive, but not annoyingly so. The food was very good, but not great. My husband had the ahi (rare) and enjoyed it and I had the veal and lobster piccata. There were only 3 bites of lobster and it was quite overcooked, otherwise the dish was fine. Nothing to write home about, but an enjoyable experience. We sat downstairs for the first time and really preferred it to the hustle and bustle and noise of the upstairs dining room.
My husband and I went here a few years ago and loved it! When we returned recently we were slightly disappointed. The food was just ok and the table we sat at had food all over the wall. It definitely was not like our first experience and for the price I don't think we will return.
One of the worst meals I've had since moving to Pennsylvania 5 years ago. Their clams with chorizo was a total disconnect. You would expect sliced chorizo, not a tomato sauce with crumbled sausage. Their famous crab soup was like eating baby food. Every table around us returned their entrees. Shrimp, scallops, lobster all over cooked. Risotto was pasty. Unless a new better chef surfaces, please skip this lousy restaurant!!!
Melissa, our server, was outstanding!!
The menu changed slightly since we were last here. The host was very pleasant and complimentary. Our business seemed to be appreciated.
I ordered a glass of rose’ wine . There were two by the glass. I strongly recommend asking for a taste first - I have never done this; however, the glass I ordered was $8 plus. I should have ordered the $10 plus offering. I am not very selective about wine (if not ordering a bottle). I had trouble finishing it.
The salad and soup were delicious. And our entrees were good.
There was not a lot of positive to say. My husband’s veal dish was extremely dry. I ordered the stoned crab filet rare and got a plain filet medium. The replacement had about a tablespoon of crab. We were comped my wine and no charge for the tablespoon of crab, but the experience will not bring us back.
Arrived early for our 7:00 reservations, so my wife and I enjoyed a drink at the bar, deciding we would definitely come to Happy Hour. When our booth was ready we were escorted there by a very pleasant hostess. We ordered an appetizer (mussels) which were very good. We enjoyed each other's company while having another drink while deciding on our main course. So many good choices, it was difficult. The sandwiches we elected to have were delicious. Portions of everything we ate was ample, not leaving room for dessert. The Stoned Crab is a place to return for an enjoyable night out.
Granted it was New Year's Eve but the noise level was so high it made my dining experience very unenjoyable. I had forgotten that we had a similar experience two year's prior or I never would have dined there. My lobster tail was very dry, the carrots were hard and you couldn't talk to someone nearby without shouting. Only the dessert was good. I will not eat there again.
NYE dinner. No indication on website or confirmation that it was a limited menu. Place was not incredibly full or busy...Took 20 minutes to get first drink. Aoli with calamari was mayo with lemon, yuck. Calamari breading wasn’t my favorite. Crab soup was good. Waitress brought food and never checked on us again. Really...if the people seated in your restaurant CHOSE this over many others to celebrate the New Year I expect much better service. Will not be back to celebrate a special occasion.
Seated near the bar and heard constant slamming of refrigerator door! Horrible...does management not notice this? Also overheard a little tiff among staff behind Bar. Classy.
Food was good. The filet and crab was the choice of 4 at our table. Everything was done to our orders. Could of had a little more crab on the filet. King Crab appetizer was ok, but a little pricy for a 1/2 pound. Will go back. Hope they pick up the Delmonico and lump crab appetizer on the menu again, was our favorite.
I got engaged here last February and decided to come back again with my family. And I must say, this place never disappoints. Most of my family members have never been here before and they could not stop raving about it after we left. Everything from the food, to the service to the atomosphere was absolutely perfect.
It was easy to make and change a reservation. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Service was extremely slow due to many tables and only 2 waitresses. Our entire dining time for 2 people was 2 hours and that was due to the extreme slow service. It took 15 minutes just to get our drinks. The appetizers came out 45 minutes later, the salads were fairly quick after we completed the apps, and then dinner took another 45 minutes. The portions are way too small for the price. The filet mignon was done perfectly and was excellent quality meat.
The salad was a bunch of greens with 2 cherry tomatoes, 2 small pcs of cucumber and croutons. Apparently there was no choice of dressing. The blackened chicken was so hot I left it on the plate. The linguine (spaghetti) was supposed to have a tomatoe cream sauce and all I could taste was a heavy cheese sauce (horrible). My husband's tuna was equally as hot and was served with undercooked carrots. I doubt that we will return.
We're used to better food at this restaurant, but on this visit the food was of very low quality, not as indicated on the menu, and poorly prepared. Service was good, as usual, but didn't makeup for the lack of quality food.
Overall, it was good. We will be back. The food took quite a while to come out, but everything was very good, so it was worth it. It seemed they were short staffed, but everyone jumped in to help. My plate came out less than luke warm and I asked to have it heated up. Within 5 minutes, I had a FRESH entree. Not heated, but fresh! Great recovery.
