We had a special occasion to celebrate. Our server was very good but intrusive at times. The food was very good except for one pasta dish that was overly salted and had too much green onion on it. It was replaced upon our request with another pasta dish that was much better. The main course (steak) was very good but even though it too had just a bit too much salt on it. Yes, I will go back. And, yes, I will request that the cooks "go light" on the salt.
Went there with another couple to celebrate New Years Eve. Stoneburner’s food and service were outstanding. Have been there numerous times and always great food and service. Only disappointment was that I twice requested to be seated in a quiet location for our group of 4 (2 of us have hearing challenges). Very noisy and could not hear half of conversations.
Excellent experience. This was my 2nd time at Stoneburner and will not be my last. We had a large group of 8 and shared everything family style at the suggestion of our great server, Don. His suggestions were all fantastic! Everything from Charcuterie to dessert and coffee was delightful.
My husband and I went for the first time on Saturday evening and enjoyed it very much. The server was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. We had the brick pressed chicken and the meatballs. They had a nice wine selection, and the Prospect Punch was delightful. No room for dessert. We'll definitely be back.
A friend who also enjoys Stoneburner asked me if I’d ever been there for brunch. I said I hadn’t. He went on and on about eggs in purgatory. The next week I made a reservation and had my birthday brunch there. Since then I’ve been back four times and brought friends each time. The meals are incredible even down to how they prepare the toast. The service is beyond incredible. Lucy and her friends always ensure we have a Heartfelt, delicious, warm, and welcome visit. Do yourself a favor and eat and experience at Stoneburner.
I have dined at this restaurant many times since it opened in 2013. It remains one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle with its diverse menu that pleases everyone.
Along with many delicious side dishes and appetizers, we ordered the special steak -- a so-called 24 oz NY strip grilled and sliced. We were splitting amongst 4 people and pairing this with several grilled or broiled vegetable side dishes. We were notified that because if its size, the steak would take a long time to cook, so the whole meal was timed around the steak. We ordered it medium rare. It arrived and was overcooked, some of it to medium well. One end slice which was thicker did appear medium rare. We all agreed the steak was over cooked, including the server, so it was returned. She later came back to say that when the steak was taken back to the kitchen "in better light" it was as ordered, med rare. (sorry, I have cooked a lot of steaks, some very thick, many of them NY strips and rib eyes, and you can tell by texture in addition to color. This was over cooked 2 steps.). We were asked if we wanted to re-fire the veggie dishes and we said no, that they would be fine. The second steak came and it was better, but still not genuinely medium rare. We didn't complain because it was getting late and we were hungry. Also, I would argue about it being a full 24 oz (before cooking). It was bone-in, but appeared much smaller than 24 oz.
Anyway, it was a great evening, and everything was good including service. The sommelier was great at recommending various wines. The side dishes and apps were all excellent.
They handled the steak issue well, comping us a couple dessert wines each to pair with the 2 desserts that we shared.
A side-bar is that this restaurant is "related to" Bastille Cafe, also in Ballard. I stopped going to Bastille because they always overcook meat dishes -- from burgers, to steaks, you name it. So maybe they were utilizing the Bastille chef this night at Stoneburner.
We have been for brunch and it was amazing. Tried dinner and were so surprised that it wasn’t very good. Not sure if the regular chef was gone or not. Everything was way too salty. The meatballs had too much lemon zest in them. The two pasta dishes were both too al dente. The service was great though. Probably go back for brunch, not for dinner.
The wine we chose at first was not great. Our server got the wine Steward to come to our table. He brought 4 bottles of what he thought we would like and went through describing each.
Needless to say the wine we chose was delicious. We had two bottle! Great service
Spent a wonderful evening here for our last night in Seattle, got to really feel like we scratched more than the surface of the food scene. Was nice, slightly pricey, but great pizza and matching cocktails. Would be fantastic for a larger group, as it was it served its purpose to set the night up for success. The service was great with authentic recommendations. Dessert menu could serve to be improved, only had three options that were not gluten free. Nice street to bar hop on, even if the location was pretty far outside of the downtown core.
The gnocchi was probably the best dish, the lamb bacon was amazing.
We happened upon Stoneburner for a Saturday night dinner. It has a cozy atmosphere with a varied menu. We opted for several vegetable sides and the grilled octopus small plate. Everything was well prepared, delicious and well plated. We will definitely return to try some of their mains when we are hungrier.
Great service and very knowledgeable wait staff. I did not care for the Bloody Mary (handmade) at all- thick tomato juice, blah, and loaded with salt around the rim (pretty but WAY too much salt!) it was hard to get around salt to the drink. Expensive and hand made or not, would not order again.
I had the carbonara- pasta was cooked to perfection and poached egg was perfect- for me dish was too rich and I ordered the wrong item.
Tried this restaurant as part of Seattle Restaurant Week. The two of us shared one entre (white sauce pizza (10", the rim broiled to charcoal but the crust underneath very good and the seasoning very good) plus one $33 three-course-special dinner (brussels sprouts soup - unusual seasoning, quite good, very creamy and pureed beyond any recognition as brussels sprouts; meatballs with braised spinach - again unusual vinegary seasoning, and quite good; olive oil cake with ginger icecream and hucklebberry sauce - brilliant combination and fantastically good). No alcohol, $66 for the total bill including $10 tip - service was good. However, overall it was only barely good value for money for Restaurant Week. Would come back again for the dessert, however.
