Stone Creek - Zionsville Ratings and Reviews
After reading many positive reviews, I definitely wanted to try this place out. My parents were in town for the night so we decided to give it a shot. We sat upstairs where it was quiet and calm. We started with some drinks (Moscow Mule was fantastic, Cosmo was syrupy, Dirty Martini was good). Ordered the board appetizer which I have no complaints about. For meals we had the 1. scallops(broccoli was good, risotto was good, scallops were meh a little fishy), 2. filet was good, 3. and the medallions(medallions were a little overdone, the lobster risotto tasted exactly the same as the risotto that came with the scallops, there was tiny tiny pieces of lobster but there’s no point in that because you couldn’t taste a difference). Server was a young guy who was attentive and pleasant.
We had made reservations for 31st December night, 3 weeks in advance. We wanted to be back after my husband had catered the food from this restaurant for my milestone birthday party earlier in October. When we arrived we were told that there would still be a 5-10 min wait and that was fine with us. After 15 mins of waiting we were taken upstairs to sit with large groups which included a lot of children. Not how we wanted to spend dining on NYE. We spoke with a manager who then managed to get us a table on the main floor. While this was not ideal (too close to the kitchen and the main entrance with a cold draft coming in), the food was really good and we had a great server. I am hopeful that my next experience at this restaurant will be even better.
We LOVE the food at Stone Creek, every time we go we leave happy that we ate an absolutely delicious meal. Unfortunately, over the years what used to be one of our favorite date spots has become incredibly busy, frequently full of kids, and too loud for a good date. It’s still a good place for dinner, just not a quiet conversation. We were seated about 15 minutes after our reservation due to how packed it was.
We love Stone Creek. The food is always outstanding--one thing I love is that the side dishes are excellent (hot, fresh and creative)--that isn't always so at other restaurants. And we LOVE the garlic shrimp appetizer, crab cakes and the ribs! I would have given all fives except for the following: our server was super nice but didn't check back for quite awhile after we got our food and we also had to wait to get our bill. It was busy though being NYE. I gave a 4 for Ambiance because we sat in the bar, which I didn't mind at all except for the lighting was really bright. I kept waiting for them to lower the lights (since we were sat at 5:15) but they never did. The overhead lights were quite brash. I was hoping for something more intimate. I gave the food a 5 but would really love to see a piece of fish on the "You Pick Two". They used to have mahi mahi but took it off. Other than those few details, we will absolutely continue to be patrons and enjoy the good food and drink!
The atmosphere has changed since we were here last. The dividing curtain has been removed and the ambient lighting is much brighter. Both combine to create a much louder and less enjoyable dining experience...much more like a cafeteria now. Though my salmon was very hot and done well, the rice cakes served underneath were hard as rocks. Service has never been top notch, but has become increasingly less professional. This is terribly disappointing, because Stone Creek has traditionally been a “go to” restaurant for a mid week meal. We won’t be back for a long time...there are too many better options nearby.
Although the restaurant was busy with holiday customers, the service was outstanding. We were promptly escorted to our table and our server was friendly, courteous, and very efficient. No doubt it helped that our party of six had reservations; however, I believe we would have had a minimal wait even without them. This location is about thirty miles from home but well worth the drive.
As usual Stone creek was excellent. I had the ribeye steak - was perfectly cooked and delicious! My wife had the scallops - beautifully seared and great sauce. Service was great and although it is not inexpensive it is worth it to us for our special dinner occasions.
We went for our anniversary. We got a bottle of wine and ordered the "combo".
My wife got the steak and shrimp, I got the chicken and ribs. The ribs were really good, the chicken so so. I expect blackened to be cooked in butter on a cast iron pan at a super hot temp.
But most places like this just sprinkle some spices. The steak was good, the shrimp breading was a bit soggy. I liked the au grautin potatoes. The coleslaw was so so. We got the relativly
inexpensive pino grigio. Not so hot. The service was attentive without being annoying, a rare
and wonderful experience. If we lived nearby we would probably go often, but given the
30 min. drive we will keep exploring.
