Stone Creek - Plainfield Ratings and Reviews
Waited 1 hour for food. We got our meal comped which was nice but still not worth the hour wait. Our food was not great. Steaks and salmon were dry, scallops were gritty. We had to ask for sugar for iced tea more than once and ordered 2 glasses of wine we never received. This used to be one of our favorite places but has not been good the last few times. We won’t be back.
We have gone to Stone Creek for years and have generally had a good experience. Tonight, however, was not the case. We had reservations for 5 at 7pm. When we arrived at 7 we were told it would be “just a few minutes”. It was a very busy Friday night. Waiting a few minutes was understandable. When we hadn’t been seated at 730 we asked the hostess. We were told “a large table has over stayed their time and they were waiting on them to get up”. Again, busy Friday night so we tried to be understanding. We watched as 3 two tops were sat right next to each other at 8pm. Hmmm... we asked the hostess and she was not aware we were waiting on a table for 5; seemed to confuse us with a group waiting on a table for 10. We aren’t normally upset about waiting but this experience was unacceptable. The host staff was not capable of managing the crowd tonight. Very frustrating.
Today is Veterans Day and my husband is a Vietnam Vet. Many restaurants offer special deals, but Stone Creek was the best BY FAR! First, you can make reservations on a holiday/weekend night. Second, there was no “special menu,” as all entrees and even side dish upgrades were free for the veteran. And, although they were crazy busy, we got the exact booth I had requested. The food is good, the service is good, and even on this very busy night, all was very enjoyable!
We love Stone Creek. We had a great dinner until we hit the bar for a celebratory shot of Patron and were charged $14 per shot with no warning whatsoever! $14 for a shot of tequila is insane. I've never, ever, paid that much money for a basic drink. It would have been nice to get a fair "heads up" from the bartender that we were about to pay more for 2 shots of a basic drink than we paid for my meal alone! That's $32 with the tax. Insanity I tell ya!
Our overall experience was excellent, with the exception of the young lady at the front desk. She almost ruined our experience. We had a reservation for 9:30 PM, four people, standard table requested in the reservation - not bar seating, celebrating a birthday. Well, the place was NOT busy @ 9:30 PM on a Friday night. It took her 15 minutes to get her act together and seat us. Our server was awesome. The food was excellent. Out of caution, I had to pull the waiter to the side and mention the birthday - - had I not done that, it would have gone unnoticed. Two of us split the ribeye, one person had the smothered chicken and one had parmesan chicken (I think).
The table by the kitchen / waiter station should be eliminated...worse seat in the house. The service is good and food is usually good...Stone Creek is one of our “go to’s” on Friday or Saturday night but when you take the kids you definitely need a booth and we could t get one.
Very busy. Our waiter was not the best that we have had here. Service was mediocre. Waited too long for a second drink to arrive. Took quite awhile to get his attention for our check. My food was not up to their standards. Potatoes and asparagus tasted like they had been sitting on the plate awhile waiting for my steak. They weren't the warmest. Just not the best meal that we have had here and we have been here quite a bit.
Made reservations for my birthday. Person calling to confirm asked if it was a special occasion and I told her birthday.
We arrived to a less than friendly or attentive waiter. He really shouldn’t be in the field, he showed zero charisma or personality. He also never mentioned the special occasion...may not have gotten passed on or may not have cared.
The white chicken chili was as good as ever...lump crab cakes were just “ok”. I have had good experiences in the past, not sure if there has been some turnover with wait staff and chef...?
All in all, we had a very nice dining experience, but since you asked....
We have a handicapped family member in a wheelchair. The restaurant's air handling system is hard to dodge for someone who is sensitive to the cold.
The one table we found had a granite top and was a full 1" + higher than the others, a fact that we did not appreciate until the guest was seated at the table. We had to start all over again and use a cushion. This is demeaning and embarrassing to the handicapped person. There ought to be at least one or two adjustable tables. Alerting the restaurant ahead of time is on the family, however, we did alert ahead of time. Handicapped means many things to consider.
While I like most of the food at Stone Creek, I have had mushrooms twice now, and they are slimy and have an unpleasant taste. Now I know it wasn't a fluke the first time
