The evening we visited this restaurant it was not at all crowded. The service was very good but this place would not be for everyone. It is a little pricey and has a limited menu that my husband did not like. The portions are plentiful. We started with a glass of wine as they could not make our requested cocktails (a manhatten and a cosmo). Our server said they only had the cocktails listed on a menu. Rather odd. My husband had a steak and it was not quite as tender as he would have liked but he said it was very tasty. His meal was served with mashed potatoes and roasted mixed veggies (squash, beets, carrots, etc.) which were very good. I had the swordfish topped with two very large shrimp and two very large scallops. I requested the fish be cooked well done. It was a very thick piece and although I think it was cooked through it was not done enough for me. Also, my dinner came with jasmine rice and the roasted veggies. I did not ask what the fish was served with and I don't believe it was listed on the menu either because I would have never, never have ordered jasmine rice. I do not like it at all and did not eat it. We will try this restaurant again as it is a local, intimate and charming place and I think they are trying very, very hard to make a go of it.
Without a hidden gem highly recommend the Stomping Ground you will be glad you went.
Great place, we will be back. Love the decor and the modern hippy twist. The musician volume was perfect as we sat right next to him and were able to have great conversation even when he was playing.
I have been to this restaurant several times and have always had an excellent meal. On this recent visit, I found their swordfish with scallops and shrimp to be bland, but my husband's short ribs meal with delicious. Neither of us, who both have good appetites, could finish our meals, so we took them home and had them as leftovers the next night. I seasoned my fish at home and found it to be much more flavorful, so maybe it's just a matter of personal preference - or perhaps I should have used some salt and pepper on it at the restaurant. There was a guitarist playing, and that was a nice touch for an evening out......and the restaurant was very comfortable, temperature wise, even on this frigid night. I highly recommend this restaurant and their friendly owner/chef.
A wonderful meal with great service, food and music
We’ve been to Stomping Grounds for dinner and Sunday Brunch and enjoyed this local spot on Main Street. We all ordered the steak special. 2 medium-well And 1 medium. All 3 were medium. Not enough to send back but a bit under for 2 people. Also there was live music. The artist was talented and performed covers and original music. The only problem is that the place is so small the music makes it pretty much impossible to talk to people at your table. I think lowering the volume by 50% is needed or plan on not talking at your table. The appetizers we ordered were excellent and service was good. I’d say give this local place a try. A few small changes would make it a great local place to go.
a total gem. One of the best restaurants on Cape Cod. Run by a Mother and Son this place deserves to be packed every night!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meals in this lovely, cozy setting. The live music made the occasion even more delightful. My mother savored her mussels and crab cake and absolutely loved every bite. The hummus appetizer was delicious and portions were surprisingly generous, and we loved the warm rolls and butter. The Stomping Grounds Greens salad was exquisite -- a delectable mix of greens, roasted Brussels sprouts, grapes and chickpeas in a flavorful dressing. We enjoyed everything. Our only suggestion would be to expand on vegetarian/vegan options as more and more diners are seeking these choices. Veggie soups are always popular! We are from Vermont but regular travelers to Buzzards Bay and WILL be back !
A fabulous Sunday brunch for our first morning on the Cape. Great local offerings and plenty of variety for everyone. The owner's daughter and wife were our servers and made for a very hospitable atmosphere. Try the prime rib hash, it was amazing. Husband loved his eggs beny with lobster. And go for the splurge with the mimosa bucket. Wished they did brunch every day!
Very pleased for first time there. Food was delicious and generous portions.
A wonderful find across the canal from our Cape Cod house. Friendly staff and excellent food in a intimate area of house transmitted into small bar and restaurant.
Great food and great service. Live music and a good drink selection.
Just "happened" upon this place and what a pleasant surprise! Stomping Grounds Grille is so unique...the first floor of an old Victorian style home was renovated to create this somewhat unusual restaurant. It's a pretty small place with not a lot of tables but we did manage to get last minute reservations for 4. Food was delicious and service was tremendous. There was live entertainment provided by a very friendly and talented singer, who was "up" for requests. He played a lot of 60's and 70's music, which was right up our alley. We arrived a little early and our table wasn't ready but we were welcomed to sit in the foyer and were attended to there. Did I mention how good the service was?!? Truly excellent! Drink menu was interesting and my drink (Ramble on Rose) was a little stronger than what I am used to but nonetheless very good. My appetizer, "Spuds Mackenzie" (roasted potatoes with gorgonzola bacon walnut dip) was absolutely delicious!!! "Charlie's Chowder" (scallops, cod & lobster in a creamy broth) was also good....though it seemed more of a fish chowder as I really didn't taste the scallops or lobster. My main meal was "stomping greens" salad with lobster...it was a mix of organic greens, chickpeas, brussel sprouts, grapes, pine nuts, ....and it was scrumptious! I couldn't eat it all...brought home the leftovers and had a lobster sandwich for lunch the next day. The mix of salad greens was delightful and the lobster was not only delicious but plentiful! I will for sure return to this restaurant! So excited about finding this gem!
We brought 3 friends from CA with us this time. The seafood chowder is amazing. 2 people had the lobster roll that has to be one of the best ever. Another had the fish stew which she loved. I had the carpet bagger which was excellent and a chicken oscar that was great.
My very first time visiting this restaurant, and definitely not the last time. Service, ambience, presentation of the food, and taste of the dinners was excellent. Music played in the background and thoroughly enhanced the dining experience. Server, Leah Ann was commendable.
We took friends here for our 3rd time and it was great. She and I shared the mussels which were delicious. My husband had the chowder with lobster, scallops and fish. We all loved it. He had a pulled pork sandwich that he didn't let us taste so it was very good. I had the lobster roll which was totally delicious. Unfortunately my friend had the crab cake and it had too much salt and I thought it tasted too fishy. So she shared my lobster roll which was plenty for both of us. Her husband had the steak au poivre which melted in your mouth. We love this place and will be back.
Made reservation through OpenTable. Table was waiting for us, drinks good, food delicious and very different, service great. Wide range of fish dishes which was great. We all selected fish. We will be back.
This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem!! Went on a Thursday evening and it was not crowded at all. Cocktails were great, followed by excellent food. We enjoyed the stuffed quahog, swordfish Nantucket and the Carpetbagger (steak with lobster) - all were wonderful. Also enjoyed the bread pudding dessert. The service was also exceptional. Looking forward to our next visit!!
This place is very friendly and homey but you soon realize is also crunchy granola. Spirits are of the no name variety such as gluten free vodka made from honey - from, surprise, Vermont! Okay; just different.
Our waiter was enthusiastic but, I'll be kind, perhaps new to the job. He asked the four of us if we'd like bread. Sure! When he brought the basket, he announced that it had only one roll but more were being baked and he would return. Why not wait the few minutes until a full basket could be served? Weird.
Almost everything was served with lobster and shrimp which I cannot eat. I ordered the haddock sans shellfish and topped with bread crumbs. Waiter and chef were happy to accommodate.
The waiter served my friend's entree with a flourish announcing "Here are your Short Ribs"...except it was a plate of chicken wings. How do you mix that up? My fish arrived moist and tender but I needed my magnifying glasses to see the bread crumbs. All vegetables were mushy.
The biggest faux pas was when our waiter added his two cents worth to our private conversation. We were discussing politics and he let his extremely liberal opinion be known. Not acceptable no matter what our leanings are.
Reference to entertainment in prior review is a bit misleading. Our guy was loud, although we didn't quite -just almost- have to shout to carry on a conversation. It was more his off-key warbling that was distracting. But it was evident that he was playing to the locals at the bar who were enjoying his performance one of which chose to get up and sing. At least that's what I think she was doing.
All in all, it's a place for locals more than the general crowd and that does serve a purpose.
We went on a Saturday night and had, not only a wonderful meal, but the pleasure of hearing a pianist/guitarist/singer who was most entertaining. Well be back!
This was our first time eating here. We loved it. Our waitress Hildy was such a sweetheart and so knowledgeable. We had a delicious salad that was a special. My husband had a special with scallops, shrimp and cod with a newbury sauce. It was very good. I had the filet mignon topped with a lobster tail with bernaise sauce. The filet literally melted in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were smooth and the vegetables were al dente enough but not too much and yet weren't mushy. We will definitely will be back. The ambiance was cool with album covers on the walls and the ability to hear fun music.
Saturday night, longish wait despite reservation. Friendly staff made us comfortable at the bar and surprised us after a delicious dinner with desserts on the house! We'll be back
Great little spot, old house converted to a good restaurant. I'm not sure if there focus is on food or bar crowd, was hard to tell.
As always, the meal was delicious. Two people had the lamb special and the other two had a fish dish. The lamb was very tender and flavorful, the lobster and shrimp tarragon was superb, and the cod was great too. We split two desserts - the limoncello cake and the lava cake - both delicious. Service is always good here, and tonight was no different. We always look forward to going here, as the chef is fabulous and the service so attentive and personalized......Thanks again for another excellent dining experience.
This place is in an old home and has an understated elegance. The atmosphere is conversation friendly and the dress is casual. The crust on the filet I had was a bit salty and the lobster it was garnished with was chewy. My husband had the prime rib and he was in heaven! I would definitely go back but probably for lunch as the prices are steeper than I'd usually pay for this geographic area.
Awesome experience on Saturday evening! We were warmly greeted, seated at an ample size table, drinks and bread delivered promptly. Three ordered chowder, one a Caesar salad. It seemed like a bit of a wait but it was SO worth it. Chowder was full of lobster, scallops and fish. Broth was flavorful and not heavy. Short rib special, pistachio salmon, scallop and bacon casserole and sirloin were all enjoyed. We were four happy "supper clubbers"!
Quaint atmosphere, prompt friendly service, food was delicious!
Excellent meals. Everything cooked to order. Seafood was exceptional
We have wanted to try this restaurant for a while, so we figured we would have brunch on Sunday. There were 9 of us and the restaurant was pretty full. Maybe about 25 people. The atmosphere is great, very homey. The waitresses were nice and the food was delicious. The problem was, we waited almost an hour after ordering to receive our food. We ordered basic breakfast and lunch items. We will try it again for dinner and see how it goes.
We went with a group of four of us and we all loved our meals! The atmosphere was very warm and inviting. There were several couples who seem to be enjoying a romantic dinner. The guitar player was excellent and he was not too loud to still carry on a conversation. The waitress was excellent and very friendly! I would highly recommend a trip here!
New favorite restaurant. Food was outstanding and ambiance was nice
Out of five stars I give it a 10! The food, the service and the ambiance were outstanding. Since there were several things on the menu we want to try, we'll definitely go back.
Intimate warm setting. Interesting menu. Food was deliciously fresh and generous. Service impeccable!
This is my 3rd visit. The service was wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious! My husband had the swordfish Nantucket for the 3rd time!!! He said he would never order anything else. I had the special littlenecks over pasta. It my sound blah but the broth was amazing and just delicious. Loved the place will definitely go back!
This is a neighborhood gem for us. Have driven by numerous times and had heard from friends it was very good. We finally made a decision to make a reservation and give it a try. The food was excellent, great service and cozy atmosphere. We will definitely Italy go back.
My wife and I came here on New Year's Eve and couldn't believe the value that we received! My wife ordered the Carpetbagger - a massive filet mignon topped with 3 huge pieces of lobster for only $36. If this was served in Boston, it would easily be $75+. The vibe was laid back and intimate and made you feel like you were having dinner at a friend's house. Which was especially true since the restaurant is a converted old victorian home. We also very much enjoyed the live music, which consisted of a singer who alternated between piano and guitar. The music was not overly loud and allowed my wife and I to speak at a normal level even though we were sitting next to the performer.
All in all, a great meal and a very interesting restaurant that I would be happy to go back to next time we are in the area.
Excellent service and good. Will surely return!
The food was great! The staff was great. Specialty drinks, seafood chowder, scallop Quahog, PRIME RIB was excellent, specialty mixed veggies, mashed, even the coffee was great. I will definitely go back.
Hidden gem in plain sight. Visited off an Open Table list and was treated well by Charlie. Excellent menu and preparation. Music is part of the scene and is quite nice. Been back again and enjoyed lunch.
The food was fantastic and our server Charlie was very friendly and helpful with various items on the menu. Everything we had was prepared to perfection and the ingredients were very fresh and not overly spiced.
