We can't wait to return! Stoddard's is our favorite go-to for when we see shows at the Opera House or the Paramount!
Great place, and one of my favorites in Boston, it just gets better with time. Always a pleasure to be there! Energetic, stylish, and great food and service.
Great craft beers!!
Even though we made a reservation, we had to wait 30 min to be seated. Normally wouldn’t be a big deal but we were heading to a show so had to speed eat in order to get out of there on time. The server was apologetic and gave us our drinks on the house which was appreciated. Got a variety of apps, all delicious. Temple smash cocktail recommended.
Great place for a quick, casual & tasty bite before a concert at one of several nearby venues. Fast attentive service. Rock solid food.
First time I've been to Stoddard's and I can't wait to go back. The food was incredible, the craft beer selection was very good, and the overall atmosphere was awesome. Loved it. My friends got the burgers, they looked delicious. They also got a poutine that I shared a little of that was incredible, one of the best I've ever had. I had the fish and chips which was really good, but a bit smaller than expected for portion size. I also got the oven roasted cauliflower for an app and it was just stupid good.
Wonderful dining experience all around! Highly recommend!
Delicious choices for food and cocktails. Attentive but not intrusive service. Would definitely eat here again before going to another performance in the area.
The duck breast was outstanding!!!
Very nice pub style restaurant with a wonderful selection of beers and many German influenced foods. The bratwurst was excellent. Neighborhood gem!
Food was great, but the service not so much. We specifically delayed ordering entrees so we could enjoy the appetizers. The appetizers took a VERY long time to arrive and then the entrees arrived immediately after. Not timed correctly at all. I shudder to think what would have happened if we had ordered the entrees right away. The Server was not attentive and did not take away dirty dishes or offer to go boxes. Kind of a pet peeve of mine--hate to sit with my dirty dish in front of me. Take it away!!!! Offer a second drink or a cup of coffee. Service at the end of the meal is the most important because its what we remember before tip time. A mostly enjoyable experience but it could have been exceptionable...
Very relaxed , great place for a dinner out with friends. Food was very, very tasty and portion size was perfect. Would be a good place for a date if not to busy, if busy might be a bit to loud for a couples night.
The food was good and the waiter attentive but the hostess screwed up the reservation. My party arrived separately and she seated us separately on different floors and it took more than 20 minutes (via text communications) to realize everyone was present just in different parts of the restaurant. Very frustrating since we were time constrained with theatre tickets.
Food was greasy and horrible
Bouillabaisse is not made with tomato soup
We wanted a casual place for a meal before a concert. Stoddard's fit the bill. The food was good and the beer selection was great.
We were looking for a pre-ballet meal close to the Opera House and Stoddard's was well recommended. We were seated right away and service was generally prompt. We enjoyed a local on-tap cider with our meals. My traditional Rabbit Pot Pie was just what I expected, no fancy twists, overall very hot and tasty. The pastry in particular was well made. I would go here again.
Great burgers at a fair price in a cool environment. Other menue items have always been good. Excellent choice of beers on tap. It's our favorite go to place before ballet or theater on Washington St.
I've always liked Stoddard's so we booked a reservation for St Patrick's day because it was also a birthday celebration with a group of 8. I must say it was the first time I was really disappointed with them. I know it's a holiday and they were busy, but our waitress was 100% not interested in talking to us at all, we never got the chance to put in orders at the same time, it was scattered and disorganized ordering whenever we were able to hold her attention for more than a minute. The birthday boy didn't get a drink for the first 45 minutes we were there, we had to ask several times to get the things we did manage to order and we had to deal with an attitude from our waitress. Luckily she disappeared completely 3/4 of the way through our meal so the end of our night went well. I still like Stoddards but I would not recommend it with a group larger than 4 or on a busy holiday night.
The ambience was "energetic-plus." But it was St. Patrick's Day. Pretty loud, but food good and moods, merry. Went there before the Boston Ballet, as near it. I'd go again.
Were there for St. Patrick's day. I would say the best Pub in Boston.
Not much variety on the menu, Moscow mule was not so great, painkiller was awesome, server seemed annoyed at us
Dinner was excellent as well as the beer selections. Food was wonderful and very good.
Great ambiance and beer choices. Food was ok.
Listen, I got there about five minutes before the kitchen closed but they still let us order and weren’t even annoyed about it. It was very clean and the food was wonderful. The staff was polite but not annoying. I’d definitely visit again.
I had not been in here before and was pleasantly surprised. when with some friends after the theatre and had one of the best burgers I've had in a long time.
The cauliflower appetizer, duck and chicken entrees were excellent! There was only on dessert and no cappuccino. Service was good, but the tables were too close together and too close to the bar. This is a better bar scene than dining before a show.
Excellent food and fantastic service at the bar. Can’t go wrong with the pork belly starter in blueberry gastrique or “creamy” tomato-based bouillabaisse with lobster, mussels and shrimp. Many local/regional draft beer selections and helpful advice from the bar keeps. Friendly local crowd and sports quietly on the TVs over a huge, hand-carved oaken bar. A feeling of history and place in a city with more than its fair share. Don’t miss it!
Overall it was pretty good, the service was just pretty slow. Would go back again to try it at least for a second time (and hope we had a faster server). The cape cod mule and fondue were delicious.
We had a reservation and got seated right away. Our waiter came promptly to our table. Drinks were served in a timely fashion. Our meals were prepared to our likes and our waiter kept checking on us frequently. It was busy but we were taken care with minimal waiting. We would return.
Great vibe, comfortable seating, super service. Food was good, not great but we’ll be back.
When ever we have theatre tickets in Boston, we always make a reservation at Stoddard’s. At Stoddard’s we can be assured of good food, great ambiance and an overall fun time.
Have been to Stoddards several times. Great menu, have never been disappointed with food. Drinks are great and the service is perfect. Fun dinner before a play at the Opera House.
Took my parents before a show at The Opera House. My partner had been there many times before; the rest of us had not. We all loved the decor. The service was excellent and fast. It wasn’t fast-food level affordable but the prices were reasonable for table service in a nice, comfortable room in a prime location near the theaters. While everything was good, based on what we ordered, I’d recommended sticking to the appetizers, salads and sandwiches/burgers. Those were the best values (appetizers were sharing sized) and were the biggest hits of the night. Thanks to the staff for a nice evening.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Stoddard's. We were late due to traffic, and (having called to report this) we were warmly greeted by the hostess and promptly seated. Our waiter, Paul, was personable and friendly without being intrusive. The trout was well-prepared and the routabaga (sp?) puree and fried brussel sprouts were inventive without being odd. Tasty and well-prepared! My husband had the rabbit pot pie and enjoyed it, especially the light and flaky pastry topping. The prices were what I'd expect for Boston, and the portions and quality preparation matched the prices.
The interior has character and the sound levels were very manageable. Close to all theaters. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!
I’ve started with the poutine and I had duck breast while my husband had rabbit pot pie. All the food was delicious and the hard cider was unique compared to others my husband has had and the cocktail I had was a bartender invention (Player Piano I seem to recall) and it was wonderful! I ordered a second and when it came to the table it didn’t taste quite like my first and the server was quick to have it remade. My husband and I could enjoy conversation even though we were fairly close to other diners. We had tickets to the theater and this was a perfect pre-show choice!!
Unless you like dining inches from strangers I’d say don’t bother. Food was super pricey being next to the theater and terrible! The quinoa was hard, the scallops raw, the onion rings mushy.... the only plus was an extensive craft beer menu. Don’t waste your time and $ coming here. Perfect for a pre-theater drink ONLY!
Always a great option! My husband and I have always likes Stoddard's -- great beer and wine lists, really good food, very convenient if we have theatre tickets. The restaurant can get loud, but the staff was kind enough to reserve a table for us near the window to accommodate hearing issues. I was a little disappointed in the scallops dish this visit -- they were overcooked and not "seared" enough for me -- but my husband's duck was sublime. Great spot -- we recommend it to friends and visitors often!
Was seated immediately. I enjoyed the décor. Great beer list. Had the fondue & pretzels. Very generous serving of pretzels. My gnocchi was good. Had leftovers. Didn't try dessert because we were so full from the appetizer.
There were a lot of people enjoying the bar and sports on TV. It's not something I enjoy, but it didn't bother me. I imagine if a more lively sporting event was on, that might get noisy.
Good casual place to eat. Especially if you enjoy beer.
Food was good but horrible service! I heard great things but was very disappointed
Pub atmosphere, great décor. Reservation at 6 was accommodated at 6:15. Food was very good, we had the cheese and meat tray which was excellent as were the fish and chips.
