Food was greasy and horrible
Bouillabaisse is not made with tomato soup
Great burgers at a fair price in a cool environment. Other menue items have always been good. Excellent choice of beers on tap. It's our favorite go to place before ballet or theater on Washington St.
The ambience was "energetic-plus." But it was St. Patrick's Day. Pretty loud, but food good and moods, merry. Went there before the Boston Ballet, as near it. I'd go again.
Were there for St. Patrick's day. I would say the best Pub in Boston.
Not much variety on the menu, Moscow mule was not so great, painkiller was awesome, server seemed annoyed at us
Dinner was excellent as well as the beer selections. Food was wonderful and very good.
Great ambiance and beer choices. Food was ok.
Listen, I got there about five minutes before the kitchen closed but they still let us order and weren’t even annoyed about it. It was very clean and the food was wonderful. The staff was polite but not annoying. I’d definitely visit again.
I had not been in here before and was pleasantly surprised. when with some friends after the theatre and had one of the best burgers I've had in a long time.
The cauliflower appetizer, duck and chicken entrees were excellent! There was only on dessert and no cappuccino. Service was good, but the tables were too close together and too close to the bar. This is a better bar scene than dining before a show.
Excellent food and fantastic service at the bar. Can’t go wrong with the pork belly starter in blueberry gastrique or “creamy” tomato-based bouillabaisse with lobster, mussels and shrimp. Many local/regional draft beer selections and helpful advice from the bar keeps. Friendly local crowd and sports quietly on the TVs over a huge, hand-carved oaken bar. A feeling of history and place in a city with more than its fair share. Don’t miss it!
Overall it was pretty good, the service was just pretty slow. Would go back again to try it at least for a second time (and hope we had a faster server). The cape cod mule and fondue were delicious.
We had a reservation and got seated right away. Our waiter came promptly to our table. Drinks were served in a timely fashion. Our meals were prepared to our likes and our waiter kept checking on us frequently. It was busy but we were taken care with minimal waiting. We would return.
Great vibe, comfortable seating, super service. Food was good, not great but we’ll be back.
When ever we have theatre tickets in Boston, we always make a reservation at Stoddard’s. At Stoddard’s we can be assured of good food, great ambiance and an overall fun time.
Have been to Stoddards several times. Great menu, have never been disappointed with food. Drinks are great and the service is perfect. Fun dinner before a play at the Opera House.
Took my parents before a show at The Opera House. My partner had been there many times before; the rest of us had not. We all loved the decor. The service was excellent and fast. It wasn’t fast-food level affordable but the prices were reasonable for table service in a nice, comfortable room in a prime location near the theaters. While everything was good, based on what we ordered, I’d recommended sticking to the appetizers, salads and sandwiches/burgers. Those were the best values (appetizers were sharing sized) and were the biggest hits of the night. Thanks to the staff for a nice evening.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Stoddard's. We were late due to traffic, and (having called to report this) we were warmly greeted by the hostess and promptly seated. Our waiter, Paul, was personable and friendly without being intrusive. The trout was well-prepared and the routabaga (sp?) puree and fried brussel sprouts were inventive without being odd. Tasty and well-prepared! My husband had the rabbit pot pie and enjoyed it, especially the light and flaky pastry topping. The prices were what I'd expect for Boston, and the portions and quality preparation matched the prices.
The interior has character and the sound levels were very manageable. Close to all theaters. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!
I’ve started with the poutine and I had duck breast while my husband had rabbit pot pie. All the food was delicious and the hard cider was unique compared to others my husband has had and the cocktail I had was a bartender invention (Player Piano I seem to recall) and it was wonderful! I ordered a second and when it came to the table it didn’t taste quite like my first and the server was quick to have it remade. My husband and I could enjoy conversation even though we were fairly close to other diners. We had tickets to the theater and this was a perfect pre-show choice!!
Unless you like dining inched from strangers I’d say don’t bother. Food was super pricey being next to the theater and terrible! The quinoa was hard, the scallops raw, the onion rings mushy.... the only plus was an extensive craft beer menu. Don’t waste your time and $ coming here. Perfect for a pre-theater drink ONLY!
Always a great option! My husband and I have always likes Stoddard's -- great beer and wine lists, really good food, very convenient if we have theatre tickets. The restaurant can get loud, but the staff was kind enough to reserve a table for us near the window to accommodate hearing issues. I was a little disappointed in the scallops dish this visit -- they were overcooked and not "seared" enough for me -- but my husband's duck was sublime. Great spot -- we recommend it to friends and visitors often!
Food was good but horrible service! I heard great things but was very disappointed
Pub atmosphere, great décor. Reservation at 6 was accommodated at 6:15. Food was very good, we had the cheese and meat tray which was excellent as were the fish and chips.
Went before the Noel Gallagher show. Perfect ambiance and great food.
Dinner before show at Opera House with My husband. He enjoyed the extensive beer selection. We shared an appetizer. For dinner I had the rib eye and he has fish and chips. Both were cooked perfectly. Service was friendly and attentive.
The ambience and decor was unique. I enjoyed reading the history of the location.
Thank you for a perfect evening!!
Reservation recommended... seems to be an after work hot spot!
We reserved this restaurant since it is close to the Boston Opera house and we were attending a performance. We ordered a side of cauliflower to be served with our entre. I ordered trout as my entre and me wife ordered scallops. when we were served my dinner was duck not trout and the cauliflower was cold. I sent the duck back and by the time my entre was served my wife had finished her meal. The staff apologized but we have removed this restaurant from our list of establishments we visit in Boston.
Excellent meals for everyone. Loved the atmosphere.
Great place. Great wait staff. Solid beer list. And quite a place to watch people and hang out.
The food was good but service was not very consistent. Waiter next came to check on us and we had to ask the hostess to get our waiter.
Leider sehr laut und für die Qualität etwas zu teuer!
Great atmosphere albeit a little loud, but it was Friday night so this was to be expected. Very friendly, attentive service and the food was great!
Not sure what was happening on this visit to Stoddard's; it was ok but not great. The bouillabaisse was a bit too thick for my taste (closer to marinara sauce that broth) but not bad; came in a small bowl and with no bread or croutons (they brought me some when I asked). More potatoes than fish. The Scotch Egg was very dried out; definitely not cooked to order. My kid's burger was fine. The grinder was ok; closer to a panini in that it was toasted and pressed; we were expecting more greens. Fries were good. Still a convenient, reasonably priced option for before the theater; they are very good at bringing things out quickly and accommodating theatre-goers in a hurry.
I Loved Stoddards. Loved the atmosphere most of all!!!! We Loved the Cauliflower appetizer. My daughter wanted to drink the juice at the bottom of the bowl, it was so delicious. So I double dog dared her and she Did!!! The big surprise was Pineapple Pepper cake we had for dessert, we first said No, but were intrigued. LOVED IT!Cant wait to go back!
I really thought the food here was good but it was sooooo cold inside that we spent the entire time dressed in jackets. I will go back it's better weather and give it another chance. But, really, turn the heat up a bit.
Wife and I dining before a show in theater district. Found the food very good with Mussels, Rabbit Pot Pie and Stoddard's own Burger... The service questionable... Asked for Captain Morgan (CM) and coke... Without saying a word, came back with Cruzan 9 and coke... Off the waiter went as I tasted the drink, !WHAT! is this? Thought is might Jim Beam... Told waiter this is NOT CM... He took it back... Came back and said the bartender used Cruzan because they didn't have CM! Thanks for telling me... Yechh! So I went with a Long Island Iced Tea (LIIT) and that was good, but later in the meal I asked for another drink for my wife and another LIIT for me... Came back with my wife's drink in 1 minute... Mine? took another 10 minutes... Doubt I am going back... No CM? Really?
Our 2nd time there, both times for a Boston Celtics pre-game dinner and beers. The service is impeccable, food is good with portions that are of good size. They have a great selection of beer, both draft and bottled. Reservation process through Open Table was simple. It's becoming a " go to" place.
NYE dinner for two, cute, comfortable, great service, VERY GOOD food and very good price for NYE!
I love this place! Delicious food and beer. The ambiance is relaxed but lively making it a perfect place for a group meet up or a date. Furthermore, the staff was friendly and willing to accommodate some last minute add-ons to our party.
Great classic cocktails, attentive waitstaff, and gourmet food. We loved it for date night.
Great beer menu including cask ales on English beer engines. The rabbit pot pie was excellent as was the meat/cheese platter, which easily could feed 2-3 people. Burgers are fantastic.
