We sat downstairs and the was a reception of some sort going on; making it somewhat "energetic". The service was great. The cocktail was fantastic (forget the name). The food (I got the duck entree) was great. Except for the noise level, everything was really really good.
Location in this old historical bar is an important plus if you are in the Boston Green area. The main floor bar is a great meeting place, especially if you enjoy different kinds of beer. The bar area is busy, the tin roof adds to the ambiance. Dinner reservation was spot on with OpenTable. Service was prompt, even though the place was packed on a Wed., night, around 7:00, with some patrons dining before heading over to the Orpheum Theater for an 8:00 concert. The wines by the glass were about $10.00 each, the rice bowl and the pasta dish we had were fairly priced and enough for each of us. Wait staff was pleasant and efficient.
We had a Wonderful experience with two children on a Friday night before attending the ballet. They went out of the way to accommodate kids meal request and make them feel special. We ordered the scallops and they were delicious. Ambiance was dark and cozy.
We were visiting from out of state. Ambience was nice and the servers were nice as well. Poutine fries were great!
Fun and delicious in the heart of the city. Nice ambience. Try to sit against the wall to lessen the noise.
Loved the atmosphere and the food was great. The place had a lot of energy and loved the music selection (any place that plays The Specials will be high on my list). We had a group of six and had a great time. We are not quiet talkers so the noise level was never an issue for us. Would definitely go again.
Somethings have changed and not for the better. The drinks were watered down and the ginger beer they used was flat. The chicken wings were better before they had more flavor.
Food and service were sub par. Had to wait 15 minutes for drinks and it was not crowded. Would not go back.
Somewhat disappointed with our experience. Restaurant was not that busy but service was very slow and waitress had zero interest in our table of 7. Kale salad was delicious as was the meat and cheese platter but the scallops had too much cream sauce and were hidden under a heap of lettuce. Drinks were weak in liquor. We were surprised to learn there was no coffee or dessert.
We had relatives staying at the Godfrey Hotel and Stoddard’s was nearby. Glad we made reservations thru OpenTable as it was Saturday night and Stoddard’s was packed. My wife had the mussels and they were very good, the rest had hamburgers cooked to our individual tastes and they were very good. Great selection of beers on tap.
Caroline (I think was her name) was an amazing server! Thank you to everyone there for making the night so much fun on Friday! Great food and great drinks!
Winter = snow.
Stoddard's = LOUD.
Wait staff = SLOW (in several ways).
Food (Shepherd's pie) = very good.
Food (Shepherd's pie) price ($24) = are you kidding me?
Recommend to friends = I'll tell them about my experience and let them figure it out.
The food was bad. Being an Architect, I can say the entrance was terribly dark, a tough transition when coming in from outside.
Food was good. Service was horrible
Had a great dinner before seeing a show. Got in and out no problem. Great beer list jasmine bowl was very good. Good bar scene.
A friend and I like this place, so we've been a couple of times. The first time I had the charcuterie board which was really quite plentiful and very delicious. Yesterday I had the burger with a combination of fries and onion rings. The onion rings were great; the fries were basically just cooked potatoes, not crispy at all. The burger was very tasty, but I did mention to our server that it was quite salty. I rarely have negative comments for meals and am usually very happy with what I order. This time I just needed to comment on those two issues. That said, we will go back because their menu has quite a few items we still want to try.
This is a favorite for beer and a great burger. I am an old fogey, however, so the noise level is a bit annoying for conversation.
Great beer list, great burger, great service
Carolyn our waitress made our first time dining experience at Stoddard's our go to place the next time we are in the city! We were never disappointed with any part of the visit!
Went to Stoddard's prior to a play at the Opera House on Washington St. Good beer and whiskey/scotch selection. Scotch egg was delightful.
Our server was great! I don’t remember her name but she was so helpful and friendly and was the only one waiting tables in the downstairs. She was
I’d like to give this place another try next time I’m in town.
I was very pleased with the food options.
Our server was nice, but we had some hiccups with her familiarity with the menu and a mistake on the bill.
The mussels made my girlfriend sick, although she enjoyed eating them. I had the shepherds pie, which was average and way overpriced at $24. Caesar salad was good but warm. Noise was a big issue and we had to wait upwards of 10m for the server to bring the check. Would not recommend.
We always have a great time at Stoddard's. I'm fussy about my Manhattans, but they always get them right. Our waitress, Michael (?) was wonderful—attentive, engaging, efficient, and a great sense of humor. Great food and drinks, great service, great atmosphere.
The pretzel & fondue appetizer was amazing - entrees were pretty pricey and missing salt. Staff was very friendly and fast
Great location, sever was wonderful, really helpful in her suggestions. However food was mediocre at best
Great selection of interesting cocktails and an amazing beer list. The stuffies were great, as was the duck. We needed to leave for a performance at the Opera House and our server, Carolyn, was great about assuring us she would have us out of there by 7 (which she did) and she was otherwise friendly and fun. The history of the place and the way it was decorated were great fun too. Be forewarned that the area in front of the main bar is very noisy on a Friday after work.
I would get rid of the store bought from the freezer stuffed Quahogs!! Better off to just not serve them the quality is terrible!! Burger and the scallops excellent!! Fries should cook little longer!! Staff was incredible very friendly attentive!! I give honest opinion I’ve commercial fished up and down the coast and eaten at many of the restaurants with stuffed clams and crab cakes!! But your stuffed quahogs are a poor product! Either make them yourselves to improve or take off the menu!! Thanks for a great time and good food!! Except the quahog
Great service and alcohol drinks
The food was good. The lamb shepherds pie was excellent. The scallops were also good.
Sorry, I was not excited - maybe bad choice of day (St. Peddys Day Celebration). My stuffie was dry, a bad oyster,... the Brussels sprouts were delicious. It was loud. The server was wonderful, pleasant and fast. The ambiance was overshadowed by the noise level.
Seems to be more about the drinking than the eating. Food was ok but very limited options for vegetarian and forget vegan.
Despite having an e-mail confirmation of our reservations showing that we had a 2 hour reservation, the manager tried to get us to leave after 1 and 1/4 hr. They had a reservation for 10 and wanted our table for 2 to complete the group. We were happy with the food and very happy with the waitress, but we were turned off by the treatment by the management.
It was much too noisy to carry on a conversation, but the food was fine
Nice beer selection, but our second round were both bad pours-about 40% head.
Great atmosphere and amazing history. Love how they maintained parts of the building to preserve its history. Good food and wine menu.
We went to Stoddard's for an early dinner on Sunday after the theater. It was a very pleasant experience. The restaurant was nearly empty but I loved the atmosphere in the place . The staff was very pleasant and the food was very good. They have a long beer list, but apparently it's out of date. Never the less they had a good choice of beers. I really enjoyed the mussels for dinner. We'd go back for sure.
It looks good for a date night. I noticed many couples there that looked like they were enjoying themselves. But if you are with a group of friends and want to be able to talk across the table, it's just too loud. There were 4 of us (on a weekend night) and there was just no way we could really talk. So it depends what kind of atmosphere you are looking for. To my taste the food was ok but too sweet. Even the risotto was sweet. There was a dessert that was very rich, strawberry cheesecake served in a glass. Delicious but probably about 2,000 calories. It was served in a glass which just didn't work because the crust was very hard and stuck to the bottom of the glass. We needed a hammer and chisel. Anyway to summarize: the service was very good, the atmosphere was upbeat and lively (just too loud for our taste), and the food was very American. They did make sure we were out of there in time for a show, we appreciated that.
Food was Fantastic! If you like a variety of Beers to choose from there are tons. Service was great and not too pricey.
