Stoddard's
Food and service is excellent!
The place has a quirky, historic vibe. Beer and wine selection is quite good. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Our dinners were underwhelming. We expected something better for the price.
Would go back again for a drink before or after the theater but probably not for dinner.
We chose Stoddards because of the proximity to a show we were going to see at the Opera House. Overall we were so disappointed. Our waitress was so unfriendly, honestly if that unhappy, find a new job! The pretzel and fondue app was tasty and then it all went downhill. Three burgers all ordered medium well came out in varying doneness. Well done, rare and medium. We were pressed for time so did not send them back. My Jasmine rice bowl was served with the hardest unripe avocado ever. There are just far better choices in the city, look elsewhere.
Do not go here for lunch, bleached fish nasty and returned for burger with cold rubbery bacon on top of quasi stale roll.
Lovely waitress though.
Decent food, good location for the theatre, cool old building, nice beer, very friendly. wait staff
The host seated us right away and was great in making sure my boyfriend and I had everything we needed prior to our waiter coming over. It was our server who took way too long to take our orders, refill our water, or bring us our check. We had to remind him several times before these requests happened. My boyfriend wasn’t too happy with the burger he ordered as it wasn’t how he had ordered it to be cooked. The pretzel and fondue appetizer was good. Overall I probably will not come back here.
Great food!! Loved the decor!
Stoddard's appeared to be a decent choice for a quick meal before an event at The Opera House. Unfortunately, didn't turn out that way as we were seated right by the door where we were blasted with cold air every time the door opened.Meanwhile five tables sat empty for the whole time we were there. Restaurant just felt dirty and looked dusty. Food was not good at all, shepherds pie was flavorless, I tried a couple of bites and let the waitress know it was inedible. She was kind enough to remove it from the bill. Wife had a burger that was mediocre at best, fries that were undercooked but dark brown which tells me the oil is old. Left hungry.
limited menu, we should have aid more attention when we made the reservations
This place was awesome! Delicious food, great drinks and awesome wait staff. Our waitress made my parents feel really special on their birthday. I got the duck and it was the best duck I’ve ever had! It’s definitely loud and boisterous in the restaurant so not a place for quiet conversation.
Great service with a ton of fun drink options!
Outstanding service.
Wonderfully eclectic menu.
Reasonably priced drinks
The quality of the food was just ok. The scallops were salty and the duck was very small and not enough flavor.
We chose this place to have dinner before going to the theater. The decor was interesting with corsets hanging On the wall. The wine list is good. The charcuterie and cheese appetizer was the Best part of the meal. However it went downhill from there. The food was mediocre. I got the carpet bagger which is a ribeye steak w Mashed potatoes . The steak was thin, salty and Fattier than usual. If it wasn’t for the charcoal the steak would’ve been flavorless. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm ,bland &consistency of cream of wheat. There was no dessert . We each ordered an Irish coffee that was Luke warm and watery.
Our lunches came quite quickly and served by a very friendly person. We were (happily) surprised at the size of the servings. I ended up bringing a lot of mine (the charcuterie board - delicious) back to the office with me. My friend had the Ruben with a split of friend onion rings and French fries and said it was terrific. We would definitely go back.
We had a great meal prior to going to see Beautiful at the Opera House. Our server was great with suggestions for us (it was our first time there) and knew that we were going to a 7:30 show. The wine-by-the-glass menu were reasonably priced, and they have very generous pours. My burger was delicious. The service was fast and friendly. The seating is a little tight and the noise level fairly high, but the quality and value made it very worth the visit; we will definitely go back.
We were looking forward to a nice dinner. Reviews seemed good, as did their menu and beer selection. We were not impressed. Restaurant seemed understaffed. I believe our waitress was taking care of the entire restaurant. Food was underseasoned and underwhelming. With so much potential this restaurant was disappointing on many levels. Too bad. Competition is tight in the theater district, not worth another try.
We were there for Sunday brunch so it was quiet with many empty tables. The service was exceptional.
I've been to Stoddard's before and was always impressed with the food and service. This time around, I feel the food was sub par. Thank God for our waitress who was super attentive and offered great suggestions. The meatballs felt like they were taken out of a crock pot, reheated in a microwave, with no sauce accompanying the dish. I got the lobster ravioli and though that it was way over done. The flavor was good, but not outstanding. I was fairly disappointed and will think twice next time I decided to go here for food. If it wasn't for the drinks and the ambiance, I would not come back.
Great cocktails. Good food. Not cheap but not crazy expensive either.
Unfortunately the Shepard's pie was watery and bland and it took 15 minutes for someone to take our order which is rough when you're trying to make a show
First time here. It was recommended by a family member for a pre-show dinner. The food was very good, drink options were great, service was wonderful. Good pub style food and atmosphere. My granddaughter asked for dessert but was surprised they don’t serve anything.
Nice ambiance and near the theater district. We ordered the pretzel and beer cheese appetizer which was generous. The Cesar salad had an odd taste and the ‘jasmine rice bowl’ was one of the worst dishes I’ve ever had in a restaurant. First of all it wasn’t jasmine rice. It also was supposed to come with crabmeat but the crab meat was mixed into the rice. There wasn’t no sauce or anything but it was served with an overdone poached egg, avocado, house made kimchi and scallion pancake. Yuck. Service was ok. Will not go back but options in this area are limited.
Stoddard's is a good place to go for a casual, but tasty, meal prior to a show in the theater district.
Although my mixed drink was excellent, the food itself was mediocre. Our server was excellent and made our time there quite enjoyable.
Nice stuff. Scallops awesome
Always great
We came all the way from Holliston to have their burger...worth the travel to Boston. We were
also pleasantly surprised to have found our favorite beer "Mayflower - Thanksgiving Ale"...and
we got the last two available pours! Our waiter was prompt and friendly...the food and drink were
great! This is our new favorite Boston "pub style" go to.
We were glad that we made reservations before the theater because the dining area filled quickly after we got there at 5:15. We had 4 distinctively different meals and everyone was very happy with their choices. Our server knew the menu and ingredients well and was able to pace our meal so that we could eat and be ready to head to the show without rushing. The space itself is beautiful and interesting due to its history. This was our second trip to Stoddard's and we'll look forward to visiting again.
I met a friend from college here. It was a very convenient, vibrant location. The food and beers were both very good and reasonable for a downtown spot.
The people were great. They were out of some items which was disappointing but the food was great pub food. They were great about our handicapped people and dealing with two wheel chairs. They also validated, though the garage was a few blocks away.
The front of house was a little grumpy when we dared to walk in 8 minutes earlier than our reservation - this is despite the table being ready!
I wouldn’t say it was completely children friendly - no kids meals - but they happily split a main meal onto two plates for them which I thought was good.
Server was lovely and attentive and food was amazing!
Of course visiting a favorite traditional pub at Christmas time means sharing one's meal with lots of happy, noisy people. On top of which we were early (long f day). The guardian at the door worked to find us a seat downstairs where another jolly party was happening.
As for service, excellent. Excellent martini, , pleasant champagne. Partner had Lobster Ravioli (as did the woman e next door, both liked it!). I ate a dozen and a half oysters from Well fleet and we split great Caesar salad. Went back for great clam chowder and a haddock sandwich the next day. Would go again anytime.
Fantastic menu! The food was fabulous and the service was great. It was very noisy upstairs at 10pm so I would probably eat downstairs next time.
Extremely festive first stop of our business Team's holiday night out. Excellent food, spirits and cocktail menus and service.
This is the real deal. This Irish gastro pub had an amazing beer menu, incredible decor, and an amazing menu that left us satiated. What a gem!
I reserved a table for 7 with all the women in my family , including my 11 year old cousin, as we go to see the nutcracker every year and the location was close to the theater and the reviews looked okay. We were lead past several open tables and sat at two wobbly tables pushed together at the bar. Several groups of people were standing around us, drinks in hand, and it was very hard to hear or see. (My 11 year old cousin making comments about why she was allowed to be in a bar and upset at the noise level) When we asked to be moved to somewhere else we were told no, they were fully booked, tough luck. We made due at the bar and upon leaving counted at least 3 locations that had remained empty throughout the course of our stay that we could have been moved to. The food was good but the blatant refusal to accommodate us while we stared at other empty tables all night was insulting. If you’re here for drinks and food and a casual night and don’t mind being treated badly by management, this is your spot.
Restaurant obviously knows they can get away with poor service because of where they are located.
Great experience all around. Had the scallops which were cooked perfectly. Bartenders have outstanding skills. All the staff are very friendly.
Fun place with lots of authentic historic structural elements. Huge bar with wide array of draft selections. Food is solid pub fare - don't miss the fried artichokes! Order taking was prompt, but better timing is needed with the kitchen. Main courses were delivered before we finished the appetizers - and the table was too small to accommodate all the plates. Seating is a bit close, but no worse than many Boston restaurants. Easy walking distance to Boston Common and Macy's shopping/pedestrian area. Would certainly return.
