Thank you for choosing Steven W's Downtown Bistro. We are a full service restaurant featuring the finest foods and beverages from around the world. We serve seafood from off the Carolina coast, Alaska, Northeastern waters, as well as other parts of the world. We also feature steaks, veal, pork, chicken, pasta, soups, appetizers, salads. My motto is to leave no food group untouched. We take great pride in our food preparations so as to be the best we can and that means always fresh ingredients prepared in our kitchen. We also make our desserts in our kitchen featuring an Oreo Crusted Key Lime pie with a Raspberry sc or an Almond Basket on a cloud of Raspberry Pastry Cream with ice cream, strawberries, chocolate & caramel sc just to name a couple.

The room has a bar & bathrooms on same floor & can be used for sit down dinners, buffet dinners or cocktail parties. A fabulous room for Christmas parties, but get your reservations early.

Steven W’s a good experience overall! The only reason why I lowered the service rating a little was because they were very busy and our waitress did not attend our table to refill drinks or ask if we needed anything enough. I guess they were understaffed for a Thursday night.
We had a very nice meal. A colleague whom I had never physically met flew in to Greenville and I was in Lexington, SC. We decided this would be roughly half way and a Newberry friend suggested Steven W's. It did not disappoint! My friend had the salmon and I had the pork chop which I could not finish but took home to my happy husband! And the dessert, though simple, was very elegant and scrumptious. It was a sugar cookie molded into a bowl with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, chocolate drizzle and strawberries.
Delicious dinner! Filet cooked as ordered and the sides (mashed potatoes and vegetables) were very good! The bread is so so good but I didn't ask for more since I knew I had to have dessert! Tiramisu... excellent! I wish the noise level was lower but there's no way they can make that happen in their beautiful, restored building. The only negative would be our waitress acting like she was uncomfortable with my husband and I trying to make our mind up about an appetizer.....it made ME uncomfortable for her to act like she was in the middle of a brawl!...I felt somewha t rushed to order and finish...But, still, a great meal!!
We have been here several times (from out of town). This occasion was a pre-theater meal and to celebrate my husband's 71st birthday! It is always a treat -- the food is excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the service is perfect! We were not disappointed this time around! There was a special dessert which was amazing (Almond Cookie Cup with ice cream & strawberries drizzled with chocolate).....would certainly recommend Steven W's anytime you are in Newberry, SC!
My wife and I have enjoyed numerous visits to the "Bistro" since discovering it the first time we attended a production at the Opera House. If at all possible we always dine at the "Bistro" prior to attending the show. The food is excellent served in a professional and friendly manner and the prices are more than reasonable. It would be a good idea to provide at least one or two vegetarian entree's for those who don't eat meat, such as my lovely wife.
Not a lot has changed since last visit 2 years ago....in fact, think menu is identical....and thats probably why rating is what it is. VERY limited menu for entrees.
Shared a crab cake app, 2 very small cakes, but very good & fair amount of crab, presented nicely ($14). G/F had a cajun seafood pasta, 3 shrimp, 3 scallops, a good quality fettucini, but in a not overly exciting red sauce .Shrimp & Scallops were good. Sauce could have definitely used a little pop. I had the Veal Saltimbocca, ($25) very average. Certainly not fork tender & very dry stuffing.....almost tasted deep fried. Served with a very small side of sautéed veggies ( good) & mashed potatoes....that I swear were not homemade....tasted like Sysco from the bag. Presentation was nice on everything, and the bread served is very good & appears homemade. Shared a chocolate moose cake, very good ($8)....appeared home made or from a local bakery. Drinks were average price ($7-8), but weaker pours.
All in all, better than average, but considering small town location, one of the better choices around for finer dining, just a tad pricey for what you get . Again, for the location.....we aren't in Chicago or New York, definitely in the upper tier for the area. The service was excellent...it was a Friday night & there were 5 other tables. Nice old building, restored nicely, and a very clean facility.
Would definitely return, hopefully Chef will change up the menu a bit before next visit.
The building is BEAUTIFUL! Service was fabulous. The food was so-so at best. I got the filet and crab cake. The steak was cooked very well, and the crab cake was decent (not great), but the sides were very bland and left a lot to be desired. My friend got the special which was a blackened salmon. As soon as it came out she said it resembled a lean cuisine. I thought the same. She said it was not really good. It was just okay. Before the bill came we were debating how much her salmon cost. We were thinking somewhere between $20-$25 since my filet and crab cake was $27. It was $36!!!! That was absolutely ridiculous for that! That would have been a decent price if it had been a great piece of fish, but it was far from great.
I will not spend the money for this restaurant again!
Steven W's is one of several restaurants that my wife and I will go to we we are attending attending the Newberry Opera House. We like it because the food and service are always very good. The service is prompt, quite and efficient. If my wine glass needs filling, it is done sometimes with out my even realizing it. The noise level is quite so that a conversation can be held with out yelling. We like the restaurant and will continue to use it.
Food was excellent! There was a wedding party going on upstairs, and downstairs all of the tables were taken, but all in all, everything was wonderful! Service was a little slow, but we still had an enjoyable time. This wasn't our first time and definitely won't be our last!
The overall experience was very good at Steven W's. I particularly liked the Open Table Reservation process, it is seamless and easy to use. The service is very good, attentive and informed about the menu. The food itself was prepared very well. I will be back along with friends.
We make several trips a year to Newberry's Steven W's and have usually enjoyed the visit. The menu is adequate and there are always creative and interesting specials. One member of our party had their "usual", the flounder (whole) in apricot sauce, and was again pleased with the well-prepared selection. Another, not a big fan of salmon finding it often stale, poorly cooked or overthought, decided to try the Scottish Salmon Florentine. The portion size was adequate, the fish well prepared in the current mode of seeming more poached that sautéed and served on a small bed of fresh spinach with a delicate tasty sauce. This was a pleasure to eat and the flavorful preparation allowed the essence of the fresh fish to dominate. Service was nice but not overly fussy, which I loathe.
The only disappointment was the lack of a decent bonded rye whiskey which some prefer to bourbon in Manhattans and Old Fashions. I had the former and it seemed to have been made with white vermouth rather than red but was generous and enjoyable.
If you have not been, go. Steven W's is well worth a drive from Columbia.
We had dinner prior to attending the Tommy Emmanuel concert at the Newberry Opera House. The restaurant is just across the street, parking was easy and so convenient that the evening was made especially enjoyable.
We had the best table for two in the house, right at the window. The waiter was wonderful, the food was yummy, and the timing was perfect to make the concert.
About an hour drive from Greenville, SC, Steven W's makes for a nice little dinner trip. It's in beautiful and historic downtown Newberry - located in a former drug store right on the square. Great service and ambiance. Try their famous and delicious pecan crusted chicken breast with blackberry sauce.
