Our dinners were prepared and presented well. The wait staff served the food at an appropriate pace, from appetizers to desserts. We were there for a special occasion and the ambience contributed to a very enjoyable time for us.
All was good except for the service. Why are the waitresses making drinks??? It took over 30 minutes!!! Our reservations were a 6:30. We were seated at 6:15. The concert, across the street, was at 8:00. plenty of time, right? We had a party of 6. Well, we were late to the concert. Oh, and this is the second time, our waitresses, were making drinks. The restaurant is very good, but Waitresses, need to do, just that. Surely, Steven W's could afford to hire a bartender!!!
My daughter and I enjoyed dinner before the Henry Cho comedy show at the Newberry Opera House to celebrate what would have been mine and my late husband's 39th Anniversary. The meal was perfect for this special evening. Thank you Steven and staff. R. Woods
Outstanding find in a small town! Highly recommend this place for its fresh fish and seafood!
Great as usual.
We enjoyed our meals overall, but the menu hasn’t changed in 4 years since we were here last. The crab Rangoon was burned and over cooked. My husband’s entree was over cooked (veal saltibucca) and the cook cook have used a little less butter on the veggies. Dessert was tasty, service adequate for a busy night and a good price overall.
The menu and selections were all excellent. Quality food was above average. The only problem we had was selections on the wine list were not available. Had to make for different selections before the bottle was available
We ate at Steven W's before going to see a show across the street at the Newberry theatre and it was a wonderful meal. The owner's wife, Renee, came by our table several times to check on us. She was so kind and friendly. We were impressed with the menu and wine list. I ordered the pecan crusted fish and it was outstanding. My husband had crab cakes and soup - so delicious! Our friends had the flounder which was recommended by our server - again outstanding!! I don't think you could go wrong with any item on the menu! I can't wait to go again. This restaurant is winner!
As usual, the food and service was outstanding!
First time here, the restaurant is charming and cozy and the atmosphere is great, we had a very good bottle of wine, the service was good but a bit slow as they were having a very busy night, and our meal was wonderful. Would highly recommend Steven W's for a dinner out or a romantic evening.
Without a doubt one of the best all around restaurants I have been to in awhile..we will be back soon!
Our waiter tonight was great. Our drinks stayed refilled, he was very quick with any requests we had, and he was very friendly. Our food was bot the best. My husband's filet was cook perfectly, and the portions were fine, but the food did not seem seasoned. I had chicken fettuccini alfredo, he had mashed potatoes as a side, and there was no flavor. For my mom's birthday, they brought out a desert selection that was phenomenal!! Also, their rolls are to die for. I was disappointed in the flavor of the food, because I had such high expectations. That is why, overall, this place gets a 3 from us.
Was our Valentine's dinner on Feb. 15, to be followed by an evening at the Newberry Opera House. Great setting, very attentive server. We were early, so there the crowd came later. Food was good, attractive and more than ample. Key lime pie for dessert was a great ending to this special treat.
Excellent meals enjoyed by everyone in our party. Outstanding dessert.
Really good food at a very reasonable price.
I had a wonderful dinner at Stephen w's I love coming there for all occasion's best food ever!!!
Interesting ambiance. Very friendly staff. Reasonable prices.
Excellent service - Wonderful food! We were going to the Opera House & were a bit late due to traffic. Told our Server what we were doing & they assured us we would make curtain time.
Very customer orientated! Would highly recommend.........
Food was very good, we enjoyed the the whole flounder and the sides were very nice. Bar options limited particularly on the mixed drinks. Selection of the Zifendale was nice. Veal Saltimbocca would have been better had it not been breaded but generally was good.
Great as usual. Been there many times. Always great service and food is tasty at a reasonable price
You’ll never leave hungry or disappointed
This was our first time at Steven W's and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The facility was charming, the service was spot-on, the food was incredible; all-around, an enjoyable evening and we will definitely be returning when we have the opportunity to be in Newberry.
Enjoyed the evening very much. Food was okay but not very tasty. We had steak and crab cakes. They seemed to be very bland. Service was excellent and enjoyed the Christmas decor. Enjoyed visiting with others in the restaurant.
The apricot flounder was delicious. I would go back there and drive the 1 1/2 hrs to have that again. My husband also loved it. The service was great and there was no wait for our table.
A treasure, what a delightful find!
Great food and wonderful ambiance.
Food and service was excellent; however, the restaurant was cold.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Steven W's. The good and the wine was great. The service was prompt and courteous.
Our visit to Steven G's prior to attending the performance at the Newberry Opera House was truly outstanding. The food was superb and service great. Our second visit to Steven G's but not our last.
Always enjoy going there. Rachael was excellent. Especially enjoy it when Back Bar is entertaining.
Steven W’s a good experience overall! The only reason why I lowered the service rating a little was because they were very busy and our waitress did not attend our table to refill drinks or ask if we needed anything enough. I guess they were understaffed for a Thursday night.
Wonderful meal with superb service.
Ate there before seeing a show at the Newberry Opera House. Great location and food. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed our evening there. Candy was wonderful and made our evening. Will be back often and will request Candy. Food was excellent, and well presented. We dine out often , this was one of our most enjoyable evenings.
We had a very nice meal. A colleague whom I had never physically met flew in to Greenville and I was in Lexington, SC. We decided this would be roughly half way and a Newberry friend suggested Steven W's. It did not disappoint! My friend had the salmon and I had the pork chop which I could not finish but took home to my happy husband! And the dessert, though simple, was very elegant and scrumptious. It was a sugar cookie molded into a bowl with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, chocolate drizzle and strawberries.
Delicious dinner! Filet cooked as ordered and the sides (mashed potatoes and vegetables) were very good! The bread is so so good but I didn't ask for more since I knew I had to have dessert! Tiramisu... excellent! I wish the noise level was lower but there's no way they can make that happen in their beautiful, restored building. The only negative would be our waitress acting like she was uncomfortable with my husband and I trying to make our mind up about an appetizer.....it made ME uncomfortable for her to act like she was in the middle of a brawl!...I felt somewha t rushed to order and finish...But, still, a great meal!!
We have been here several times (from out of town). This occasion was a pre-theater meal and to celebrate my husband's 71st birthday! It is always a treat -- the food is excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the service is perfect! We were not disappointed this time around! There was a special dessert which was amazing (Almond Cookie Cup with ice cream & strawberries drizzled with chocolate).....would certainly recommend Steven W's anytime you are in Newberry, SC!
Great restaurant! You must tr the Almond Basket for dessert. A real treat!
My wife and I have enjoyed numerous visits to the "Bistro" since discovering it the first time we attended a production at the Opera House. If at all possible we always dine at the "Bistro" prior to attending the show. The food is excellent served in a professional and friendly manner and the prices are more than reasonable. It would be a good idea to provide at least one or two vegetarian entree's for those who don't eat meat, such as my lovely wife.
This place was absolutely amazing! The ribeye was grilled perfectly to medium rare and my wife's veal piccata was delicious! Priced just right too. I can't wait to go back!
Newberry is a gem of a town in South Carolina, full of antique stores and places to eat. This restaurant is right across the park from the Opera House. Friendly, good food, and great atmosphere.
Not a lot has changed since last visit 2 years ago....in fact, think menu is identical....and thats probably why rating is what it is. VERY limited menu for entrees.
Shared a crab cake app, 2 very small cakes, but very good & fair amount of crab, presented nicely ($14). G/F had a cajun seafood pasta, 3 shrimp, 3 scallops, a good quality fettucini, but in a not overly exciting red sauce .Shrimp & Scallops were good. Sauce could have definitely used a little pop. I had the Veal Saltimbocca, ($25) very average. Certainly not fork tender & very dry stuffing.....almost tasted deep fried. Served with a very small side of sautéed veggies ( good) & mashed potatoes....that I swear were not homemade....tasted like Sysco from the bag. Presentation was nice on everything, and the bread served is very good & appears homemade. Shared a chocolate moose cake, very good ($8)....appeared home made or from a local bakery. Drinks were average price ($7-8), but weaker pours.
All in all, better than average, but considering small town location, one of the better choices around for finer dining, just a tad pricey for what you get . Again, for the location.....we aren't in Chicago or New York, definitely in the upper tier for the area. The service was excellent...it was a Friday night & there were 5 other tables. Nice old building, restored nicely, and a very clean facility.
Would definitely return, hopefully Chef will change up the menu a bit before next visit.
