Always delicious food and great service. Best place in Newberry.
Quaint, historic setting with dining patron spacing. Veal piccata and apricot glazed flounder were delicious with vegetable sides. Service was excellent. Menu variety was appealing.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and restaurant. We are planning to go there again and we talk it up to others.
First time out with friends in weeks. Restaurant was well prepared for current circumstances. Limited but menu had varied selections. Staff were professional, friendly and attentive to our needs. Highly recommend and will certainly return.
High End restaurant. Food is excellent. Always spot on. Staff is friendly. Our go-to place in Newberry for special occasions.
We were in town for a concert at the Newberry Opera House and enjoyed a delicious meal.
The location is very convenient and the ambiance is nice. The service was very efficient and professional. Our server, Candy, was very knowledgeable and helpful with our meal selections. Our meal was very good and we shall return again.
Among the limited options in Newberry, Steven's is probably the closest to a dining experience. That's not to imply it's memorable. Service is friendly if not truly high standard, but certainly didn't detract from the meal. Wine list pretty average, but workable given the location. Menu [pricing is also moderate to high, especially compared to Columbia or Charleston, but it's really infuriating that specials are given with no pricing, and when asked, specials are $8-$10 higher than the most expensive menu items. Most of the food was under seasoned, and the temperatures and portions were fine. The plating on one dish was pretty nice, and the other pasta dish was just a pile of food. The dessert of the almond cup was the best dish of the night.
It was a chilly night when we ate there, and the front door has no screen or deflection at all, so the first two or three tables, where we were seated, got a blast of cold air every time the door opened. Uncomfortable at the least, and we were told there were no other tables at which we could have been seated.
It's the second time we've been to Steven's while attending a performance at the Opera House. They try hard and are very earnest, but overall it's generally unmemorable. Dinner for 3, even with one of the cheaper bottles of wine and a shared main course, was $140 including tip. Not a fortune, but not exactly a bargain either. Next time we would probably opt to grab a sandwich somewhere and then head to the Opera House. I know that it must be a challenge to provide real fine dining in Newberry, but for us, twice at Steven's is enough.
Steven w’s is always the right choice. Delicious food + great service = perfect evening.
Great food, friendly service, and just the right location. We'll stop again the next time we're in town.
We love going to Steven W’s whenever we go to Newberry for an event at The Newberry Opera House. The food is amazing and the service is excellent. We opted for the soup special (seafood chowder). My husband had the mussels appetizer which he said were the best he’s ever eaten (even at the beach)! He also had the whole flounder for an entree and I had salmon. Both were delicious. We shared a tiramisu for dessert....again, it was wonderful. We’ll continue to go to Steven W’s whenever we can.
What a positive experience. The food was flavorful and beautifully presented. I had shrimp nicoese and my husband had the whole flounder. We will definitely return.
Very nice restaurant. It and the show at the Newberry Opera made for a great evening.
Great service and meal! Perfect martini!
Always very good. Great staff, they will stop and visit even if no your table. Always great quality offerings.
2nd visit. Both have been fantastic. Filet was perfect - both times. Unfortunately, it was so good, I probably won't risk trying the other menu items in the future because I enjoyed it so much. Great service and charming setting. Thank you!!
We enjoyed our dinner however it was a little pricey
Fabulous. Crispy flounder the absolute best!! Will be back next month. Can’t wait.
Food wonderful. Service not so great. Perhaps too crowded. Much too loud. Have eaten there before and didn’t notice the loudness
We are regular but infrequent customers eating here for some 10 years (?) when we attend performances at the Newberry Opera House. The last several visits have been a shadow of the 5-star ratings we used to see at every visit. On arrival we found we would be seated at what has seemingly become our assigned seating; next to the last table in the back by the kitchen door. I mentioned this to the person seating us and she said she could seat us somewhere else but we had the idea it would be a bother so we sat where assigned. We planned to order pre-prandial cocktails and I asked the server if they could make a Manhattan. Before I could complete my query I was told that "of course I can and all you have to do was choose a bourbon". I wanted a classic Manhattan with rye and was told they did not stock rye! To avoid further irritating the server we elected to forgo the drinks. My wife was joyous when she learned that the flash-fried whole flounder with apricot sauce was on special that night and I ordered saltimbocca. The fish accompanied by steamed(?) squash and broccoli was unevenly cooked with part being perfect and the balance rather mushy. The saltimbocca comprised veal which was rather thick and a little tough with a very generous helping of a breading similar to what you see on commercial "veal cutlets". The thin sauce seemed not to have been much reduced. The dish was accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes. The bread was quite good; the service diffident. It is hard to say whether I would or would not recommend this restaurant to friends.
My wife & I had dinner here before a concert at the Opera House. We told our server about our plans, and she timed everything right so we weren't rushed, but we had plenty of time to make it to the show. She was very attentive - not obtrusive, but always there when we needed something. My wife had the Veal Saltimbocca and I had the Cajun Shrimp & Scallop Fettuccini, both of which were excellent. We also shared the Crab Wontons appetizer and the Almond basket dessert, and they were also great.
Awesome as always! Service and food were fantastic.
The service, ambience and most of all the food was spectacular. Potato encrusted Salmon was superb! We thoroughly enjoyed dining at Steven W's in Newberry and will look forward to another special occasion when we get to return to this very special place.
You were celebrating a birthday!
Outstanding food and service— a gem in the heart of Newberry.
Always a great experience! We will be back next time in town.
Wonderfully prepared veal and soups. Nice salad. Great prices bar and drinks. Exceptional service. A great find in Newberry before nearby concerts at the opera house.
A standby location for dinner before tickets at the Newberry Opera House. Be sure to call for reservations or you may not get a table. Consistently excellent fish dishes including many specials. First restaurant to serve us Trigger fish and it was excellent. Specials are somewhat pricey for a small town.
Always enjoy a visit. We had a child with us and the menu had several items she likes.
This place was excellent. They had the crispy fried flounder with apricot sauce, that we used to get at Garibaldi’s in Charleston decades ago. We were discussing this and our server said it was the same chef. We were floored!! This is a hidden gem. We just happened to be traveling through here. I wish it was still in Charleston!
We were in Newberry for a concert and had dinner at Steven’s. Service and atmosphere were quite nice.
Good food, good service, convenient location (across the street from the Opera House)
We have been here several times and it never disappoints. Atmosphere is quaint , service is always top notch and the food is always cooked to perfection . We are never rushed and it’s worth the trip from Irmo for a special dinner out .
We were extremely disappointed when we received our bills. Our waitress, Candy, was outstanding, but she neglected to advise us of the prices of the specials, and we didn't ask for all of them. Give the prices so people don't leave with a negative taste in their mouth. The flounder was $35 - outrageous!
everything was great except noise level made it difficult to carry on a conversation
Very good waitress, great cosmo, salad a little ovetdrrssed
Over the years, my wife and I have always go at least once to Steven W’s when we have tickets the Newberry Opera House. The ambiance, food and service have always exceeded our expectations. We recommend it highly to anyone who wants to have a truly enjoyable dining experience.
Birthday celebration for both the husband and I was a great experience. Good fun and service followed by Happy Birthday written on our dessert plate.
Superb food, service and value! Love this place!!
entree and presentation was very good The caesar salad was disappointing desert was excellent but did not have expresso coffee
