Sterling's Seafood Steakhouse at Silver Legacy Resort Casino Ratings and Reviews
We normally visit Reno and Sterlings 4-5 times per year. In the past the service and food have been excellent. Although our group was larger this time, 8 people, we decided to make reservations at Sterlings. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The Service was a not up to the usual standard, waiter seemed a little confused and not too organized, may have been new. In addition the rack of lamb, which has been wonderful in the past, was not good. It was at least 50% fat. Also our baked potatoes were cold. No one in our group was impressed.
We hope this is not now the new standard for Sterlings!
New Year's Eve...obviously they were very busy. Only the two of us, so I believe we were forgotten for awhile to accommodate large tables. However, our waiter (Sergio?), and the maître d', made sure we were taken care of by filling our wine glasses at no charge as well as our sides at no charge. Wife's filet and lobster were wonderful and my filet was perfect. As always, we enjoy Sterling's Seafood Steakhouse.
Reno is a strange little town. The downtown area is not very inviting, but once inside the Silver Legacy, I felt more comfortable. The steakhouse is really a gem - traditional steakhouse fare, great food and amazingly attentive service. Wine list is really great - got the Groth Cab and had filet mignon with Bernaise. All very good.
This past visit was the second in a month. Had the bone in ribeye which was cooked perfectly and delicious. Friends had the daily special which they reported was tasty as well as presented wonderfully. I used to frequent Another restaurant in the El Dorado and switched over to Sterlings.
My wife and I went out of town for a couple of days, something we never do. After hearing great things from a couple of local residents, we decided to have a nice dinner at Sterling's. We were treated very well, and the food was excellent. The wine we were served was a different vintage than the one we ordered, but it was fine. We were made to feel as though we were the only table in the place, the service was fantastic.
A great special occasion restaurant. Not cheap, but you get excellence by paying for it. Food was wonderful. My wife says her lamb may have been the best she has ever had and she is Greek and loves her lamb. Every course of the special Christmas meal was outstanding. Service was excellent. Five stars!
The food was just okay. I was very excited to try the French onion soup (my favorite soup), but it tasted like bland broth, not rich and dark. I had the filet and my husband had the filet and lobster. Nothing memorable about those. It was extremely loud, so it was hard to have a conversation. Service was great though! I’ve tried every steakhouse in Reno and Harrahs steakhouse is by far my favorite and much more quiet and romantic for date nights, so I’ll stick to them.
The food was great the service was okay our waiter felt like he was being rushed we asked to have split tabs and management said he couldn't accommodate however then we asked if we could have two separate bills of a party of 8 then he said yes I was upset that he didn't offer something else and just flat out said that they couldn't do that other than that everything was great.
We have dined at Sterling's many times so expected the same service and quality of food we have had there. It was a very quiet evening, only 2 other tables, in our section. Water and hot bread served by the busser as soon as we were seated. Waiter came over after we'd been seated several minutes later and I ordered a glass of wine. We asked about specials, deciding if I wanted the salmon or a steak. I asked him what the side vegetables were. He said, "brocolli, cauliflower, carrots". Wine was served. We ordered the bone in ribeye and filet, medium rare. Our salads were served shortly after. My ribeye was served warm, not hot, cooked to order but had a strong bacon flavor to it as if it had been cooked in bacon grease. Husband had the filet and he, too, said the same thing about the temp and bacon flavor. The side vegetables were brussel sprouts and a couple of beets served room temp. I do not like brussel sprouts and would have changed the side had I known. Waiter soon disappeared and did not check back at our table. I eventually stopped the host/manager for more beets and another glass of wine. At the point the host was bringing the beets and wine the waiter walked up attempting to be funny. (annoying). After we finished what we could, I stopped the busser and asked for a to-go box and dessert menu. It seems the busser told the waiter we asked for the dessert menu because he finally came back to our table. We ordered ice cream and I asked for hot carmel sauce. Waiter was quick to tell me that they did NOT have hot carmel sauce..however, I did read on the menu that there was a hot caramel sauce. We finished the ice cream and was looking around for our waiter, again. We had to stop the hostess just to get our check. This was not at all the class of service we have always had and certainly not the value we expected either from Sterlings. The busser was the only one that paid any attention to us. It will be awhile before we go back.
Amazing service, Gary is a gracious host and fantastic ambassador of the Silver Legacy. The wine list is second to none. The desserts are crafted to not only a very sweet treat but a culinary work of art. The steaks are the best, aged perfectly, cooked perfectly, and are savory. Sterling's is a stop I make several times a year and worth every trip as well as every penny.
We had an anniversary dinner here that was wonderful. Our waiter, Sergio, was extremely helpful in helping us with our selections of dinner and wines. We had lobster tail and a special which was a pepper steak with a balsamic vinegar reduction with strawberry glace and three succulent scallops. Both dinners were excellent. As a special occasion, we were truly made to feel very special by everyone from the receptionist to the maître 'de. Truly a great experience.
We used to eat here for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and select holidays (usually Thanksgiving). We had 2017 Thanksgiving dinner here and it was a big dissappointment. We had not eaten there for about a year and were suprised to have lousy service and the quality of the food and preparation had fallen from previous times. After being seated it took about 15-minutes for anyone to take our drink orders. The entire meal was spent trying to get the waiters attention. I had the filet and it was not as good quality and much smaller than on previous visits. My advice is to eat somewhere else. We regretted taking special friends with us for dinner here. Never again.
Never disappointed. We live in Spokane Wa and come here once a year during our visits to the Reno Air Races or while in our California home and passing through Reno. The casinos may have all seen better days, but this restaurant remains consistent with high quality food, upscale atmosphere and excellent service. Chateaubriand for two with the included house salad and a nice bottle of well priced Ferrari-Carano Cabernet. (The owners of the winery now own this and many other casinos!)
I raved to my date how salads and fabulous desserts are prepared . He just moved here from Newport Beach, Ca. Bought a home in Incline .
He's never eaten at any Restuarants in Reno, Sterlings was my suggestion of three. He selected based on the prep table side.
Our server stated they were "too busy " which was a let down. I know Phillip would of never done this.
We felt slighted a bit.
Sterling’s has really come a long way over the years. They have definitely stepped it up a bit on their plating and a very welcome upgrade to the dessert menu. Sterling’s has always been a great restaurant and seems always to be a bit better each time we go.
