Stephen's on State
The host (possible Manager or owner) was not friendly when seating customers. One of our two $50 steaks was overcooked. We ordered med-rare and got med-well. We chose to not say anything. We left a 20% tip, the waiter was polite and attentive. We will be going back but should a food temp issue arise again we will say something and hope the host/manager would be polite with the concern.
I always have the Chicken Stephen. It was not nearly as good as usual. The chicken breast was over butchered. My fiance had the seafood alfredo and it had no flavor. Next time he will stick with his usual steak. Our server Debbie was excellent.
Thanks food is always good and the service is always amazing and welcoming
Would not recommend. Worst dining experience I can remember. Good over cooked, re-heated. Service was just as bad. Complete waste of time and money.
I was pleasantly pleased at the total atmosphere and the braod selection of food. I dine out quite frequently, so I'll be coming back again.
FYI, cooks: lay off the salt please! (:
The weather was overcast and muggy, decided to go to Stephen's for dinner, had a wonderful waiter, excellent food, a quiet table near the front window - ended up to be a beautiful evening.
Bacon wrapped scallops delicious, three special halibut with pineapple salsa wasn't worth the price, kind of dry and the flavors didn't pair well with parmesan risotto.
The restaurant is extremely loud. We couldn't even hear our waiter tell us the specials, but he was so great, he moved us to the back room before we could even ask. Dan was our waiter and he was the best. If I went back to Stephen's, I would ask for him.
Don't go on Wednesday-street is a mob scene. Very good steak
It was a nice evening outside for "dinner under the stars".
Was closed due to fire. Notification would have been nice
Excellent food and service EVERY time I go here. Do not miss this place.
They had a great dinner tonight, my server was awesome and the food was delicious!
Server was great, value was good. Used a Groupon but will return. Get the Mac and cheese!
Great time on Wednesday for Dining under the stars with friends. Too hot outside so went to the bar first then got our table. Happy hour buy one get one. Dinner was awesome. Server was excellent. Will be going back.
Great food and service. Always interesting specials and great drinks.
Fun fun fun
Spent a quiet birthday with my mother and sister and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Stephen's never disappoints.
I went to lunch to celebrate a friends birthday. I made a reservation, which was not necessary because there was only two other patrons (that should have been my first clue). The service was good & timely. I ordered a spinach salad. It arrived incomplete, missing the blue cheese topping and all other ingredients were scarce - few nuts, few cranberries, almost no apples. Definitely not exciting or tasty enough to make me want to return.
Stephen's on State had a nice atmosphere, the wait staff was friendly and the food was yummy! Would definitely head back to try more of the menu.
Delicious steaks and crabcakes! The moscow mule rocked! We will be back!
Noise from the bar was overwhelming in the dining area and it was too dark to see the menus. Food was good and service staff was attentive.
The food was good. It is more expensive than the average restaurant. There is no private parking. We parked at a metered lot a block away. It was on a Sunday so as far as I could tell we didn't need to pay for the meter.
Excellent filet mignon. Also enjoyed the green beans and mashed. Clean my plate
We did not find the food to be all that interesting. What really shaped the experience was when the waiter brought the credit card receipt but no pen, then as we were leaving he accused me if stealing his pen. His snarky comment of "it's ok, you can keep my pen" shocked us a bit.
Just not as good as we had before. Everyone was nice and attentive but the food was just not as appetizing as we expected in comparison to our previous visit
We have been to Stevens frequently and in the past have enjoyed our experience there. We were there celebrating an early Father’s Day and our waitress could not have been less interested in our dining experience. We were set in the back in the room alone they were servers who were cleaning up table cloths and silverware and putting settings together . We have been to Stevens before but have noticed a decline in service. We were there celebrating an early Father’s Day and our waitress could not have been less interested in our dining experience. We were sat in the back in the room and the whole time other servers were cleaning up tablecloth’s and silverware and putting together places settings . Our server only checked on us once never again acknowledging that we were with our children and clearly we were celebrating .
We dined on a Saturday night at 7:30, the place was not full and initially it was nice and quiet. As the bar got busy and the DJ began playing music, it became much louder as the noise moved from the bar into the dining area, but after asking to lower the volume of the music, we were still able to hold a conversation. The steak was excellent, well prepared and well seasoned. The chicken pot pie, had a delicious crust. The fish was also excellent. We were disappointed in the time it took for the food to arrive, and despite the restaurant not being busy, it took us many hours to dine. At the end of our meal we asked to take home the surplus food but unfortunately it was tossed out instead of wrapped. In the end the waitress did accommodate us with some food to take home and a gift certificate for the next visit- very kind of her and we know we all make mistakes. I will return because the steak was excellent and hope the service is a little faster next time.
Outside dining was a great experience.
It was a nice evening eating outside and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Younger kids no...older yes. My daughter has Asperger's and it's one of her favorite places. I've tried many foods not on my list of things I eat and am always please that I experimented. An all around favorite place.
our fault we chose to sit inside in the window seat area. Band was playing and really loud. We couldn't talk until they took a break. Next time will sit outside for dining under stars.
The server was excellent and very accommodating ! Food arrival was slow. At first the music from the bar area was obnoxiously loud! But luckily they stopped playing and could enjoy the conversation at the table.
We Dine there on Saturday evening June 2nd at 7. The service was poor even though the restaurant was not busy at that time. Our appetizer with baked clams came back burnt and tasted and chewed like rubber. Or waitress Mary disappeared for long periods of time twice we had to get up to see the hostess for service. We were very disappointed because this was not our first time it Stephens we've been there before and enjoyed ourselves, but this time was really disappointing. I hope you take measures to make sure this does not happen again.
Always good food, but I would not recommend the calamari
This was my first time at Stephen’s on State and I was not disappointed. The food was fantastic- on par with Center City steakhouses and our server Tom was so sweet and attentive. Seated at a table looking out on State St. for Dining Under the Stars. Tom made sure my friend (who’s 8 months pregnant) was comfortable. Definitely go to Stephen’s!!
Waiter had a little attitude. Was shocked at the prices of the specials. One I asked about was 49 dollars. Baked clams were very good. Crab cakes are no good
The food was very good but we made the mistake of ordering the specials without asking the price and my husband Almost passed out when he realized his Filet mignon was $49 on the bill! Everything is Ala cart so with our two salads ,two meals, a beer and one mixed drink was $128. I had 4 stuffed shrimp over a bed of risotto and that was $35- our waiter was excellent and very polite and the bread was actually very good we got
Best steak after Barclay Prime!
Suggested this place for a dinner with a large contributor. Food and service were great but the noise level was totally unsatisfactory. They had some kind of comedy routine in the bar area and the crowd was too loud. They should advise dinner guests at the time of reservations that a show was [planned during dinner time.
