Stella Barra Pizzeria - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Overall we had a nice time. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was outstanding, but the burrata appetizer was just ok. We ordered 2 pizzas; the Margarita which was just ok, and the Avocado & Arugula topped with an egg, which was outstanding.
The pizzas have a LOT of crust which is tasteless by itself. We asked for a side of the red sauce to dip the crust into, which was good. Without it, we would have just left the crust. How much plain crust, with no toppings can you eat??
Dessert was amazing; we had the butterscotch creme brulee.
I really enjoyed Stella Barra. We arrived for our reservation and it was clear this restaurant was very popular. We did have a bit of a wait to get seated, but the bartenders were quick to get us a glass of wine while we waited. When we were sat, our server was friendly and explained the menu. We were able to do a half and half pizza and we loved it! Our server even gracious comp'd some of our wine. Will definitely come back here!
The food was AMAZING! Highly recommend the brussels sprouts appetizer and the pizza was outstanding. Our only issue was that we had to wait 40 minutes even though we had a reservation. This was poor customer service, they should know how many reservations they can take and not overbook.
Edgardo was absolutely outstanding, knowledgeable and extremely helpful and gave us a free dessert to help us celebrate our exciting news of having a new addition to our family 10/10 would go just to see him. Best service I have had in Chicago from a server.
The pizza was not good. Crust was fine. But the red sauce tasted like tomatoe paste and the cheese had a horrible texture. Pizza was also served room temperature. Mediocre at best. Go to Scappa Napoli, Eataly or Antica Pizzeria for pizza. Come here from a lively ambience and a drink.
Went for brunch and the food was very good. However, they advertise their breakfast pizzas as a part of the buffet but they unfortunately are not on the Buffett. Also, the staff does a good job of servicing the buffet on the back side from a food standpoint but many times on the front there weren't utensils to grab the dishes you wanted. Had to use the same spoon practically for the whole buffet.
The case of Missing Toppings
Firstly, the good...the service was excellent.
Our waiter Peter, was knowledgeable, accommodating and efficient.
We ordered the crispy calamari. It was neither crispy nor very tasty. The Large Leaf Arugula Salad was tasty but not nearly enough to share, which was explained to us by the waiter as one of the selling points regarding the restaurant style of serving.
Now, for the pizza, it was half ORGANIC SAUSAGE & SHAVED FENNEL and half BRAISED BACON & AGED FONTINA. The pizza consisted of mostly bread with a small selection of toppings. Don't be fooled by some of the photos shown on Yelp as they are property of the restaurant and therefore staged.
The wine list is ridiculously expensive, the wines prices start at $38.
Overall experience is that this restaurant is overpriced for the quality of the food they sell.
Next time, we’ll go to Capri, a block or so south of Stella. This is not one of Lettuce's best.
