Stella Barra - North Bethesda
The Market counter, shared with Summer House, serves a selection of fresh-baked pastries, sourdough English muffins and Chef Jeff Mahin’s famous cookies, along with locally sourced coffee and specialty espresso drinks.
The brunch is one of the best on Rockville Pike... Now Pike and Rose is considered North Bethesda. Rare mix of Mex-italian flavor s.
Would be good to see a do it your self Bloody Mary bar again, but the barman put together a second to none Mary!
We were a bit irked at first that we had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation, but it was a holiday and we were really hungry. The buffet (it was 2:00 by the time we were seated) was excellent. Awesome French toast among many choices. We left comply sated!
Food was superb! Do get the starter of grilled Brussel sprouts - new and delicious flavors! The thin crust pizzas were a winner. Two of our party were gluten free - they had many choices. Wine list was so-so, but adequate. We are definitely returning.
Food was great! And the servers were kind when they were around but it seemed their service was a bit slow.
We truly enjoyed our dining experience. We were there for a birthday celebration (the entire family). There were 4 adults and 2 children, 1 of which was a baby. The corner booth worked very well. Our grand daughter made her own pizza (Chef Dave was wonderful with her) and she really enjoyed eating her own creation. We had the wings and a giant meatball as appetizers and several choices of pizza....all wonderful. We will go back!
I’ve been to Stella Barra several times for brunch. The buffet is a good value for the great food. This visit, however, I was very disappointed in the experience. Knowing it’s often busy, I made a reservation for 12 pm for two people. We arrived on time and waited a whopping 45 minutes before our table was ready. We saw tables open throughout our wait, and watched the hostess seat several groups who walked in after us. What’s the point of offering a reservation when you can’t honor it? And in the end, we were sat at a table that had been sitting empty for 30 minutes while we waited. Incomprehensible. The waiter we had, however, was very attentive. May not return for a long time.
Amazes me that management will not politely tell a loud table to quiet down when obviously disturbing other diners.
Great deal on the weekend brunch buffet!
Great Kale salad and the pizza crust is amazing! Tried a white pizza for first time it was really good. Maya the manager was so nice to us!
Appetizers are very good. White pizza so so...and make your own. Thin crust was good. Great service... nice folks
Server was very attentive and friendly, and so was all the staff we interacted with! My son loves to watch pizza chefs, and they were so engaging and fun, and my son got to make his own pizza! He kept going back to the “bar” to hangout and watch and learn. Cool pizza dough flipping tricks! Soon other staff were meeting him, too. Pizza is amazing!! ... we’ll be back!
Fantastic place with great food! It's our go-to breakfast stop on Sundays...the buffet is high quality and consistent. Truly a neighborhood gem!
I love their pizzas and calamari. We got the garlic Parmesan wings this time. They were very good. I’ve been for happy hour which is nice, but no more burrata and jam on their menu. l’ve also been for the brunch buffet which is fairly priced. The only glitch was that our waitperson did not come back to check on us so I never got to order a glass of wine with my pizza.
Food was not the best at all. Really a disappointment from the last time I was there. Eggs were flavorless and soggy and the sausage gravy was beyond think and too spicy. Bacon was soaked in grease and the biscuit were hard as a rock. Plus it took a few minutes for someone to figure out who’s table we were :/
Impressive brunch, especially considering it's a buffet. Good quality, great value and service.
Reservatin but had 15min wait. Table was brojen, had to get up while mgr fixed it.
We were in town for a soccer tournament and on our way back to NJ and we decided to stop here for brunch. We scored big time and definitely did not disappoint. Fantastic brunch options, from eggs Benedict, homemade biscuits, delicious potatoes, to cinnamon roll french toast, salmon, enchiladas, yogurt,etc... and here is the kicker....$18.99. A MUST Try if you are there on a Sunday. We also had one of their thin crust Pizza's and it was A-M-A-ZING!! Oh, and let's not forget the happy hour $3.00 bottle beers, $4- $5 wines, mimosas, Bellini and $20 bottles of wine. Needless to say I was totally impressed and wished I had this near me in NJ. Go, don't wait and request one of the tables with couches, they are the best!!
Went for their brunch buffet and wasn't disappointed. The cinnamon roll bread pudding was delicious and we were all stuffed to the brim. Service wasn't anything super special but the staff were friendly and didn't mind us taking our time, even on a busy Sunday brunch.
We really enjoyed the food and service was great! Fresh ingredients definitely make all the difference. Drinks are a little pricey.
Dark & cold atmosphere. Music (rap) just screamed for me to leave. Was looking for a relaxing brunch out. It was anything but that. Food was so-so way over priced. The tea was totally gross.
fabulous atmosphere...delicious gluten free options. ❤️
Wonderful food, great music, nice bar area with 3 large tvs, and exceptional staff.
uppity and uninterested workers. No manager walking around to check service or customers dining experience. a place where they are just trying too hard to be "cool."
Stella Barra is definitely a place to go to when you want a nice place to sit and eat pizza. The ambiance is always romantic as the lights are always dimmed. Service is great with the right server but some servers are a bit lacking. Otherwise, food is always excellent. Their brunch is great, their pizza is awesome and their Brussels sprouts are a MUST.
Sunday brunch buffet - food was delicious, if you catch it. The stations were frequently empty with slow refills. More often than not, the were no clean plates available. And good luck trying to order a drink. Service was few and far between and it took thirty minutes just to get a cup of coffee.
My family and I are always in awe of the staff at Stella Barre. We will continue to come back because the staff are so personable.
Our server was okay. She seemed distracted or hurried.
It took at least 7 min to be acknowledge by the waitress. The food wasn’t that great. They ran out of things and took a while to refill. People in the back (workers) were arguing. I noticed a lot of people complained about their food and the waitress kept having to give them a gift card because they weren’t happy. I came for my moms birthday. Wasn’t what I expected
For a restaurant that primarily serves pizza, the pizza was just bad, the sauce tasted like it came out of a can, acidic with no flavor. We also ordered the calamari, which was bland and not properly seasoned or cooked.
We came here to eat dinner, so I can honestly say that this was very disappointing experience. On a positive note - the ambiance was fun and I could see how one would enjoy coming for drinks, but stay away from the food.
Had such a great experience -- we needed to modify our reservation twice, and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Our food was great, and our waiter was perfect -- gave us exactly what we needed when we needed it without be intrusive.
Service was good until it got busy. Way too dark to see the menus. Parking around Pike & Rose is not very good. But the pizza was good.
Good food, even better service
Really good pizza, nice wine selection , great Happy Hour specials.
Great but the restaurant was very dark
Really good pizza. The gluten free option was shockingly good. We were there on a Tuesday and got the table with a couch which was very cozy on a date. Wait staff were very helpful and responsive
Very nice ambiance and great pizza. The only thing is the when asked if the juice was natural, waiter said yes, but no, juices were not natural. Perhaps if he is not sure, he should ask somebody else about it
Went to their weekend brunch on Bethesda restaurant week. Really terrific; nice different spins on brunch classics.
The pizza was terrific when the restaurant first opened. This time service was slow, although the restaurant was not full. And my husband's pizza arrived cold and he said it was just okay. Mine was good but we likely will not be back any time soon.
I want to like this place so badly. Their sister restaurant next door is SO good, but Stella is overpriced, meh pizza. The calamari was good and their tomato sauce is pretty good too. Both pizzas we got, however, were greasy. The thin crust was so thin with so few toppings that it amounted to an $18 cracker with tomato sauce. The salumi was good for the first few bites but we both felt that heavy belly feeling after just a few slices because it was so greasy. Fancy $15+ single serving pies should not be dripping. They just shouldn't be. While ours were basically ok, I noticed several other tables with over-done pizzas, burnt bottoms (like black). Look, the food is not the worst. But it could be SO much better.
