In Milton, Steel & Rye is a heritage piece of the community created in a converted garage that pays tribute to the neighborhood�s history of agriculture and industry. Steel & Rye is serving up an original set of dishes inspired by the industrial interior design of the restaurant and Americana past of the community.
The menu changes daily at Steel & Rye. Guests are encouraged to check in often for new dishes. Some possible options are wood roasted island clams, a charcuterie board, house made saffron rotini pasta in Bolognese or buttermilk fried chicken. Wood fired pizzas and desserts along with a take away and brunch menu are also available.
S&R continues to be my favorite restaurant around, near or far!
We had a very nice meal at Steel and Rye. We were originally seated in a very tight space near a larger party with small children. We asked to be moved to a quieter spot and they accommodated.
The food was excellent. The appetizer portions were very small. There was only 3 very small pieces of octopus in the octopus salad for example.
Overall the wait staff was good once they figured out that we had moved from another table.
I will go back.
We went here for our second anniversary and, as always, had a marvelous time. They had a last cancellation at the special open kitchen seating and we were really excited to sit there. Our service was impeccable, the meal well-paced and delicious, and they even threw in a special dessert. We always have a fun time here, whether it is for brunch, snacks and cocktails at the bar, or a fancy meal. We will definitely be back.
This was a gathering of 11 old friends that are from the city, western suburbs and south shore that have not seen each other for quite some time. For a group or size the staff took excellent care of us. The meals arrived at the same time and were prepared perfectly. Everyone was pleased. We lingered at the table after desert and the staff continued to take care of us. We will be back soon.
We went to celebrate a special occasion. The food was delicious as always. Service was excellent. Bill was pricey, but it's not a surprise.
Great spot, really enjoyed all parts of the meal. Very cool decor, wonderful variety in menu but not too much and overwhelming. Will absolutely be back.
This wasn't our first time here, Steel and Rye never disappoints! The service is excellent, food amazing, and a great selection of drinks. We celebrated our 12th anniversary there and enjoyed a nice quiet dinner outside. It was perfect. Thank you for the excellent dinning experience!
First time and really enjoyed it. We don't live nearby, but we'll be back to sample some more great food and wine
We were a group of 7, with a couple with hearing issues - the staff was friendly and helpful about rearranging a table that was less intensely noisy, and even turned off a speaker that was over the table. The ambiance was great - spacious - no-frills ingeniously repurposed industrial. The brunch/lunch food (re-imagined Eggs Benedict and Corned Beef Hash, an incredible Blue-Fish Toast) desserts (Peach Cake!!), and wine were outstanding. Support service was fine, though perhaps our particular wait-person was learning on the job.
We love Steel and Rye, and got to enjoy it once again on a recent Saturday night. It was quieter than usual and we even got to sit outside on the patio. Food consistently good as always, great service, got to say hello to Dan the owner who is a wonderful host.
The hamburger was very good although it should have come with lettuce and tomato. The fresh squeezed OJ was delicious.
We had a great experience. I got a call a few days before our reservation to confirm and to ask if I needed anything special. They set aside space at the pizza bar, and we had a great time watching the pizza get made. The drinks are top notch, the atmosphere is great, and the service is excellent. Highly recommended.
We have been to steel and rye before and we were excited to come back for our engagement celebration so we made reservations. This will be our last time here. Dinner started with us waiting 15 minutes for the specials when our waiter showed up we could barely hear him he was so soft spoken and never even told us his name. After it took another 15 for our orders to be taken. The food was great but he took our drink glasses and never asked if we wanted more drinks. It wasn't until after we finished our appetizer and meal that we had to ask the bus girl if she could get us drinks we had waited for at least 20-30 minutes before we asked her. Our waiter never even came by to ask if we liked our meals. He finally showed up with dessert menus without asking if we wanted dessert or the check. At that rate I was so annoyed we went elsewhere for dessert. We saw him 3 times in almost an hour and a half. I know people always say sometimes it's the kitchens fault this time the food was great and we didn't wait long for the food it was the waiter. It would've been nice to have some interaction with our waiter.
Food was good as usual. Service has been quite slow lately, though. We waited almost 15 minutes for a drink and the waitress was not very attentive. Only came to the table a few times even though it was a rather quiet night. We requested to sit indoors as it was hot outside. For some reason, the door to the patio was open, and the room inside was a warm outside. Not a good experience.
This was a second visit. After the first visit we agreed that appetizers and desserts were quite good, but the entrees left something to be desired (the small plates looked interesting, but we chose none--and that was perhaps an error: appetizers and small plates might well have amounted to a much more happy eating experience.). This view was reinforced by our recent visit. Service was excellent, ambiance was fine. Wine selection seemed good--our wine choice was very good. Appetizers offered many choices and were quite good; this time desserts were not as attractive as the previous time, but e all had sorbet (apricot) and thought it outstanding. Between us we had three different entrees: presentation was striking, but not so the content--and the entrée choices were very limited, especially in contrast to appetizers and small plates. After our first visit, we said we would like to comeback, and avoid the entrees--we do not know why we did not adhere to that plan. In all likelihood we will try the restaurant again, and select appetizers and small plates, and we would recommend the restaurant with these caveats.

Appetizer (octopus) a bit too chewy, but tasty. Striped bass delicious.
Wine -- a northern Italian red -- was moderately priced and a good pairing with our meal.
We didn't have a dessert.
Food was excellent, but the portions were small and the prices high.
Delicious every time. The service was great. The coffee went well with our pancakes. We always have a good time.
The pasta appetizer was awkward to share and too al dente, shouldn't be an app. Wait staff tried to corner me into picking apart the bus staffs service and seemed disappointed I wouldn't bite. Otherwise it was pretty good, I want to come back to try the pizza. Good N.A. beer. I like the location.
First time @ S&R. Pleasant location, beautiful dining room, terrific staff, delicious food. One quibble; the door to the patio was left open, leaving the dining room affected by flies and warm, humid air. If I'm going to sweat when I eat, I might as well be at a bar-b-q, not fine dining.
One of my favorite spots. Great staff, hands-on-management, and excellent food and cocktails. Wood fired pizza oven is a nice addition. Highly recommended.
Best restaurant in the greater Boston area
Unfortunately this last experience at Steel and Rye was not pleasant at all.
While sitting at our high top table, a group of bus boys/servers/water boys stared at me for an extended period of time unapologetically. Even after I asked our waitress to have them come over and talk to me if they had questions or wanted to talk to me, they ceased to stop staring and talking to other Steel and Rye staff about me.
I am a woman with rather short hair and was with my partner. I am guessing it was a slow enough night for these kids to stare and snicker to each other at my discomfort. Mind you I have what I consider a high threshold for being stared at and looked at and I reached my point of having to say something, this is something I rarely, rarely do.
The manager tried to explain that they meant no harm, but this was blatant behavior. When I looked back at them as if to say, I know you are staring at me, they didn't seem to care and continued on.
We ended up leaving, not able to finish our dinner or drinks.
We will not recommend this establishment to anyone that is gay/lesbian or different in any shape or form.
Too bad, we live close and used to go there on a regular basis. Now we, nor our friends will be patrons there any longer and I will spread the word.
To the boys...hope you got your fill , it will be last time you see my mug in your restaurant.

Steel & Rye was a bit underwhelming. Great location and very "hip" spot, but with that comes everything you would expect from a typical place like this; over-priced drinks and very small portions. They apparently change their menu often (or we were told so by our waiter) so don't bother looking up food online because you probably won't have the option to chose what people have been posting (we certainly didn't), however, the burger was actually really good. The front desk staff were very accommodating and pleasant, but it felt like our wait staff was rushing us out the door before we even received our apps. Given we are in the Greater Boston area I probably won't return, as there are better options but it was nice to give this place a try.

Wonderful experience from start to finish—the waitstaff even brought out the birthday candle I'd requested with dessert in the reservation without having to remind them! Food was incredible, cocktails were creative, and the service couldn't have been better. Highly recommended.
Food was good. Service a bit slow for some reason. Waited almost ten minutes for a drink although was no traffic in the restaurant.
The minute I walked in I felt at home, the staff was courteous and friendly. I had been looking forward to coming here for a while and it truly did not disappoint. I look forward to returning for dinner!
My husband had been thinking of the chilaquiles for a couple weeks and was thrilled that they were still on the brunch menu. Although the new-ish pork belly was good, he preferred the more abundant chicken of the previous recipe. I had the ricotta pancakes (delicious) and a side of perfectly cooked bacon. One thing could have been better. I wanted iced coffee (I seem to remember having outstanding iced coffee at S&R in the past), but none was available. We were eating outside and iced would have been much better.
Server was very accommodating of the rigorous dietary limitations at the table. Very attentive, friendly staff. Menu was a bit strange and could be bigger. Coffee was subpar. Ambience was open and airy and lively.
Celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary (quiet table for two in nook) with great, and different, food: crispy duck wings and gnocchetti accompanied by great wines. Excellent ganache Desert. Service was pleasant and timely.

Waitress trying too hard to push us to buy a bottle of wine we clearly indicated was unwanted. She recommended a dessert that was “amazing” and her “favorite”, but it turned out being hard, dry sugar coated Dunkin’ Donuts Holes(tm) sitting in a small puddle of runny sour lemon yogurt. We got the burgers, which we usually get. They were burnt on the outside and over cooked. Restaurant was full of mostly young families and empty by 8:30. That was our last visit.
Great dinner as always. Steel & Rye always gets it right!
We went to Steel & Rye on our Friday night "date night" for a special treat. The food and service were excellent as usual.

Phenomenal food and service! Great teamwork. Very unique decor, drinks and food choices. They just added pizza on the menu and the Margherita one was awesome. Can't wait to go back
We keep coming back to Steel and Rye for special occasions. This time, our college son treated his dad for Father's Day. New pizza oven/eating zone, seasonal menu change, all good. For the menfolk, the large burgers, the best fresh pickles and round potato "chips". For mom, the most amazing rye (yes, rye) gnochetti pasta with peas, smoked pork. Another winner from the chef. For dessert, chocolate ganache, cherry covered white chocolate and ice cream. Husband loved the ale from .... Chelsea!
Steel and Rye was one of my favorite restaurants. However, on Saturday night before Fathers day the kitchen was falling apart. The meal took over 1.5 hours to arrive. Server made a great effort, but the support teams including the kitchen were complete failures. Our previous visit contained signs of the same slow kitchen....we wrote that off as a one time issue....now I am not so sure.
Steele and Rye us one of our favorite local restaurants. The food is always great and the service is excellent. We love the open floor layout.
