About Steamworks Gastown
Since we first opened in 1995, Steamworks has been a favourite of Vancouver locals and visitors alike. Whether you're joining us for lunch, a drink after work, or a group dinner with friends and colleagues, we're honoured to have you with us.
Steamworks gets its name from the famous Gastown steam line that runs through our premises. Our onsite brewery uses steam to fire its kettles. The instant heat of steam allows for greater brewing finesse, and most importantly great tasting beer. Whether you're in the mood for a thirst quenching Lions Gate® lager, or a full bodied HeriocaTM Oatmeal Stout, we've got a beer to please your palate.

Steamworks Gastown Ratings and Reviews
Our night was amazing . You have the ability through the app to share what your celebrating. But no acknowledgement of that until we asked our server (waitress)about what options for one celebrating their birthday. The waitress was dis interested in us from the moment we sat down. All after she took our drink orders and app order. She was like food order now.. we were enjoying time with friends from toyko we wanted to take our time and chat which felt a little rush. But food and drinks were great.
I went for the ten-tap sampler ($21.99), but it turns out they have a policy of not selling this to one person. But my server was willing to work around this rule by bringing out one four-tap sampler ($8.49 each) at a time. (They didn't have the summer ale nor Commonwealth ale at the time.) I enjoyed trying out each of the quarter-pint glasses of different brews while reading the beer notes on the menu to understand what kind of malts and hops go into each one. I'm grateful that my server knew how to maximize my tasting experience despite some odd company rules. (I am not driving in Vancouver, so it seems like a weird rule.)
The fish & CHips were cod at halibut prices. A reasonable portion of fish, but small portion of chips. A small amount of bland coleslaw. Service was reasonably fast to cater to quick turnover. The food was just over fast food in quality/presentation but overpriced. Other brewpubs sell beer at very good prices, but not here. Premium price for their own beer. Tourist trap prices but have a lot of locals. Second visit, the burger was not excitable either.
Canibal Cafe has closed so the quest for good food/beer near the water will lead me to try Mahoney and Tap & Cask as they are within a five minute walk.
The food was pretty decent and the service started out great but after we had our food the server seemed to disappear. Great location next to the train station ideal for commuters out to the suburbs. The bench seat at the window was extremely uncomfortable and too high for the table. I ended up with a kink in my neck trying to sit properly. They should pull out the benches and simply use chairs.
The only thing wrong with our dinner was the service. It took our waiter a long time to get to our table after we first sat down. We ordered beer and dinner. I had the steak salad which was actually quite tasty but I had to wait and ask someone else for a steak knife. There was no way I was going to cut through it with a butter knife. My son was finished his fish tacos and I was almost done my salad and the waiter brought our water to the table. We had to wait a long time for my sons dessert and to pay. Someone else saw us waiting and helped us pay. Improve the service and we'd come back.
