About Steamworks Gastown
Since we first opened in 1995, Steamworks has been a favourite of Vancouver locals and visitors alike. Whether you're joining us for lunch, a drink after work, or a group dinner with friends and colleagues, we're honoured to have you with us.
Steamworks gets its name from the famous Gastown steam line that runs through our premises. Our onsite brewery uses steam to fire its kettles. The instant heat of steam allows for greater brewing finesse, and most importantly great tasting beer. Whether you're in the mood for a thirst quenching Lions Gate® lager, or a full bodied HeriocaTM Oatmeal Stout, we've got a beer to please your palate.

Steamworks Gastown Ratings and Reviews
The only thing wrong with our dinner was the service. It took our waiter a long time to get to our table after we first sat down. We ordered beer and dinner. I had the steak salad which was actually quite tasty but I had to wait and ask someone else for a steak knife. There was no way I was going to cut through it with a butter knife. My son was finished his fish tacos and I was almost done my salad and the waiter brought our water to the table. We had to wait a long time for my sons dessert and to pay. Someone else saw us waiting and helped us pay. Improve the service and we'd come back.
A fun atmosphere, GREAT service and a wide range of unique beer choices. Better than average bar type food....the mussels were by far the best food choice made by our dining party. We enjoyed them along with a garlic bread side to soak up the delicious broth! Their Blackberry Bramble is my new favorite cocktail...love those branded cherries!
Met colleagues at Steamworks after work. Great service throughout - never pushy, and always seemed to be there when we needed them. No problem splitting up the bill for us.
We sat downstairs near the kitchen and the vats, the whole atmosphere was great. I definitely recommend it, and will return again.
Got together here for dinner with out-of-town family who were in port to embark on a cruise. It was a great taste-of-Vancouver spot. We really enjoyed the tasting flight of the in-house beers and the good variety of cuisine options. It's definitely a bit loud, but it suits the room. We were seated upstairs next to a waterfront-view window, which was a nice treat for our family who were getting ready to sail. All-in-all we would definitely go back and can't wait to try more of the beer.
Initially impressed as we were 10 mins early for our reservation, but immediately taken to our table in the area of the restaurant we asked for. Service was ok, but we had to actively seek out our server rather than them being attentive. Food was ok, nothing fantastic, but not bad either.
WARNING - the real issue I had with this place is that the server skipped the amount confirmation screen on the credit card machine and selected leave tip, so when he handed me the terminal it was on the % selection screen. I'm not sure if this is legal, but it certainly isn't honest at all. I did't realise at the time, but will be raising this directly with the establishment as well. Looking back I think the server did the same to the couple next to us, as there was some conversation and issue when they were paying by card.
Prompt, friendly and attentive service from the greeters to the wait staff.
Had the lamb burger with house salad. Burger tasted fine but was rather tough and dry.
Would appreciate more choice in non-alcoholic beer. Overall a somewhat positive experience.
It was an amazing experience, with all my friends there. The ambience was perfect for the event. We were given a table near the breweries. The staff was very helpful and nice to us. Few of us were the first timers for the liquor. The staff were very good to us in suggesting on what to start with and their choice was amazing too. I really liked the ambience, the staff and the food there. It worth a try for everyone to be there. I would recommend the chicken wings with the mojito. I would surely recommend all my office friends to conduct next meetups at steam works only.
I booked the table via internet with the special request for a table with a view. Reservation was for one person only. I felt very welcome even though just being a single guest and not a big party. Beer was great with many variations. I could even taste before deciding. Food was fresh and I will try more of it next time.
We loved this restaurant so much we wished we could take it back to Chicago with us. It was a fun, friendly place with great beer, delicious burgers and an apple pie a-la-mode that was out of this world. The prices were reasonable for Vancouver. We ate there twice during our weeklong visit.
I came twice so far in this restaurant. The first time the service was ok, but the food rather poor quality. Mashed potato wasn't homemaded. Even if it used from the package, a litte bit butter or roasted bacon as flavour is very helpful sometimes. This shouldn't itself be a major problem. But this time, where I came with a friend, the food was anything better, but the service lousy. The waiter who provided us with drinks, not even looked in the face and waited almost incidentally. Only the guy who brought us the food was very obliging and friendly. This would definitely contribute to increasing the quality of service in your house.
I met five friends here for lunch. The food was very good and the service was subtle yet effective. Our main focus was to catch up and the servers respected our pace. We all enjoy the craft-brewing options at Steamworks which makes it a great destination.
The proximity to Waterfront Station makes it easily accessible for people travelling on the Expo Line, Canada Line, West Coast Express, Sea Bus, or even by private vehicle. Our group is diverse geographically and Steamworks functions for us all.
It took the hostess too long to give us the table and she gave us the last one in the restaurant, although there were better tables empty. She said because our reservation was not booked through their own system and they save the best tables for those reservations. We finally got a better one but after a good argument.
