-Food ok but overpriced. We were up charged $3.00 to change the starch that came with the dinner
-Server was friendly
-It should not take 2.5 hours for 2 people to have dinner
-although hostess knew it was a birthday dinner, we did not feel we had a special experience.
- we are locals and probably won’t return or recommend. Sorry
Service was sub-par - took a long time to get food, waitress was grouchy and rushed. Expensive for what you get.
Steamship has got to have the best views in town. We had a table on the patio on a windy day. The heaters were set perfectly. No one in our part was cold. Service and food was wonderful!!
Great food, good service. The view off the patio is absolutely incredible.
Was disappointed by this visit, and actually didn’t stay .
Have been to steamship before and liked it a lot . But on this day they were not offering their regular menu, only a buffet. This had not been noted when we made the reservation, the regular menu was shown as available, and noticed when leaving they still had the regular menu outside of the restaurant, but you couldn’t order from it
The place is nice and the view excellent. The little taxi boats did a performance which was an added bonus. We were the earliest reservation (10am) We we’re seated at 9:50 and drinks served immediately. After ten or fifteen minutes the manager came to our table saying the buffet was ready. We lingered at our table an extra five minutes, but when we arrived the buffet was not ready, and the food that was there had no serving utensils. The line behind us grew as we waited for staff to scramble for serving spoons/tongs. A second trip to the buffet revealed additional items had been added and again later even more. We joked that we should stay all day so we could manage to taste everything.
In spite of the shaky start, the food was excellent and the atmosphere excellent. I would recommend to others. Please note that our waitress was pleasant, friendly and efficient and none of the slightly negative aspects of this review reflect upon her.
While we enjoyed our experience at Steamship Grill, we did feel a bit rushed. The entree appeared before one of us was finished our salad and was quickly followed by dessert afterward. We felt we would have liked a short breather between courses. Other wise, we enjoyed our dinner and the creme brûlée was outstanding.
We were anticipating a pleasant experience going in, and were sorely disappointed by the time we left. The food was overpriced for the portions and quality. The "ambience" was not as expected considering its location on the waterfront. In addition, there was constant foot traffic in the aisle which was annoying.
Nice restaurant located close to the Harbor. Noise level made it had to hear. Booth was very uncomfortable (wood). I ordered the steak which was perfectly prepared. I originally asked for mussels which were unavailable. Our waiter was good but we could tell he had a lot of tables to wait on that were full. As stated prior they were very busy. They could have used more help.
A seat on the patio, a beautiful salad and a glass of wine, good service from friendly wait staff, what more could we ask?
Food on a Sunday was absolutely sub-par. Service was okay....not great whatsoever. Wine, beer and shucked oysters were great.
HORRIBLE SERVICE! We arrived at 5:30 to have drinks before a 6:30 reservation. When we were seated at 6:30 p.m., we were told there was a hold on the kitchen until 7 p.m. No bread offered, nothing...just sit and drink more at your table for another 1/2 hour before we will even consider taking your order. It was truly unbelievable and the waiter was not friendly at all and very aloof throughout the entire service until the end when taking our payment by credit card. He then tried to turn on the charm and exclaimed he was a poor student. It was a very disappointing evening. The food was okay, the view was nice, but the poor, arrogant service was the icing on the cake...we will never go back here. The views are not enough to sustain a restaurant.
Great spot and great food! The kitchen was a bit slow the day I was there but the staff apologized for the long wait and comp'd one of my drinks.
Great place, good food, slow service. In fairness, their credit card system was down and it seemed they were struggling to keep up with closing tables. The staff was very nice, just a bit swamped.
The food was excellent, my wife and I shared the miso halibut and the whiskey crab & steak. Both were done to perfection. They have a good kids menu and the pizza and pasta the kids ordered were high quality.
Would highly recommend.
Disappointed that their vegan burger is only available at lunch time, especially after they removed the vegan risotto from their menu. Yes, they can make a salad vegan by removing some ingredients - but it's not as exciting for a night out. Food was good, but just wish they would have a better dinner option for vegans.
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the Local Harvest Bowl was - warm and delicious with a great combination of flavours and textures. Only thing I would like to see is Nutritional Information available for the food, especially the more health/heart healthy dishes like this one. Service was great, patio table was a treat on a nice afternoon. I'll definitely be back for this bowl.
We have been to Steamship grill several times and when it was first opened it was really good but went downhill. Last Feb we went for Dine Around and thought it had greatly improved, but when we were there this time we were again very disappointed, especially with the service. We found it was incredibly slow; waited for over 40 minutes to get our appetizers and then the server had forgotten to put in one order, so one person ended up eating after everyone else was finished. The main courses arrived faster (an attempt to speed things up for us) but as a result the steaks were underdone. He asked if we wanted dessert but it was 15 minutes before he even brought the menu to the table, by which time we weren't interested. We will not be returning.
We sat outside on the terrace under the heaters overlooking the harbour to eat dinner. The appetisers were very tasty especially the coconut prawns and crab cakes. All 4 of us opted for the halibut & fries, the halibut was covered in a very light batter (not mentioned on the menu, but it wasn’t an issue for us), which was delicious & perfectly cooked, the slaw on the side was very tasty too. Service was very attentive & quick, all in all a great place to eat & I’d highly recommend it.
Excellent food as always. Lovely restored building.
Delicious dishes, awesome server, very attentive.
Service was prompt and very friendly. The food was delivered in a reasonable time and was delicious. We will be back.
Overall the experience was O.K. The food was fine, not great, service was average. We ordered a desert - waited over 30 minutes when someone, other than our waiter, came to tell us they'd made a mistake and didn't have any left. We were offered an alternative at no cost which was fine except that the desert was very average and we left half of it. We had a visitor from Alberta with us and were hoping to have a really good dining experience on the waterfront in Victoria - it was a bit disappointing. Maybe we just hit it on an off night.
The Filet with seafood was excellent but insufficient vegetables with the entree.
The service from our server was excellent.
The seating at the indoor table was uncomfortable. Back cushion and table pedestal a nuisance.
All of us enjoyed our meal.
We were as usual not at all disappointed in our experience @ the Steamship. We ordered an assortment of appetizers and enjoyed every morsel.
Food was delicious .. service was friendly .. good place for chit chat .. family or date for sure .. location is fabulous especially if you can get the patio area then you will got the view of downtown harbour.
The service was fantastic! The view beautiful! The seating cold... we were outside with no heater within warmth! The appie was delicious! (Roasted Brussel sprouts) however I think the main course was a miss.
Overall I’d recommend this restaurant for drinks, appies , ambience and great service!!
The restaurant has been a favorite of ours. The food is normally very good. Our experience was that while the service was friendly and the food was certainly good, the food took a long time coming. And we were there for a 5:00 reservation with very few tables seated. Very surprising.
Officially...the worst restaurant I have been in.
Atmosphere was dead....we were the only table on a Friday night.
Service was friendly but not attentive
Food was terrible
Value was way overpriced...I do not mind paying good money for a good experience but this was absolutely not worth half of what I spent.
This place will be closed in less than a year...that’s my prediction.
Great location. Great staff. Worth adding the extra $10 to make it a 3 course dining experience- take your time. Enjoy the food, enjoy the view! (Choose the Donuts!!!)
We started off our 1 year wedding anniversary celebration with brunch at Steamship Grill & Bar and it did NOT disappoint! We ordered the seafood tower that came with king crab, mussels, oysters, shrimp, tuna poke, and shrimp ceviche. It was so good! The service was amazing as well and our waiter even brought us a glass of champagne on the house to celebrate our anniversary. We will definitely be back to Steamship on our next visit to Victoria!
Last minute dinner with my little brother. Server was lovely. Food was great and great suggestions made.
We visited on a Saturday for lunch and the restaurant was quite empty. I'm actually surprised, because we had a great experience and would defiantly go back. I don't think people know what they're missing.
The service is friendly and attentive. The food was fresh, beautifully presented with decent portions and priced fairly. The seats by the large single pain windows can be a bit drafty in the winter, but other than that, it's a beautiful and comfortable historical building to enjoy.
We look forward to trying out the outdoor patio with beautiful harbour view in the Summer!
As per the reservation all was met to satisfaction. The server was wonderful and prompt. The dinner and cocktails were perfect and the view was awesome.
I used to love the menu and food. But the loss of really viable vegetarian main courses, plus drab broth for the muscles and watery linguine (and 7pm Friday out of sticky toffee pudding) was disappointing. The snapper dish was awesome though! Then our waiter kept interrupting us mid conversation (and had some awkward and oddly timed jokes). With so many options in Victoria we won't be coming back soon. :(
Great food, ambiance and service. Best caesars in the city!
Happy with the OpenTable booking system; the first course of raw oysters was delicious; the wine was fine as was the service. However, what put a damper on the evening was the uneven quality of the Saltspring Island mussels ~ some were fully cooked and some were close to raw, so did not eat the whole serving.
90th birthday party and they did an amazing job.
Always great food and service, love the patio in the summer time
I love the food and the view !
