About Statler Grill
The Statler Grill harkens back to the golden age of the big band era, and is named after Ellsworth Statler, who ran the Hotel Pennsylvania from 1919 to 1954, when musicians such as Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Glenn Miller played at the Cafe Rouge, the hotel's main dining room. The Statler serves classic New York steakhouse prime steaks and chops as well as daily delivered fresh seafood, while the bar and lounge serve a delicious grill menu. Located just steps away from Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden, it is the perfect place to have a breakfast meeting, a meal before an event at the Garden, or just to relax with friends and co-workers during happy hour before you hop on the train.
It is all about the food and service says owner Joseph Lavelle. "I want my guests to enjoy themselves, have a great meal and return again and again".

Statler Grill Ratings and Reviews
Went for Sunday brunch. Most items listed on the menu were not available. I ordered the steak and eggs which was supposed to be with a filet mignon. However, there was a strip of fat on the steak. My boyfriend ordered the pancakes with blueberries since he couldn't get french toast or waffles. The pancakes came with the blue berries on the side. Poor food, poor service....STAY AWAY....you've been warned
I dine here frequently due to it's proximity to MSG. Service was terrible, even though they knew we were attending a show. It took an hour for main course to arrive, only after we flagged down the waiter and he personally expedited our food.
Tables on top of each other. Very loud crowd.
Dined before Billy Joel concert. We were seated immediately, drinks served quickly and our food order was taken with a lot of patience and when we finally placed our order, the food came quickly, hot and delicious. The waiting staff lead by Tim was outstanding! Very attentive at such a busy time. This dining experience was the highlight of our evening! Can't say enough about how perfect the Statler Grill was! Hope to visit again!
Was looking for a new place for pre Ranger game dinner close to MSG, after exploring multiple locations menus etc. decided on Statler Grill. As it was my visit I was anxious to check it out. Got there and was greeted by two young ladies, one wasn’t the most pleasant the other walked us to our table gave us menus and was very nice. Bread and water got to us in good time soon followed by the waiter. By that time I noticed what I thought was a error on the menu. Online menu listed porterhouse for 2 at $88, get to restaurant menu now says $104. I made the waiter aware his response, yes their is a increase, hmm, yes I know that, but same question, amazingly I got the same response. At that point I knew this was a moot point and simply continued to order. Friend had the wedge salad I had the tomato and onion, all good. Went with the porterhouse for 2 in spite of increase, cooked perfectly delicious, grilled asparagus and garlic mash were perfect sides. All in all meal was fine however my rating reflects misleading prices which incidentally is still on the webpage menu, porterhouse for 2 $88 for 2 +$44 for each additional person. Shame, management has a good product no need to lie.
After having been to this restaurant several times in the past, the level of enthusiasm from the staff seems to have diminished. Maybe it was because of the holiday season taking its toll of the staff. Was greeted immediately upon entering or leaving, in fact there was no host or hostess visible at the podium, however a gentlemen who seemed to be the manager did eventually see us to our table. Food was prompt and delicious. Had to ask for water refills. It took a long time to get the check after asking for it. The food is very good and I would come back, however I would like to see more hustle and smiles from the staff.
Food was average at best. For a restaurant that claims to be a grill, they broil the steaks. The service was below average and our entrees came out at different times (the baked potato was 10 mins after I received my steak). Gratuity was included for a party of 5 and the service was not worthy of the customary gratuity charge.
Don't let the 3 star review fool you. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. The food is superb. If the review was based on food only, I would have given 5 stars. Taking service into consideration, I would have liked our server to be a bit more attentive. I ordered the filet mignon tips which had a hint of sweetness. My fiancé ordered the bone in rib - everyone must try this before they die! There is so much rich+savory flavor in every bite.
Felt rushed. Waiter was rude. Lump crab cakes have maybe 1 Tablespoon of identifiable crab. The rest was mushy bread. 3 small cakes Clams oregnata was very salty and stuffed mushrooms also have terrible stuffing. Tuna was offered as an option to replace crab which was good but left me unsatisfied as I wanted a hot dish
Best part of the meal was the dessert cocktails
The food and service were good , except the creamed spinach had a perfummy taste . We had a 20something yo cpl next to us that couldn’t have been more inconsiderate than they were thinking that they were the only ones in the restaurant, unfortunately the restaurant can not control that so we will not hold them accountable, other than that it was a most enjoyable date.
The Statler Grill was very noisy and crowded. We got our (shared) appetizer approximately one minute before we got our entrees. The food was OK, nothing great. But the main thing the restaurant has to recommend it is its location, right near Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. Most restaurants that nearby are similar (there are a lot of Irish bars on the adjacent blocks), so if we attend another concert there, we might reluctantly have to go back to the Statler Grill.
The food was ok but the service wasn’t terrible! So slow, we were forgotten about, and my mom had to get up and one point to find a water pitcher to pour some for herself. There were bottomless mimosas which were good. I think they are understaffed for the amount of people they had come in after they opened! We went to Saturday brunch, and this app let us make a reservation there at 11, however they don’t open until 12! We had to go somewhere else for an hour. Overall this was not a great experience and I would purchase it again.
Used the Groupon. You get a different very limited menu. The steak offered was not so good. The waiter was a bit snobby. They were out of the desserts we ordered but did offer good alternatives. One of our party ordered from the regular menu. Her onion strings were well done but her sandwich was good.
We have been at this restaurant several times and have been very happy with the service and the food. This time the maitred was so rude. The waiter was annoyed at us for asking a question. When he poured the wine, he spilled it on the tablecloth. It was like he couldn't get away from the table fast enough. When we ordered our steak well done, He quickly put us in our place by saying you are ruining the steak. How rude!!!
I purchased the groupon for this brunch and they did not tell us there would be any substitutions. The did not have the all you can drink mimosas. The 8 ox filet mignon was replaced with a gristle filled 4oz sirloin. They did not bring our dessert which was a pre made cheesecake for about 1.5 hours. This was the worst brunch I have had in a few years. The hostess said she was sorry and did apologize but did not offer to refund any part of the money paid and claimed she would compensate us at a later time when they were able to replenish their kitchen supplies, prosecco and meats. I am not sure I want to try to take them up on this offer but I might just to see if they can redeem themselves
