Station House Cafe Ratings and Reviews
I had been to the Station House Cafe previously and had a really great meal and drink before hand. This time was a disappointment espec ially because I had raved to my husband about the restaurant. My oysters were wonderful. The salmon was overcooked. Drinks were OK. We went back for breakfast and were disappointed again with rubbery pancakes. I know it can be really good but I guess it is just inconsistent. I will try again because I have a very happy memory of the first dinner and also a good lunch.
We saw the review on Check Please, and were planning a getaway weekend to Inverness, so made a reservation at Station House for our first evening. Ambiance is friendly. On a Friday night, it was mostly locals, including dating couples, families, and regular patrons cruising through.
The fare combines local fresh ingredients in dishes that are creative, and also twists on comfort food staples. There is clearly something for everyone. Only complaint was the daily special, which was Cioppino. Salmon, shrimp, mussels, and half a dungeness crab in an aromatic broth that was wonderful. The crab, however, was soft and mushy, and not cracked, so it was a bit of a wrestle to eat it.
Must have been one of those days for the staff. To start we were given the worn caraffe of wine...ordered pinot and got a zinfandel. Server told us it was indeed a pinot and we were indeed given the right wine. So we ordered a second caraffe and boy oh boy were those two wine different. Salad was delivered after the entree do to poor kitchen timing and burger ordered without bun was delivered with a bun. The food was good and well prepared however the service was way off. Hope this was just a bad night.
Lively, warm and welcoming place! We hadn't eaten at the Station House Cafe for a few years and were happy to return. We enjoyed the ambiance and the music wafting in from the bar. Interesting seasonal choices on menu along with old standards. Enjoyed the cioppino and salmon was nicely prepared though accompanying veggies (favas and fingerling potatoes) were almost undercooked. Wait staff could not have been more accommodating, but wine we ordered was unavailable and server was not knowledgeable about other options.
Had a reservation upon recommedation.
Had 2 cocktails- Uptown martini and Pomegranite Mojito. The martini was good- vodka was Hangar One. Mojito was a little sweet.
Service; Greeted promptly at the door by hostess. She retrieved us from the bar when ready.
Server was opininionated when asked about menu items. She recommended the Salmon, Osso Bucco and Veggie Burger ( if you like garlic). BBQ oysters to start, were delicious. The rest was forgettable. The salmon was very oily, not just the salmon but the sauce is was prepared in. The Bread pudding for dessert, was not all it was hyped up to be. I was craving it and I make it better at home. All in all, I am sorry I didn't go back to the Cafe down the street.
We started in the bar but it was too busy and noisy for conversing. So we dined outdoors in the patio. The weather was on the cool side but layered with warm jackets we were fine. The patio was ideal for our group's reunion. My blue-cheese burger was DELICIOUS! Others had cobb salads, fish & chips, veggie burger and they all seemed to enjoy their meal.
My fiance and I have been coming here for Valentines Day for the last 9 years. We came upon it on accident on Valentines Day in 2003 and had such a great time and enjoyed the food so much that we make the drive from Sacramento every year. The food never disappoints, and the pop overs and bread pudding are enough to always keep us coming back!
This cafe is located in downtown Pt.Reyes Station. It has your basic breakfasts, brunches and lunches. It is vibrant and energetic.
The food is basic diner/coffee shop food and it is good! It is great for pulled pork sandwiches, bacon and eggs, hamburgers, fries, you know the drill. My husband and I go there when we just want to get out of town, go for a drive, have a nice lunch and go for a walk out at Abbott's Lagoon.
The staff was very friendly and knoKnowledgeable regarding their menu. Since it is crab season and this we mentioned on their website, we were disappointed there was no crab to be offered on the menu. After our appetizer's and drinks arrived, our waitress forgot to bring my eight year old daughters drink. We had to ask for it. I ordered my skirt steak medium and it was more on the well done side. We also had to reminde our waitress for our side of vegetables and another drink after waiting paitently. The restaurant is nice, but the food is over priced for the quality. If they mention something is in season on their website, it should be offered on the menu.
Food very good. Restaurant was very busy (Sat nite) and so service somewhat slow. Waitress helpful and prompt. Noise level terrible. We were surrounded on two sides by families with children. On one side a little girl who spoke non-stop and very loud. On the other, two kids, on of them a little girl who made loud trilling noises frequently with zero intervention by parents or staff. We managed to outlast both families and then the noise level diminished greatly as our comfort level rose. We'll be back.
The mussel/clam fettucini has gone downhill.. not enough garlic, lemon juice, parmasean cheese.. it was bland. It was also not hot when served.
The oysters were wonderful. Friends loved the popovers. My salad was soggy.
My halibut dish was very bland and was definitely not worth $20. It should have been a delicious seared grilled dish.. instead it just tasted baked and the citrus beurre sauce was very bland. Also the portion was tiny but I didn't want anymore!
My husband enjoyed the fish and chips and I have to say that although I don't like eating beef, my friend said the skirt Neiman Ranch steak was excellent and the hamburgers were tasty too.
This was our first time here and had read yelp reviews prior. most reviews stated that food was good but service wasnt. we found that to be somewhat true and somewhat false. the service in the bar was terrible, but our service in the restaurant was great and the food was just as good. we will go back, we will just go elsewhere for a pre-dinner drink!
The man in charge on Fri. was super. I forgot to ask his name. We so enjoyed our evening and meal, that we went back the next night. We didn't have a reservation, but we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. The same man was there seating people and checking in, and he was great. He made us feel so welcome.
