State Street Grill Ratings and Reviews
Our server literally only came in once to ask if we needed anything. Throughout the time we ate our appetizers, our server spent the entire time talking to the table behind us and was so freaking loud, my husband and i couldnt survive a normal conversation. The server laughed extremely loudly and obnoxiously for 30 min. Then throughout the time i finished my salmon and my husband his huge vege burger , the server talked at another table for 30 min and the realised she should come to us for the bill. We had to ask someone else to give us a coke. She was the worst server ever and ruined our new years eve.
Very loud and they had so many tables squished in so there was no privacy. The food was good, not something I would be longing to go back for. Nicely decorated. Service was decent but our waiter never told us the specials until after we ordered appetizers and soup.
The food here was nothing short of phenomenal and the service was second to none. While this is not a tailored suit and tie establishment the food’s taste and presentation held the highest standard I’ve seen in over a decade of experiencing different restaurants.
I was not afraid to try a variety of choices in my trip. I ordered the house made pretzels and pulled pork tacos for appetizers, both of which blew my mind with the flavors.
For my entree I enjoyed their daily ‘Catch’ which was a medium rare tuna served on a bed of cheesy polenta and asparagus spears, with roasted tomatoes on the side.
To top it all off I had the fanciest dessert of my life in the form of the vanilla bean creme brûlée, garnished in a presentation that could have easily taken 10 minutes to create.
I wish I could upload the pictures I took of the food to help convey the full effect.
My father and cousin shared the appetizers with me and ordered the house burger and margarita pizza respectively, with both dishes earning high praise from them both.
I can’t wait for the next opportunity to bring more family and friends to this place again.
Regular at the State St grill. Menu changed recently but still good.Food nicely presented and tasty. This place is often crowded but this time reasonably quiet but filled up around 8 pm on Saturday.
Certainly recommend for food or beer.Nice ambiance and truly a gem in the area.
Food was good, not good enough to compensate for the awful service (not to mention that several friends ordered burgers that came out overdone). Took an hour and a half to bring out appetizers, and over two hours to get our entrees. By the time our food got to the table they were starting to close the kitchen and our server was clearly ready for us to leave. We made our server aware of the wait time for food, and nothing was done to assuage the situation. Will not be going back again.
I am new to the area and I was looking for a nice place to go for dinner with some friends visiting from out of town. This was perfect. Food was terrific. Ambiance was great. Two are vegetarian and there were plenty of yummy options. Also had some really interesting cocktails. Our only regret was that we couldn't reserve an outdoor table and none were available as it was a lovely night but there place was really crowded. I've already recommended it to a friend.
Food was a bit on the expensive side, but I expected that. What I didn't expect was how small the portions were. My girlfriend and I both got the large options, a salad, and an appetizer (the calamari was great), yet when we left, we still had to go to a fast food place because of how hungry we still were. Food was not good enough to warrant the high price. If I'm gonna spend that much money on food, I expect to eat great food and actually be full when I leave.
The hosting staff does not go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We stood at the hostess station without being acknowledged for white a while. The hostess was busy, which is understandable because this is a popular and well liked place. But management would be wise to train their other staff to at least give a smile to those waiting and assure you the hostess would be right back. The food was good. Every time I go the food is never outstanding, but the atmosphere and ambiance of State Street is most of the lure. The outdoor seating is wonderful. Our waiter was very kind and friendly. But the food does leave something to be desired. If you go for the food, consider other options. If you go for the atmosphere, State Street is a great place to catch up with friends, grab a drink, and have an appetizer.
Had a reservation for Sunday brunch at noon with a group of girlfriends. We were seated after about eight minutes, but on time. Our waitress was very attentive. I got the State Street Grill burger which was good. Nothing outstanding however cooked medium as ordered. My friend got the eggs Benedict which she states was delicious and she is a hollandaise snob. Other friends got the waffles which they also said was delicious. Overall good ambience, fun time. Nice outdoor seating area. It was slow for a Sunday brunch probably bc it was a bit on the chilly side. Would definitely come back.
I made a reservation on open table. I asked for outdoor seating if available. We were told all of it was reserved through catering. We wanted to come specifically for outdoor dining. We were celebrating 2 birthdays in a group of 9. I asked about a large table outside that wasn't being used. I was told it was for a bachelorette party that by the way never showed. We were there for more than 2 hours and no one sat at that table that we could have used. Very disappointed.
I love everything about State Street! The atmosphere is fantastic, outdoor seating in the summer is cozy! You won't find a better outdoor space near Scranton. Food is delicious the spring roll and calamari appitizers are to die for! Save room because the creme brûlée is yummy and they often have multiple flavors of it! Try it I promise you won't be disappointed.
Usually the food at SSG is very good. However, this time I decided to try something new that they added to the menu: avocado toast. It was absolutely horrible. It was smothered in cream cheese. Small avocado slices were then put on top. You couldn't even taste the avocado and egg because the cream cheese was so overwhelming. I liked that they had avocado toast on the menu, but the way they did it was terrible. Someone needed to tell them...
