About State Fare Bar & Kitchen
State Fare Kitchen pays tribute to California’s prized harvest and ingredients, inspired by offerings from the finest purveyors in the Coachella Valley, inland Southern California and the Pacific coast. Presenting the best of California for daily breakfast, lunch and supper, as well as Sunday brunch, the restaurant provides a fresh and creative California menu, a lively chefs’ display kitchen, a chef’s table and private dining room. The restaurant is highlighted by a choice of settings from intimate to lively, including a fireplace “snug”, private dining rooms, relaxed fireside patio dining and expansive terraces overlooking gardens and pools. We will do our very best to fulfill all guest requests, but special requests for the terrace will depend on availability.

Poor service. We ordered soup and sandwich. Soup came out promptly. We never got the sandwich. Finally asked someone because the waiter was no where in sight. Shortly after the second person brought out a sandwich that looked hastily prepared and not as we asked for it. We decided to leave. It's unfortunate because it's lovely at the Ritz and we enjoy going there but the restaurant is not up to Ritz standards.
Outdoor seating for lunch was lovely. My guest enjoyed the calamari and brisket sandwich. My salad was just okay. We had three different servers come by our table to take care of us. One asked if we wanted bread for the table before the meal. We all said yes but none ever arrived. Also, our three entrées arrived without the calamari that was ordered to start. Staff was very friendly.
Heater promised for outdoor dining. We were seated at table without heat. We asked for heater and one was eventually wheeled over. Server didn’t know how to light in, so propane was released. People at next table were concerned about igniting propane via nearby fire pit. Eventually another server arrived to light it, but left it on low. Still another server arrived to take over. We had to ask to have heater turned up. Food was over thought, over fat, over rich, over flavored. Pasta carbonara with flat fettuccine noodles swimming in creme. Pork was overcooked and bacon-bit sized, crunchy, and spicy. Roasted chicken was merely baked. Very slow pickup of credit card to pay. Very pleasant service by last server undercut by overall lack of professionalism. Not a Ritz experience!
This was my second lunch at your restaurant in two months and loved it. On both occasions,
we ate outside and loved the ambiance there. A heater was offered and provided on this last trip and was most welcome. Service (Dillon) was great and spaced nicely (not rushed) and checked up on. Water refills were offered and accepted. Tables are spaced fairly well ( not on top of each other) and although the pool was busy, there wasn't a lot of noise that reached the
I am so sad to write this review of State Fare and the RItz Carlton. The occasion was lunch for 6 celebrating the 75th birthday of my wife, a sentimental occasion since, 25 years ago, we celebrated her 50th birthday at a private party on the Croquet Lawn.
We have eaten at State Fare several times, consistently finding the ambiance and service excellent and the food very good. This time, the ambiance didn't disappoint but the service was a mixed bag and the food was a big diasppointment. The staff was friendly but not sufficiently observant to refill empty champagne glasses or serve iced tea when glasses were empty. After a second request for the iced tea someone explained that brew time was 7 minutes and that it would be out shortly. It arrived about 15-20 minutes after the first request. By the time we realized that there was champagne in our bottle we were having dessert and coffee. We poured it but it went unfinished.
Our party of six ordered 5 different entrees. Every one was a disappointment. One chicken sandwich went uneaten. As the server picked up the plate I heard our guest state that the chicken was too dry to eat and to please let the chef know. While we didn't raise our concerns as we left, when my wife and I discussed it afterwards, sharing our concern about the dry chicken, we both commented that we hadn't enjoyed our sandwich or pasta dish and that neither of them was properly cooked or tasty. We then asked our other friends who also confirmed disappointment with their entrees.
The beautiful location and impecable ambiance of the Ritz Carlton calls for a much different standard of service and food quality than we experienced. I hope that this review will cause those responsible for oversight of this former desert gem to make some changes.
Celebrated our 18th Anniversary...PERFECT place!! Food, Bloody Mary’s outstanding and service to match!! Would highly recommend...and weather outside on patio was great...have been before and definitely will return...we are PS residents!!
The restaurant was on the patio, beautiful. After ordering wine, we waited 35 minutes, asked another waiter to find our waiter, he brought the wine and took our orders. We waited another
30 minutes before our food arrived. Everyone around us was served and had finished. Food was good, service was awful. We wondered if it was because we were 6 women! Being women we all tipped, which we shouldn't have.
Since opening, State Fare has become a favorite for our seasonal visits to the desert.
Though the food preparation is still quite lovely, we were saddened by two things this past visit-
1. The service: Part of the reason we love The restaurant is that we've had exceptional service every visit. This time, though the service was not *bad*, it was also not great. Things were so relaxed that we wondered if we'd been forgotten about a few times...
2. (And most importantly) whomever thought it a good idea to put an incredibly loud, mediocre singer in this space needs to rethink this. We were on the other side of the restaurant, and yet as soon as he started singing we could no longer have a conversation without screaming. We were finishing our entrees and planning after-dinner drinks and dessert- instead we quickly requested our check and left.
Sadly, We won't go back if they continue to have live music.
We had dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. Food and service was outstanding. Chef Bruno came out to wish her Happy Birthday which was a nice treat. Unfortunately, I couldn't convince Bruno to sing Happy Birthday (probably a good thing). The wait staff addressed us by our names which is always a nice touch. Food was outstanding and the cupcake and candle I requested when I made my reservation arrived at the end of our meal.
Mediocre service and even worse food....DO NOT GO!!!
This restaurant doesn't know what style it should project. The prices and menu would suggest a higher-end restaurant, but the service, atmosphere, and food quality are on par with Applebees. First, the hostess informs us our table needs to be cleared and then proceeds to give it away to a couple who didn't have reservations. When they attempt to seat in a section near a very loud live music act (who were terrible) we needed to wait another 5 minutes for them to clear a different table. My Caesar salad was soggy and uninspired and my wife's arugula salad with chicken was bland and the chicken was dry as a bone. The only highlight were the avocado fries, which were delicious. The waitstaff was completely inattentive and they had kids in bathing suits walking through the restaurant. I realize this isn't the high-end restaurant for the Ritz, but at nearly $25 a plate, I would have expected much more.
Celebrated my inlaw's 40th wedding anniversary on a quick trip out to Palm Springs..
made reservations here as we had two school age kids and thought that the Ritz would be more accommodating...
Staff took great care of our party and put us all in the chef's table (essentially a private room)...
service was on point and had a great evening...
