Stars Restaurant - Rooftop & Grill Room Ratings and Reviews
Valentine’s Day! What a great night. Could not have been more perfect. The service was great. We started with the oyster appetizer. A nice bottle of wine. Lauren ordered the seafood and grits and I ordered the ribeye steak ( house special) both meals were incredible. Value was good. Expectations were overachieved!
Don’t go for restaurant week! We had a reservation but we’re not able to sit down at our table until 45 minutes later! The service was awful, my sister and myself did not enjoy our meal (barely touched it) and couldn’t get the waiter’s attention to return it. When he finally got back to us, he never asked how our meal was but simply took the plates and gave us the check. By the time he got to our table, it was almost midnight and we were so tired and upset that we didn’t want to even deal with it anymore. Very upsetting experience.
Yum, Stars. We had a great "restaurant week" dinner. The poutine was so savory and delicious. We got seated in a circular booth which was nice and romantic. I think there is also an upstairs and a room in the back for seating so it kind of felt like a cool speakeasy- lots of activity and people watching on a Saturday night. Sullivan, our server, was awesome!
Took some friends that trust us to pick where to eat in Charleston. They said it was the best meal they have had in Charleston since they moved here over a year and a half ago. We have taken them to over 4 dozen restaurants since they moved here. The server was awesome and very comfortable with everything. His name was Chris. Thanks for making the evening special.
My husband and I went to celebrate our birthday. The food was excellent as well as the service, Chris was our server and he was super nice, explained the menu, gave us suggestions for the evening as well as for our stay in Charleston. I highly recommend this restaurant!
This was my 3rd or 4th time having dinner at Stars and was extremely disappointed. All other times, the food was great as was the experience. Understanding it was Restaurant week, I was looking forward to the menu and meal and a great deal. However, from the beginning when we asked for recommendations from the server, he even said he liked the regular menu more than the Restaurant Week menu, which defeated the whole purpose of our group going to Stars in the first place. I had brought my coworkers hoping to impress them with the ambience and the meal, but we were very disappointed in the food and portion sizes. All other times I have been, the food was incredible and portions were acceptable. The service was still good but otherwise disappointed.
We made this reservation for restaurant week which began on 1/10, it was 1/13 at 6pm when we went. When we asked for the restaurant week menu we were told that they were sold out of everything. I wouldn’t have made the reservations here if not for restaurant week. It felt like a bait and switch, we weren’t offered anything for the fact that they had sold out of restaurant week items. Not a discount, not a free app, not a dessert nothing. The food was good yes, but that doesn’t negate the fact that I felt like we were bamboozled into eating off the regular menu. The waitress said well u can go somewhere else...well by that time it was 7pm in downtown charleston so anywhere would have been packed and we would have needed reservations, oh and I am 8.5 months pregnant and needed to eat. Very disappointed overall, and will probably never go back.
My husband and I were in town for a conference and decided to try Stars for dinner. We are so glad we did. The building it is in is beautiful. Our waitress was Brandy and she was very personable and knowledgeable of the menu. Made good suggestions and allowed us time to enjoy a drink before ordering.
I ordered the salmon which was perfect. I have a hard time finding salmon cooked the way I like it and the chef did a great job. It was cooked medium and was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. My husband had a pork chop special which he enjoyed very much. I would highly recommend trying it out.
It was New Year's day evening and very slow. I checked but got a sorry we missed yo email so my Open Table reservation was not acknowledged (I had to go back to ask them to check me in - want the points and I also get a commission for all reservations on OT through my business).
We got a shrimp cocktail (nice big shrimp and yummy cocktail sauce, which was good for shrimp cocktail). Got the caesar salad which had a nice house-made dressing. For dinner, the Stars Grill Room Steak - too rare - purple - asked for med rare, small portion. Just ok. Server was tentative and not attentive, considering how slow it was. Plenty of other great places to try in Charleston - probably won't go back for dinner.
Had the brunch buffet and it was lackluster at best. Overpriced, and the food was mid grade at best.
Bacon was cool, not even warm.
Salad dressing had no label, and we very thick so it was difficult to get them out in small quantities.
The made to order omelette was over cooked but very hot when delivered.
Coffee was good.
Would not give them another shot with so many other great options to choose from.
We sat downstairs on a very busy weekend night to celebrate our daughters recent college graduation and sort of holiday celebration combined. The energy in the place is awesome, and even though it was crowded, we were seated right at our reservation time. Wait staff were very attentive, the waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly and our entree's and dessert were all amazing!
To top it all off, the management team jumped into action rallying help from some of their staff to find and save our daughters new college class ring that had fallen down the drain of the bathroom sink. They couldn't have been more helpful! We'll definitely be going back!
We had an excellent experience at Stars. Our waiter, Eric, was personable and had great suggestions for the meal. Our appetizers, entrées, and desserts arrived quickly and were all delicious. Those who ordered the steaks were particularly impressed by the quality and the attention paid to the requested temperature - they were perfectly cooked. An excellent variety of choices, a great focus on local ingredients, and fantastic setting.
Christmas Eve Dinner was a pleasant surprise as we were expecting a lot less quality and ambiance. The wine, entree and dessert were quite good. The beef was superb, the lobster generous and the asparagus cold. Service was outstanding! Waiter presented the specials as all one price and bill did not reflect it. Surf and Turf was a special and priced much higher than the others. Never suggesting an adjustment. Therefore: mislead and cold asparagus for a very expensive dinner FOUR stars. The only reason we showed was because open table helped us with a reservation on this night when many places are closed. It was packed.
