Stars Restaurant - Rooftop & Grill Room Ratings and Reviews
Friend and I had brunch there while in town for the weekend. The food choice included a nice variety and the taste was excellent, overall. The only drawback was the eggs were a little runny and wet, but the sausage was fantastic, with a great smoked flavor. I would definitely go back again.
I rarely ever write a poor review. I wanted this to be such a great meal... however all but one of our meals were cold. Not lukewarm, actually cold. The lobster pasta I had was chewy and the other meals were quoted by my family as just okay but not much flavor. Our waiter just said sorry and had them “throw it back in the pan to be heated up.” For the prices of everything I wished it would have been much better, and in the end, they didn’t come us anything for what happened, nothing at all. I won’t be trying it for a second time with all the other amazing food spots in Charleston :(
Our first time here and we enjoyed every aspect of our meal! The wait staff was very attentive, made sure we had a gold star meal and experience! My wife and I ordered two different types of meals and both exceeded our expectations. We were comped dessert, and that was a huge plus also! When back in Charleston, we will have reservations here again!!
We were a party of 10, for Saturday morning brunch, and the food was amazing. The food was set up buffet style, which was hot and delicious, including shrimp and grits, eggs, fried chicken and pancakes with assorted fruits, vegetables and dessert. Yum!! We highly recommend this restaurant!!
Delicious food and excellent service. The interior is cozy and elegant. Great for a date. At times the elevator from the rooftop opened up right to our table and some rowdy folks stumbled out into the romantic setting, but not really a big deal. Would return!
We expected a superior experience, from rooftop drinks to the service to the food and wine. Could not have been more disappointed. And there are so many good restaurants in Charleston that it was a wasted evening. The drinks on the rooftop - plastic - at those prices? My martini only filled half the martini glass and when asked, was told that they do a 2.5 ounce pour - never heard of that for a martini and at $14! Never mind that the bartender was condescending and unfriendly about it. When we sat down to dinner, we found the waiter arrogant. We had to go through two wine selections before they found it in the back. The seafood and grits was lumpy and pretty awful. The horseradish mashed potatoes were mostly chunky horseradish - that is supposed to be an essence, not the bulk of the potatoes. Did not even ponder topping off an already bad experience with potentially bad dessert! Definitely a disappointment - generally , our Opentable selections have lived up to expectations but not this one. Warn your members!
Was a nice place.Food was not BAD... but for the price..it was not exceptional. With so many other downtown restaurants, we likely wouldn’t return. I’ve had better filets at outback to be honest..was bland.Macaroni and cheese was good but nothing i’d come back for ..hubby said prime rib was good..not great..for nearly 50 bucks..to me it should be stand out.servive was very good
My wife and I love this place! Our absolute favorite in all of Charleston. And we have eaten all over the place in this town! It's amazing from start to finish. Every course is a rock star. Drinks are amazing as well. Nothing at all to complain about. Waitstaff is on point, we know some of them by name. Just a great place to eat!
Excellent service and food. I had the seafood and grits—delicious. Served with an abundance of crawfish, shrimp and scallops. My wife ordered the scallops special. Scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. This special was served with pimento risotto which was outstanding. I like bread with my meal and they typically don’t serve, but when I asked my server, he promptly returned from the kitchen with a plate of fresh, delicious bread. Guess you just have to ask. No room for dessert, but the menu looked impressive.
Very attractive ambience. Service was good.
Food was tasteless. Scallops were beautifully prepared but had no flavor. Sausage with pasta had very little sausage. Crab cakes could have been made of canned chicken.
Drinks and wine were fine. Bartender didn’t know how to make a martini that was shaken.
Great location, great atmosphere, great service. We were there on a (not busy) Sunday night so the noise level would probably be higher on a busier night but we had a booth for six people and conversation was very easy. No kids menu but an accommodating staff that fixed a kid-appropriate meal.
The staff was very accommodating of our group with eleven, five children aged 2-16, and six adults. The service was very good and the food choices were fantastic. The bacon Tater tots, baked oysters and calamari were good appetizers for all. THe ribeye special was greatly enjoyed by several at our table and the salmon special was excellent as well. Several of the children had their hamburger and based on the clean plates it was a good choice as well. We will be back.
We really enjoyed our meal. We ordered the bingo oysters as an appetizer to share and they where excellent. My husband ordered the lobster pasta dish and was very pleased with it. I ordered the scallops in rositto with pimento cheese. The scallops where cooked to perfection and the rositto was outstanding. We where very pleased with our meal.
Monday night out with visitors from New York City. Sadly it was raining so we were unable to have a drink on rooftop. Nothing you could do about that. Cabernet wine suggest wasvery enjoyable, as was the Pinot noir. Appetizers of crab cakes, calamari and kale salad enjoyable. The second salad, Caesar, had way too much dressing. Entrees: lobster linguine - lobster rubbery and pasta tacky, special roasted chicken dry and almost inedible, steak special advertised at 7 ounces was two small triangular pieces of overcooked and very tough meat on at least 1 pound of cold mashed potatoes with melted cheese (I thought) and spinach, special scallop okay. All in all, a very disappointing meal. I will not recommend.
Prime rib is one of the menu specialities. It is spit roasted over flame then cut and grilled to order. Actual is a very good ribeye steak and not the traditional prime rib. Our were perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. This was our first visit and we will be back.
Went to Stars for a Brunch with Family (Wife, son - Citadel Cadet, Daughter - Wofford) on weekend of football game. Stars is a favorite of my Daughter for dinner so we tried them for Sunday Brunch. It was excellent and we will definitely return. Everything from the made to order items to the buffet was perfect and exceeded even our high expectations! Service was great too. Even in the incredible restaurant environment of Charleston, Stars is a standout in every way!
