One of the best, most consistent restaurants in Vermont!
If you are driving along Route 7 between Middlebury and Burlington you could easily miss the unassuming facade of Starry Night Cafe. But once inside, you will be greatly surprised at the size of the establishment--there is a screened-in porch and an open patio, in addition to the two dining rooms. The service is impeccable, and the menu is diverse and unique. Definitely worth a stop, or a detour, for the Starry Night Cafe.
We have visited Starry Night Cafe many times for dinner over the years and have never been disappointed in any aspect of the dining experience.
First visit- staff was incredibly friendly and we didn’t feel rushed at all. Appetizers looked amazing. Blue cheese gratin was incredible. Pork was good, but not exceptional. Beef tenderloin was tender and perfect.
Great service by the staff. Very attentive. Excellent food. Definitely coming back.
Amazing meal start to finish! I highly recommend this place. I brought people with very picky palates and it was enjoyed by all.
Excellent service and delicious food and cocktails!
We had a lovely evening dining on the outdoor patio overlooking the pond. The service was great, everyone working in our section paid attention and yet were not hovering or overly pretentious. We had three courses plus desert paired with great wines, and our desert was decorated specially for our anniversary. Every bite was delicious and I look forward to coming back.
Amazing service and fantastic ambiance. Food was spectacular. What else can I say? We will return
We always have an amazing meal at starry night. They never disappoint.
Starry Night is a lovely and unique place to dine with options of different dining areas: outdoor patio, enclosed porch, bar or our favorite, the unusual octagonal dining room.
The dining room is casual, but yet refined. The ambiance is restful and comfortable. It is easy to have a conversation with others in your party, which we enjoy. The service is smooth, polite and well-trained. The menu provides a nice variety of options the food is very good. My cod was beautifully fresh, about an inch thick and cooked perfectly.
I highly recommend Starry Night as a special place to dine.
We enjoyed our meal! I was a bit confused as I looked at the menu online and had made a choice in my head- the chosen option was not on the menu.
When I asked if the red pepper sauce could be left off of the ravioli because I do not like red peppers I was told the pasta would be dry without the sauce so I chose a delicious rib eye - I was s but surprised to find red pepper slices in the blue potato salad after saying my dud like for red peppers - the slices could have easily been picked out if the wait person had listened carefully.
All in all a good meal.
Our family’s favorite! Food is alway creative and delicious!
Very nice place, slightly pricey, but very good food, would come back again.
We had such wonderful time. The atmosphere was relaxing and the service was not rushed or hurried. We were able to enjoy our wine and entrees. The food was incredibly prepared and beautiful to look at. However, the taste was the star of the show. We will definitely be back and have already told many of our friends how wonderful it was.
Food was delicious!
All was very good except for the table in the fireside porch. Owners NEED to provide shade as the sun sets. “We are sorry” is not a solution.
We love it for special occasions. We make a point of getting there at least once a year.
Really delicious meal - will definitely return!!
Starry Night Cafe was the perfect venue for my husband and me to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated in the screened in back porch that has a lovely view of the flower gardens and pond. The gas fireplace was lit and candles flickered in lanterns inside the porch. The setting couldn't have been more pleasing and relaxing.
Our dinners were delicious and just the right proportions. It was lovely relaxing and enjoying each others company over good food and wine.
Starry Night is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. We have always had great meals and service. A real gem.
These people know how to run a restaurant!
The dining rooms are comfortable, engaging , and many tables have pleasant views of the surrounding pastoral scenery.
The preparation of food is superb. I do not often order steak in a restaurant, but my filet plate, with accompaniments, was wonderful. Ditto everything we have ever had there.
The service is very casual and friendly but not at the expense of professionalism.
If you want to have a Starry Night, by all means go.
The food was beautifully plated and the tastes were as good as anticipated. Service was pleasant and helpful. We sat with friends on the enclosed porch and were able to carry on
meaningful conversation without distraction or shouting above a din. A relaxed, refreshing dinner without a hitch.
Love Love Love. Everything.
The food is delicious, the service is not so good. Felt as if we were in the way rather than a paying customer. Not only did our meal and drinks take a long time to arrive, they plonked the check on the table whilst we were eating dessert.
We live very close by and like to support local businesses. Sadly we won't be coming back here.
Absolutely delightful restaurant with quality food and lovely ambience. Picturesque setting, despite the perspective from the gravel parking lot, with green garden and lawn and outdoor patio for cocktails. 3 dining rooms offered, with terrace room the most charming for us, especially in summer; it's bright and cheery and full of afternoon sunlight (the hostess graciously offered to adjust the awning to keep the sun out of our eyes). Food is fresh, creative and well-prepared: among us four, we enjoyed seared salmon in a lobster beurre blanc; risotto with mixed shellfish; and a robust grilled pork chop. Appetizers included asparagus salad; citrus salad with mixed greens, bleu cheese and almonds; and gazpacho with a dollop of fresh lobster. All delicious with satisfying portions! Presentation and food earn quality ratings by my discriminating NY City standards. Service was eqully professional yet friendly and welcoming.
Outstanding meal and service. The gazpacho was superb. Our favorite restaurant.
We experienced our typical dinner at Starry Night—starting with friendly and helpful but unobtrusive service, exceptional creative food, in a quiet garden setting
This restaurant is our choice for every special occasion We have never been disappointed
A wonderful dining spot in a surprising location halfway between Burlington and Middlebury, but very convenient for us. The salad special and ravioli were very tasty. Service was excellent until near the end of the evening when it slowed to a crawl. The front room is hot and stuffy but the screened-in back terrace room overlooking the pond is a delightful location on a summer evening.
Everything was wonderful! The food was delicious, the service was amazing and the room was excellent. We were seated in an enclosed area that looked like it could be converted into an open air porch area, even though it was chilly and raining outside it was very comfortable!
Starry Night is always great! We have friends from as far as Sydney Australia who won’t visit with us if we don’t bring them here. They are rabid foodies and really appreciate creative cuisine. Totally lovely experience!
Once again, a lovely meal in a lovely setting with consistency good service. Worth the drive for food, ambiance, and service.
We always enjoy going to Starry Night Cafe. We have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed.
This was a great restaurant with great food and atmosphere. We were visiting town and this was a bit out of the main Burlington area but worth the drive.
This restaurant consistently is one of the very best in the area.
Everything was DELICIOUS. The drive out to the restaurant from Burlington is beautiful and the restaurant is on such a cute property! Service was stellar (despite the kitchen being momentarily backed up).
Food was fantastic Service was wonderful. Very relaxing.
A delightful evening outside on the patio with tulips galore in bloom. We enjoyed sharing a local Citizen Cider with seasonally perfect salads (tomato salad and grilled asparagus salad). The entrees were standard favorites of grilled salmon and beef tenderloin with herbed mash potatoes . I finished my meal with a spring dessert of strawberry rhubarb cobbler which melted in my mouth. The portions were well sized and elegantly presented.
Table for 2 at 7:45. It was pretty busy when we arrived and the service was slow to start. Once they got rolling it improved. Food was excellent. We each had salads- delicious! I had ravioli and my husband had salmon. I thought the prices were higher than I remembered. Many appetizers were $13 or more. Cocktails there are unique and fun but also pricey. We enjoyed it but will save for special occasion.
This is a lovely idyllic spot not too far from Burlington with excellent food and great service. My salmon was perfectly prepared and my husband was very happy with his ravioli. Wine was excellent. We'll definitely be back.
