Starfish Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Starfish is one our of favorite sushi spots in atlanta. My favorite rolls are the "She's All That", "Woman on Top", "Finding Nemo", and "North & South". The White Tuna is always tasty too. The service can be slow at times, but they generally do a great job. If you're not in the mood for sushi, the teppanaki is a good choice as well as the tempuras they offer. Enjoy!
We have been to starfish probably 6 times in the last year. The food is good, and the service is fair. We return for the Sushi, free parking, and for convenience. We are picky about where we eat Sushi, and we are comfortable eating it here.
The service can be quite inattentive, not because they don't care, but they are unaware. You may have to get up to find them!
The Sushi and soft shell crab here is delicious, the service is extremely courteous and professional, it's been a long time since I've been to a restaurant with a staff that took pride in their profession.... yes, I'd come here again. Prices are affordable as well.
love the food; service is hit or miss. I can walk to this spot from home, so would like to become a regular, but the main hostess (older lady) can be...unwelcoming. Hours say open til 11 on Sat, Open Table allows booking at 10:30, but when we arrive we're told "take out only", and felt like we were inconveniencing her. Saving grace? Sushi chef(s)...awesome! They yelled thank you from across the room. We'll go again, and maybe be recognized.
We arrived early to our reservation and was seated immediately. We waited 15 minutes without anyone coming to offer water or service of any kind. The hostess was not concerned when I told her we were leaving and she offered no apology. We have been to starfish many times but will never return. We ended up having a great dinner at Doraku at the Streets of Buckhead. Highly recommend!
Whether it's a nice dinner with friends or just grabbing a to-go order, Starfish is very low maintenance and easy to grab a seat. The specialty sushi rolls range from crowd favorites found in any sushi restaurant to unique rolls such as the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory roll (filet mignon coating!!). The service is always very cordial and quick.
I grew up in the NW. I have eaten A LOT of sushi. And at Starfish, the food was fine. Nothing to write home about, just average sushi. However, the service was by a wide margin the worst I have ever received. And it wasn't just us.. every table around us was having issues. It almost was laughable. 40 minutes after ordering our waitress came back over and asked if we were ready to order.. seriously, the same waitress that had taken the order the first time. The table behind us received the wrong order, twice. The table next to us ordered wine, 20 minutes later they hadn't been asked for a food order yet - and food came to their table.. the wait staff was utterly confused, completely unorganized, and laughably under skilled. Do no go here. It is not good, the above average prices and mediocre food are not worth it.
We don't eat sushi very often so we had several questions for our waitress. She provided us a couple of waters within a reasonable time but it took several minutes before we could order a drink. Then when we started asking questions about the appetizers and entrees it appeared she didn't have the patience to answer our questions but pointed us to only 2 - 3 options on a several page menu. She wasn't willing to take the time to explain what to expect or what might be their "usual favorites" so she kept suggesting a couple with catchy names, like "Gone With the Wind". We did enjoy the food but will likely try someplace else before returning.
We were admittedly in a great mood and received outstanding service, but I thought this place was wonderful. The fish was great, the creative sushi oriented dishes were incredible, the prices were reasonable. With places like Umi and so on, we had been looking for a more chilled-out, less swanky sushi experience, where the fish was still high quality and the rolls creative. This is definitely the place. I would highly recommend.
