Started off stellar. Frim the receptionist to the appetizers we had high hopes. Read ALL those positive reviews. And I cook and eat out often. Sadly, not going to return.
The burger was so average the fries practically inedible, the fried chicken? Seriously. Shameful. Deboned? Like a cutlet. The accompanying vinegar slaw? So thoughtless. The cornbread moist yes.
Now that pate!! Wow. And wow. The dumplings? Delicious
Not coming back for average. So many stellar why would we?
Pretty disappointing experience overall. Despite having a reservation They wanted to see me at a hightop by the door on a cold night. They ended up sitting me outside with no heater and rushing through dinner so that they could get us out of there before they are 930 curfew. Service was completely robotic and almost no interaction or I contact with the wait staff. It’s like they couldn’t even stand being there themselves. And food was just average slightly better than diner food
Person serving us was attentive but not overbearing
Granted I ordered a pretty basic breakfast, but it was pretty bland - scrambled eggs were extremely dry, toast was burnt, and food did not come out very hot. Service was also slow.
Ambiance was wonderful though and I'd go back and try something different.
I loved the service and ambiance. The set up of the restaurant was comfortable and open. The food is amazing, great place to go with friends.
A fun place to facilitate fun memories. It was my first time going to Starbelly, and I will definitely be back!
Great prices great food though very noisy
In a city with so many great restaurants I would not recommend Starbelly. OK place, nothing bad... just very mediocre.
Delicious food and excellent service. We especially liked the corn and ricotta dumplings and the salmon. It got really loud.
Lovely as always!
This has been a place where I have been going regularly...but this visit was really bad and most likely won’t return. Our server couldn’t answer any questions regarding the food and ignored us the entire evening. The mussels were small, over cooked and shriveled up, lacking flavor and texture. The pizza was disappointing as the dough was extremely soggy.....so sad to see this restaurant go south.
Creative menu options between pizzas, salads, and other Californian dishes. I highly recommend the corn / cilantro pizza and the barley salad. The outdoor patio seating was perfect for a nice day. Really friendly, attentive staff.
This is a local gem in the heart of The Castro. I love taking all my friends and co-workers here.
Fried chicken was dry and did not have much taste. Waitress knew chicken was bland and offered to bring sauce. The cornbread was dry and celery slaw dresser was overpowering with vinegar.
Waitress also tried to take back 3 dumplings that were given to us on the house and said they weren’t for us but for another table. Fortunately we ate them.
Other than that ambiance was. Do not recommend due to poor value for dining. I would go back for a glass of wine and appetizers though
We were a party of 6 and the service was impeccable. Food was tasty and did not disappoint. High point of the meal was the sticky toffee pudding!
Wonderful food in the Castro. A very welcoming environment.
Food was bland.
This was my third time trying this place. I really wanted to like it which I think is why I gave it 3 chances. All my visits here sucked. First and foremost the service is awful. Pretentious millennials that feel you should feel lucky they are serving you. No gay people in sight despite the fact they are in the middle of the gayest neighborhood in SF. Everyone is a straight techie. I felt unwelcome as a gay man. Then there is the marginal food. Not bad per se but not worth the high prices. Oh and did I mention the service? One of the couples in our party got sick and had to cancel last minute. Even though we had a reservation they made us stand and wait 30 to 40 minutes because we were now 2 people instead of 4! But low and behold the 4 top they were going to seat us at could have easily been split into 2 tables for 2. See my picture. Then there was the fact that before seating us they sat at least 3 straight couples that didn’t have a reservation. To me just flat out anti gay bias!!!!! The aesthetics of the place are nice but the people are evil don’t make the mistake I did by giving them your business!!!
From my first step in the door, to being taken to a sweet table on the patio, everything was delightful. Service, food presentation, fabulous Bloody Mary, ambience, Starbelly has it all.
Our server was helpful, engaging and patient. She really made for a nice experience.
I have been numerous times and love the quality of the food, and friendliness of the staff!
The chorizo with egg pizza was good enough to recommend as a breakfast pizza. The loco moco was alright as well, a little small and a little sweet. I did like their take on the bloody mary.
Had a great lunch in the sidewalk seating area. The service was great and the food was wonderful.
Delicious food and impeccable service. A fun lively atmosphere. Absolutely love this neighborhood gem!
It was our second time there, because we had friends coming from Europe we tough it will be a good place and it was, we where a party of 4 and took 4 pizza's, everyone was very happy with them. We also took a bottle of pinot noir witch was very good.
The appetizers arrived quickly and were good. We had the fries and white bean puree. However the steak was full of gristle and the green beans were basically raw. I still have no idea who our server was, since we had no fewer than 6 different people take our orders, bring the food, bring water, and a different one still for the check. Overall the service was more disappointing than the food.
Good environment and even better food! Brunch style and good drinks 👍🏼
Food was good, especially the corn dumplings, delicious!
Service was excellent!
Food quality has gone down immensely! Food was not up to the pricing standard. Seems they are reaching out to the rich millenials and not really to us normal folks who have lived in this neighborhood for year. I had the locomoco which was $17!!!!!! and it was simply a small mound of rice, hamburger patty (not cooked to my specs) with a fried egg. soy sauce included. 17$$$????? Give me a break.
I will never return to Starbelly. Ever!
We love the patio for brunches.
Still delicious as ever!
I had never been there for dinner, and it was fabulous. Brunch was spectacular so I thought it would be fun to try for dinner. I took my sister and brother-in-law for dinner. They had never been there and felt the same way I did. We all had different mains. I had the salmon, which was so sweet and wonderful. My sister had an assortment of three different vegetable dishes, and my brother-in-law had the steak. We all loved our meals. I will definitely be back!
Starbelly serves good comfort food at moderate prices providing good value for your money; a great choices for families or young clientele.
Great and the service was great!
Great food and fun atmosphere. Very very loud inside.
Much better for breakfast / brunch. Dinner menu was underwhelming.
Went on. Friday mid day...perfect as restaurant probably quieter than on weekend/evening!
Food superb, complemented by helpful service. Planning my next available weekday mid-day visit!
Old neighborhood get together
This is a lovely dining experience with very good food, excellent service and comfortable ambiance. Always a good choice.
Early for our reservation & they saated us immediately.
Lunch hour, i expect food not to take half hour after ordering.
Portions of food & drink, not ample, but quality was good.
