We have been going to Stanley’s since they opened. It was literally our most favorite restaurant for dinner in the area. We’d eat there 2-3 time a month. Early this year, they changed their platform, chef and overall meals and menu. We’ve been there twice. The first was awful. It’s been 3 months and we decided to try it one more time, hoping the last time was a fluke. We are so disappointed at how bad the food tasted. Not one of the four of us finished or meal. The worst was a seafood stuffed steak that came as a tiny tough steak with a creamy slop on top. Not seafood stuffed at all. If there was seafood in the topping, it was too little to notice. We are sad to say, we don’t see us going back unless there is a full revamping of the chef and menus. What a true disappointment in the changes to Stanley’s. They went from the best to the worst. Not just a decrease in quality but to literally bad food. Tough meat, dry salmon, no flavor to rice or potatoes and way undercooked or way over cooked vegetables. Very sad to see this happen. Good-bye Stanley’s.
I was quite disappointed as I had gone on line to select my meal before I arrived at the restaurant based on the on line menu on the restaurant web site. When I opened the menu at the restaurant the menu did not match the online version. Two of the items I wanted were no longer on the menu, beet salad and roasted veggie wellington. The website needs to be updated. What I ordered was good but not really what I wanted.
The service was excellent. The only thing I would comment on is that the stuffed pork tenderloin was dry.
There has been a major turnover of staff. Staff in training. Inventory is in need of growth.
I’ve eaten there before and been happy. This last visit on Mother’s Day (with reservations) was not impressive. No one greeted us when we walked in. Took forever to get drinks. No one explained there was “buffet only” until menu was requested. $35 per person and food was ok, not worth the money. Line was slow due to inexperienced carver or dull knife. Ran out of some food items during brunch hours and still charged $3 for each beverage. My bill was $172 for four ladies and no alcohol. I would not have made reservations if I knew buffet was only option
I ordered the prime rib. It was tough and chewy. The worst I've ever had. My wife ordered a seafood pasta dish that she couldn't finish because the flavor was too intensely citrus. When she told the waitress that fact the waitress immediately brought us our check as if to dismiss us. She never asked us if we wanted desert, which we did. We got our desert at Luka's down the street.
The waitress was very pleasant. As she took our order nothing was written down. We joked about everything being remembered. Sure enough she came back later and asked...what wine did you order? Then she came back and said...we don't have that wine you selected....a bottle of "Scott Harvey Barbara"
Selected a glass of lesser vintners. Loss of $27 dollars to the business.
Wife ordered the chicken marsala. Chicken was tough. Needed a steak knife to cut it.
I ordered Filet mignon.
The menu did not mention it was bacon wrapped. I don't like pork with my beef. Wrapping with bacon is a way to use the end cut of the tenderloin. Some fat and connective tissue was un edible. The bacon mostly was raw..
The baked potato was sliced open and laid flat.
Not the expected quality for a Steak House.
The menu on line is not the menu presented at the table
Will pass it up in the future.
Beautiful, historic building. Incredible service! Bar has a speak-easy feel. Salmon was tasty. We'd definitely go back!
Our server was great, but she was way overworked and couldn't give us the attention we should have received. Our meal was downright gross. I mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday and no one went out of their way to do anything.
The kitchen staff needs to be re-assessed. When you're paying 40 dollars for a steak, you would expect it to be perfectly cooked or at least someone to come check in to ask how everything is so you could send it back.
We really like the servers that we had. But, they were stretched too thin and could not pay enough attention to our party of seven. Food was good. We will be back
Group of 6 enjoyed their meals. A bit of a mix up on one persons dinner but overall very good. Was a slow night so we were seated right away and did not feel rushed at all.
I would recommend Stanley's Steakhouse to a friend in the hope that they would have a better experience. The bartender was cordial and efficient and was on the mark with service. We had reservations for dinner and were seated after checking in and drinks at the bar. Our waitress was cordial, knowledgeable, and pleasant. After ordering it took an hour to receive our salad, and another 45 minutes to receive dinner. My steak was cold, rare and not medium rare as ordered. Other tables that came in after us were served before us. I don't know if they were understaffed or new to the job. The restaurant was very nice and staff cordial and apologetic. I will try once more before checking this place off the list.
Meal wasn't hot, steaks were not tender, gravy salty. For the price, it was not up to par.
Customer service was really great, ambiance lovely.
This is a very nice restaurant for celebrating special occasions. The staff were very friendly while still being professional.
The food was amazing! Our party of 4 each ordered different dishes, and we all raved about how good it all was. The service was a little slow. But that was okay because we weren't in a rush. We will definitely be returning for another great meal.
The service couldn’t have been worse. Chicken Alfredo had NO chicken, the soup never came and when asked the busboy answered that they ran out. The waitress never bothered to check anything was going to comp me dessert but disappeared for 20 minutes and everything took so long that I just wanted to leave. It is poorly managed
Worst service ever. They were so busy they didn't even know which way they were coming or going. People got seated and served before us that should have been after us. It was so loud you couldn't hear. And there was only a certain menu you could have when you got there that was different from the menu online. The service totally was unorganized. The food was good but sort of overcooked. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Hate to have to say this, but we tried Stanley’s again after 2 or 3 earlier so-so experiences here. This last dinner was Valentine’s Day, so special dinner occasion. $75 per person so even though it was the most expensive in the area, we were good with this.
The wait was long for our drinks, and later on when we finally got to our entree which was the Beef Wellington and lobster, the pastry on ours was raw! The portion was small and the meat inside raw as well! Worst yet, there were 6 of us, and 5 of us had the same experience with the Wellington. One at table refused the meal entirely. One had the rib eye, and it was very very thin cut, not what you would expect for $75?
Long story short, we are done coming here. We called the Manger over to our table and he was nice and apologized for our meals and discounted them. We obviously were very unhappy that this evening was basically a huge disappointment. We all left wishing we had gone to our other choice we had discussed. The 2 stars is only for the desert and the wine!! What a shame to pay $500 and get this.
It was a very nice evening
Staff and food were perfect
We will be back and have told are friends
Located at historic Jackson downtown; basement of Tne National Hotel turned into restaurant. Nice ambiance; friendly , responsive staff; the shrimp pasta and clam linguine we had were great; the creme brulee we had for dessert however can be improved --- it had a pastey texture.
My an my husband went here 3 years ago for our anniversary and then again this time for my birthday. Both times the food was outstanding and mouthwatering! Only problem I had was some groups came in and were loud talkers so it was a bit loud and overwhelming. But other than that I had an amazing experience as always! Love this place!
There aren't many dinner choices along the Hwy. 88 corridor from Jackson to Kirkwood, so we decided to try Stanley's for a New Years Eve dinner. We arrived a bit early for our 7 pm reservation and decided to have a drink in the bar. The bar had guests at all of the bar seats ( maybe 10-12) and it appeared one bartender who was obviously busy tending to all of them and the entire restaurant. There was no problem getting a drink ! By 7 pm when we were seated there were more guests arriving so the restaurant was definitely getting busier. The "prawn" and sea scallop appetizer was quite good, although we were served a shrimp not a prawn. The entree choices ( roast chicken, sea bass, or beef short ribs) were understandable for a New Years Eve, but did not show off what the kitchen may be capable of. The beef short ribs were delicious although the roast chicken could have been more flavorful. The bread pudding dessert was delicious also. Service was very good the entire evening !
Fantastic service! Our waitress went above and beyond for our group. The 14 oz New York steak was seasoned to perfection and cooked exactly how we asked. Recommend this restaurant to any meat eater!
It was my Wife and I first time here. My folks have been number of times and recommend it. We took there for a after "Christmas " lunch. Food and everything was great! We will come back for dinner some time soon.
Meat was undercooked. Waitress took our order and did not return until we asked someone.
My mother and I went to Stanley's Steakhouse for Christmas Day dinner, which had a limited menu. Service was slow at the beginning and it took about 30 minutes for the server to come and take our orders. However, service time was back up to speed after our order was taken. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu and my mother had the maple-glazed blackened salmon, and both were very good. I had lemon meringue pie for dessert, which was good. My mother had pecan pie that she immediately recognized was a Sara Lee frozen pie you can buy at your local grocery store, so she was a bit annoyed with her dessert. The dining room was about half full so it wasn't as noisy as I imagine it would be if the entire room was full of people.
I don’t usually complain or write bad reviews but our Christmas Eve dinner at the highly rated Stanley’s Steakhouse was quite likely the worst meal I have ever experienced. We arrived at 6:00 pm ; I made reservations several weeks in advance not like we were walk ins and were seated at a small table in the corner by the door to the wine cellar. Even though it was Christmas Eve our server was non existent for our entire meal Three entrees were available Salmon, Chicken and Prime Rib. With only 3 items to cook how could it be bad. I ordered Prime Rib medium and was brought a overcooked piece of shoe leather that had no color on one side and was obviously the end cut trimmed on the other side. Dry, overcooked, salty and fatty hardly Prime Rib I have had better beef jerky at a 7-11. My wife Salmon was served over some vegetables but they forgot the rice or potato that was supposed to come with it. Our server never checked to see how are food was if we were needing anything or wanted another glass of wine or desert. We had to beg to get the check again no one ever spoke to us after we ordered. Save you money don’t bother with this tired old shadow of its former glory. If Stanley was still around he would say this was disgraceful. The Lone Wolf Steakhouse at The Jackson Rancheria was a first class dining experience with excellent service. I would truly like the owner to explain how such substandard food and service could be considered acceptable even on Christmas Eve why ??? If you want good food head over the Sutter Creek Hotel or The Jackson Rancheria and forget about Stanley’s. I wish I had a picture to post. So disappointed.
Food was great and kitchen staff was very accommodating. My only complaint (and it's a minor one) was the ambiance. The lights were quite bright and the music didn't seem to fit the setting (we were in the basement of a Gold Rush era building around Christmas time). Overall, quite good though.
I love this place . Food is great, service is fantastic, quiet and cozy
They did not have the reservation from Open table when we got there, however, they could take us.
Whose responsibility is it to see that the restaurants get the reservations--theirs or yours? I'm just curious.
Made reservations for my Birthday ,nice old style atmosphere but when they seated us in a booth the seats were old and ripped open the silverware was dirty and the service was very slow ,had to waved them down to come service our water and drinks. For the price i paid was almost $100 for 2 14oz steaks and two soft drinks and no alcohol, Did not even recognized my birthday even after reservations and telling them! Would not recommend this restaurant!
The food is excellent and keeps us coming back to Stanley's at least once a week. Among our favorites are the crab cakes (best we've every had) and the always-perfectly-cooked blackened salmon. The bread and salads are great, too. Service is always wonderful, and we love the location in the historic hotel.
20 min wait for the bartender to finely take our drink order.
the bar had 9 people including us in there. When we sat down at the bar, we noticed there wasn't a bartender tending the bar? it took the bartender 10 mins to make an appearance and when she did she didn't Acknowledgest us for another 5 minutes.
She took one drink order from the waitress (Tonic water) with a twist the whole time as we sat waiting for her to take our order. Hopefully this was just a fluke...
Our dinner Was OK, a bit pricey for what we ordered.the salads are very good.the bread was different then the usual bread then you normally would get at a Steakhouse, Our starter was delicious an order of calamari with 2 dipping sauce. Our dinner was bit Disappointing as the prime rib and My steak were Tough. We Brought it home for dogs they loved it.
The Staff is always wonderful and Eric was especially attentive and charming! The food was great too!
The Prime Roast Beef was incredible! Wait staff was attentive and super nice.
Amazing steaks!!!!!!! Can't wait to go back again.
Poor food, overly priced. Booked dinner for Thanksgiving, no menu, only buffet, better meal at Home TownBuffet for half the price. Never again, stay away!!
My family and I have gone here for the last 3 thanksgivings, The staff here is amazing and always top notch. And the restaurant and hotel are an amazing setting for the holiday. The food for the previous 2 years was delicious and worth the 50.00$ per person fee. This year is was horrible. I’m not sure if they’ve changed chefs but it just wasn’t good at all. And the desserts were abysmal, they could have went to Costco and bought better desserts. My party spent almost 500$ for severely sub par food, and wished we would have just went to KFC. We will not be back next year. I feel horrible to write a bad review because the wait staff was truly amazing but sadly thanksgiving comes down to the food and I can’t recommend it at all.
Really good food. Limited beer selection. Charming historic ambience though the furniture is not in keeping.
Food was fabulous...but our server was busy and seemed a little long to get our salads and water glasses refilled.
