This will be one of the bad news, good news reviews.
First visit to Stanford’s and likely last. First, was met in a non accommodating way by host. We arrived 15 minutes early and had reservation, but were told to wait, despite restaurant not being busy. Then we were seated as wait as walk in guest arriving after us, in need of same table size were seated ahead us.
This family dinner last was quickly becoming a forgettable dining experience. In Stanford’s defense, I hope they figure things out as the appetizers were as good as I have had anywhere. Unfortunately, that was the last good thing on the food front. 4 out 5 of our main courses were messed up. Everything that could be wrong was... Prime rib was cold first and then when delivered hot, it was unbelievable bland (dining guest wouldn’t eat, but dogs loved). Next, requested baked potato with everything on the side and instead got mashed potatoes. When they delivered bake potato, it had everything on it. Even the burger ordered without blue cheese had it included.
Clearly the kitchen was not running well last night.
The reason why I didn’t completely pan Stanford’s on this review is they tried make everything right by adjusting my bill, without me requesting it. Oddly, service was good when we got attention, but unfortunate the pace was too slow. Management did try, but the food at a restaurant is why you return. With all the other great choices in Walnut Creek, I wonder how long Stanford’s will be in business, if others experiences are as poor as my dining experience was.

Enjoyed our dinners for the most part. I was disappointed with the house slaw today with my rib dinner. It usually is very tasty but this time it was a bit bitter and not very good tasting. Overall our dinner was very good. It was an enjoyable evening.
Stanford's in Walnut Creek is the most poorly managed restaurant that I have been to in many years. Consequently, our experience was poor. Food was mediocre at best, and overpriced for the lack of quality provided. Service was poor due to the lack of competent management. Our first visit to Stanfdord's. And our last.
We were very pleased with the customer service. We had a party of 12 and were very late for our 5:15 reservation as we had a hard time getting out of San Francisco. They held our table for us which was greatly appreciated.
The food was less than stellar and not worth the $631 we spent. I will not be returning.
The service was good, its a nice restaurant for a small get together.
The drinks and service were great. I would have expected a $30 7oz filet mignon to have been a much better cut and cooked properly all the way through. It wasnt any better than Outback. And the green beans were overcooked and drenched in oil. The prime rib was pretty good. It's a nice restaurant and we appreciated the ambiance, but a little disappointed in the food.
We have liked Stanfords, and have gone to several in Restaurants Unlimited chains over the years. Sadly, this one has seen better days and is in need of an update. The staff is friendly, and the food is ok, but the place is really dark, and in need of some cleaning, maintenance and repair. This is the second time we have been there where the air conditioning blasts freezing air in the middle of winter, and the dining area was not all that pleasant. We ended up cutting our meal short just to get outside where it was warmer and raining.
It used to be a really nice place to go, but now it seems they only use the middle room booths and the bar during the day, which are dark and not very private for conversations if more than a few people are there. We have been seated in the booths the last few times we have gone, and the main area in back seems to be not used. The last time we were seated there was in 2012.
We will still go, because there are a few items we enjoy, but we won't be recommending it for visitors any more. It probably has too much competition from the newer restaurants in the area to survive without a remodel and new energy. It would be nice to be able to see outside, have a little more natural light, and not freeze from the vents. The newer remodeled downtown area really makes this one look tired.
The updated menus seem to also be going for a lower-priced appetizer-deal crowd rather than the fine dining crowd, so maybe the demographic has changed and it is no longer for us. I hope they can update and stick around.
Disappointed in the special menu "steak tacos", which came without any side dish (menu mentioned a type of cole slaw but that was actually in the tacos themselves. Also, last time I was at Stanford's, a year ago, I used a gift card which after paying, was returned to me with $14 of money supposedly left on it. Yesterday our waitress said there was zero residual money left on the card, which makes me wonder if our waitress last time somehow stole that money yet returned the empty card with a statement showing the "should be" residual value. Very disturbing, and it makes me wonder if gift cards are really a bargain or not, if there is no way to double check the actual remaining value.

Sanford’s does something that is a large turn-off.
In California there is a high minimum wage for employees.
In my opinion that is the restaurants owners responsibility .
Sanford put a sign on the table advising all customers that they add 2.9% to the bill

They also note that this does not count as their gratuity so they want you to tip them above that also
This will make me not come back.
It is the owners responsibility to pay for the employees if they were that concerned they should just raise the prices of the food
It was a Sunday night, and the place was full. Even though we were 8 minutes late for our reservation we had to wait, and then walked past a hole line of empty tables on our way to be seated. The service isn't quite what it used to be. The staff were nice, but they seemed rushed and not the normal attentive staff we are used to. The food was different, my basmati rice was very oily, and the burger on the Kruise burger was bland. Lastly, when my plate was brought to me, I was told that it was hot...and I looked at it as she placed it in front of me and her thumb was "in" my rice. Again, just a little off, and I hope it was because they were busy. We will be back as it's been a favorite for years.
Service was decent, drinks were good and the food was amazing.
Bar service and experience was better than the table dining. Sparking water was very expensive and entree name was misleading. A steak and shrimp “scampi” that literally only had one noodle. The red snapper jambalaya was very good though.
I love that they never rush you at this restaurant. And no matter how long I stay they keep refilling my Diet Coke, water whatever I’m drinking.
Fillet mignon was perfect. Service was excellent and very friendly. Low noise level allowed for easy conversation with friends. Parking in parking structure next door easy. Perfect for a quiet new year.
Seating very crowded and seated on main aisle...lots of traffic thhroughout lunch. Service not up to usual experience. Disappointing.
We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner. All our food was cooked perfectly according to our specific orders. Thank you for a great experience!
Christmas eve and not many restaurants open. Chose Stanford's. Heard it wasa pretty good restaurant. Very dark, loud music playing constantly. Football on the TV. Very dark, badly lit. Personnel very friendly and helpful.Menu very limited andexpensive.Had the special Prime Rib.Had very little taste. Partner hAd the Halibut, very little taste. Very good wine. service good.
My teen chose this restaurant for her birthday. In an attempt to make it special, I called and spoke to the manager in the afternoon prior to our 6:30pm reservation to let her know that it was a sorcial occasion.
Again, upon entering the restaurant, I told the hostess, who replied that she would let our server know. The keal was fine, as was the server, but not a mention was made nor was a dessert brought out. I didn't want to being it up in front of my daughter, so we just left. I would not choose this restaurant for a special occasion again.
Exceptionally nice and attentive server. Delicious cocktails. The ribs were also very good.
As always, the food was wonderful. Only disappointments were :
No Christmas decorations up yet. The waiter said they were still in the box in the hall and it was already Dec. 12.
Then the walnut crusted brie was overcooked, dark and tasted burnt.
But the Rasberry Crush cocktail was yummy, and the Dijon chicken was excellent.
Ashley did a great job handling all 11 of us. And the hostess set us up in a nice table and location.
We went here for my birthday because we'd never tried it. The food was nothing extraordinary but we all had a good time. The restaurant is a little on the dark side, which I don't usually like. I liked that they were able to accommodate our big group.
Prompt service, friendly staff, generous portions...a nice holiday lunch!
It was a great meal everyone enjoyed their lunch and the service was great as usual. We were celebrating our grandsons 16th Birthday and he really enjoyed his meal as did all 6 of us.
As usual.. great service, great food and great ambiance!!!
Everyone enjoyed the food and the chance for quiet conversation. Our server, Aarron, was very attentive and our food was served very promptly.
My wife and I have been enjoying the food , friendly servers and pleasant atmosphere since Stanford's opened a long time ago. We feel that Macerich, the owner of Broadway Plaza has neglected Stanford's by blocking them behind what used to be a parking lot with a fence around it containing building supplies.
We had an exceptional experience at Stanford’s on Thanksgiving. We we’re seated promptly and everyone was very accommodating. We will be back!
