Stanford Grill Ratings and Reviews
We are pretty frequent visitors of the Stanford Grill and unfortunately, during the past year, the food has been hit or miss and the wine always seemed past its prime. However, this time the food was fantastic and the wine was good! My only complaint is that it is always so loud that it is difficult to hear the person sitting across the table from you. My husband and I would go there a lot more if we didn't have to yell at each other to be heard.
From scratch kitchen and prepared to order means that the vegetarian, the keto low carb person, and the comfort foodie in our group all get what they can really enjoy just the way they want it.
Live jazz for Sunday brunch, too.
Service is so attentive and friendly. They always check for food allergies before we start. Stellar! This place never disappoints.
Overall excellent experience. We had a reservation and showed up 5 minutes early, though found it odd that multiple parties walked in after us and were seated before us. We ended up being seated about 15 minutes after our reservation at table big enough for six or more. We were just two. Food was good and cooked properly. The calamari seemed to be run of the mill deep or pan fried variety while the ribeye was a good cut.
Never disappoints. Can't say enough about this place. The menu isn't huge, nor does it need to be. First rate kitchen and service staff. I tend to order the beef tenderloin on most of our visits. If you don't like blue cheese melted on your beef, let them know. I happen to love that combo. It is always spot on when asking for medium rare. Hubby ordered the baby back ribs this time. Delicious. They could provide a bit more sauce on the side. I rated the noise level moderate, but we dine early. By 7:30 - 8:00 the decibels are much higher making conversation a little harder. We were there on a Monday night, and the place was full by time we left. There's live music--jazz oriented. Most diners are dressed business casual, but there were some tables with folks in jeans and baseball caps. So, even though the decor is moderately upscale, the accepted dress is open to all.
We have enjoyed our experience at Stanford Grill on 3 occassions. Each time feeling welcomed, friendly staff, and delicious food. While the prices are higher than what we like to spend, the quality and value are presented. I like jazz and look forward to dining. Would like to hear more live music. Rumor of opening a new site in Owings Mills is exciting.
I usually enjoy this Stanford Grill when I am in the area. We were greeted by a friendly hosted and she sat us at our table and told us our waitress’ name. There was a slight wait even through the restaurant was about a quarter full so someone noticed and came to take our drink order. After about five minutes later, our waitress came and introduced herself with a different name/nick name. We politely inquired if she was the same person that the hostess mentioned would assist us for the evening. She was snippy because she does not prefer to be called the name we were given because people, including the hostess do not pronounce it properly. We were taken aback by her display. She ran through the specials and never came back. We were not rude to her, gave her eye contact, and continued to be polite while she was taking. We waited another five minutes and were getting ready to leave due to the unwarranted service, but another waiter came and had a completely different attitude. We asked if she was ok and explained the exchange and he said she was tired and was leaving for the night. She didn’t leave. She walked back and forth throughout our meal. It was bizarre and I still do not understand but other then that, the meal was lovely.
First impressions count! I might have to reconsider this location for future dining.
We have been to Stanford Grill many times and have always enjoyed our meals. If anything, the restaurant has improved its service. It now offers valet service which is helpful because the parking area is usually full. Our dinner, NY strip steak and prime rib, was excellent. For the first time, my steak was too well done. After apologies from our server and the manager, the steak was prepared correctly. At the end of the dinner, I noted that the steak was deducted from our bill, a $35.00 item, without any request or complaint from me. This is a restaurant that knows how to make its customers return for another meal.
We were disappointed on this visit. The service was not up to par as it usually is and the food was average at best. The server was not attentive and we had to ask for bread and drink refills. Moreover, some of our food was cold, like the French fries. This was one of our favorite restaurants but we are not sure if we will return.
First time at Stanford Grill, definitely NOT my last. The service was excellent- Zach left me and my date to our conversation and knew precisely when we were ready to order. The food was excellent- we both had fish dishes. The only complaint was that the volume of the restaurant was surprisingly noisy. I LOVED the added touch of the jazz trio! Very classy, and glad that Stanford supports local live music!
Another great meal! My party and I were greeted as soon as we walked into the restaurant. We were seated promptly. Our main wait staff-Nass-was friendly and courteous. She made us feel very welcomed and gave excellent service. Our food was served in a timely matter, and not too fast so we were able to finish what we had in front of us. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and we would return to the restaurant again.
The rattlesnake pasta was bland. The ingredients all sounded flavorful but the dish was disappointing. The rotisserie chicken that was supposed to be the flavorful part of the dish was just bland slices of hard chicken that could have come from a bag instead juicy shredded chicken from the rotisserie. The drinks were inconsistent and they seemed to mix up the types of beer they were serving at the bar. Bar service was very slow. The waiter in the dining room was extremely knowledgeable of the dishes and wines. The service in the dining room was very good. Desserts were tasty but the portions are huge.
Although I generally like this restaurant I found that the three (or four) hostesses rather useless. They were more concerned with looking down at their desk than offering hospitality and greeting. Once seated Louis was an excellent waiter and the rest of the dining experience was flawless. Your weak link is the front desk who seemed overwhelmed - it was a Sunday evening and not that busy.
Stanford Grill is one of the nicer restaurants in the Columbia area. If you don’t want to trek to DC or Baltimore, the Stanford Grill is solid choice. The service is always attentive but the food can be hit or miss. On our last visit my wife was severely disappointed with an over cooked lamb shank. Though I was pleasantly surprised with my chicken sandwich. Stanford Grill is a good restaurant in Howard County but falls short being great because of its lack of consistency.
We'd been to Stanford Grill a few times several years ago. Recently we went here again, this time for a dinner with out-of-town family. The ambiance has always been busy and a bit loud, which we don't mind too much, but we were really surprised by the food.
Appetizers: we shared the crab dip, the spinach/artichoke dip, and the chicken meatballs. The crab dip was phenomenal, but we had to request more bread because it only came with 5 pieces. The veggie dip was also tasty, but was served with chips and salsa/sour cream. We found that to be a strange combination, but the dip was good so we didn't mind. The meatballs were meh, nothing wrong with them but really nothing special either.
Drinks: the ladies enjoyed the Peartinis and Fleur de Lis. The Moscow Mule had way too much lime juice, and the Old Fashioned was among the worst I've ever had. I couldn't finish it, so I ordered a Manhattan for dessert. It was drinkable, but not great.
Entrees: several of us had the prime rib, and found it to be a bit tough/chewy (strange, since prime rib is nearly always tender and moist). Another of us had the NY strip, which was almost inedible it was so tough. About 20% of the steak ended up back on the plate because it was too hard to eat. The market fish was pretty good, no real complaints there.
Sides: the lobster mac was excellent, the zucchini/squash was nothing special, mashed potatoes drenched in the au jus from the prime ribs were good.
Overall, it feels like the quality of the food has sunken over time. I doubt we'll return - the cheap cuts of meat aren't worth the price, which isn't even as high as comparable places nearby.
Very responsive staff. Made us feel welcomed. All parties enjoyed their dishes. Restaurant was chosen due to it being nicely located between northern va. and Baltimore. Very crowded, but the kitchen was organized and food came out in a timely fashion. Nicely done.
I don't have the words to describe our experience at Stanford Grill. My husband and I were in town celebrating our wedding anniversary. The restaurant was beyond our expectation everything from the service, to the food and the ambiance. Best dining experience ever.
Thank you to our server Brandon who was the kindest, warmest and absolute best.
