The place was shutdown!!
Loved this unique restaurant experience. The food was well prepared and the staff was very friendly!!! Glad I tried this restaurant that was a bit out of my food comfort area.
Loved the presentation of the main meal!
Restaurant was quiet when we arrived, but service was still very slow... overall the food was ok but having requested a “spicier” dhansak....it came out completely unspicy.
We had a enjoyable meal still.....but it could have been better.
Delicious food, we tried a bit of everything for starter and shared all main courses, great food for a very reasonable price, GO THERE !
Chairs were worn out and dirty, Toilets were modern but not kept clean. Restaurant could do with an upgrade. Starters were good, main courses were extremely salty. The chef did apologies and agreed. He cooked another main course which was a lot better. They even gave us a discount on the bill. Service was friendly.
We loved the Nepalese specialty recommended to us by the waiter, the choila, but thought the Nepali dim sums (momos) were not that tasty, the dough was too thick. Overall, good experience. Would return to try other items.
Long -established, and still serving great Indian food, no compromises.
Best Indian in Reading. Great food, service and value.
Lovely, fresh food with great service. Can highly recommend.
Just fabulous , lovely settings fantastic hosts and beautiful food
Staff were friendly and accommodating. As we were working later the guest and i had coke to drink which was flat. The starter was disappointing.... papadums were nice but the side orders were odd - especially the crunchy carrot, covered in spice.
Main course was the highlight - i enjoyed mine - very tasty, just the right heat. Perhaps next time I'll just go for main course and dessert! Price was good too.
One of the best meals and friendly service I/We have had the pleasure to receive.
The food at the Standard is really good and is matched by good service. I say go hungry as the portions are generous. We tried to stick to the Nepalese elements of the menu and would recommend giving them a try, however, Momo should be ordered as a starter rather than main as the dumplings are by their very nature are hearty and filling.
Excellent food, excellent service...good value.
The Standard Super Dry Fry is my favourite meal of all meals.
Fine dining curry experience....excellent food and very friendly and attentive staff....this restaurant is a MUST
We went as a large group, the booking was easy and we were well cared for. However one the night the service was extremely slow. However the food was excellent so I would definitely return
Food was good but didn't like the long waits in between ordering and waiting for the bill. It was my first time there and few mistakes were made but understandable just didn't like all the waiting. The staff the served us was good
Hadn't been to the Standard for about 3 years. Went with friends and found the service very slow and I was served the wrong beer. No apologies when this was mentioned. Food was as good as I remember but I don't think I'll come back, sadly.
We visited this restaurant as a group of 4, and had an excellent meal. We all ordered something different and each dish was very tasty. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us,
Ganesh even came out to the car to say goodbye. Will definitely visit again when in the area.
I must start by saying I have not been here for some years, but back then it was good - just don't know what happened. The decor is very tired and the food was below par really.
it's the same all the time there's no ambience at and for some reason the food is alwsys cold even though it takes a very long time to cook
Booked online, dinner for 2 couples.easy peasy.Friendly waiter saw us to our table. We all had a good mix of a vast menu. The food was freshly cooked so had a little wait but great flavours.
we have eaten here before and ordered the set menu for 2 people,£19.50.we thought this to be the better option overall.
The Standard Tandoori is the best curry restaurant we have eaten at in Reading over the last 10 years .
I booked a table for 10 at the Standard Tandoori for a office evening out. When we got there the table was ready and throughout the evening the staff were friendly, we got drinks and the usual pompadoms pretty quickly, however we had to wait around 45 minutes from ordering our mains to them arriving. However when they did finally arrive the food was of a good standard and very tasty. I would go again, but possibly not with a large group.
We were expecting it to be busy and very good food. Neither of these were for us the case.
The service was excellent.Starters of Samoosas and Papdoms were fine but the main courses were disappointing in the extreme!!!!!! Carol's prawns were completely obliterated by a Marsala Sauce hiding rather a small portion. I had to have some of it to make my house special mixed grill edible at all. It came as a bone dry as dust offering of various cuts of curried chicken, a small minced lamb kebab and one tiny lonely solitary prawn. There was no variety of taste at all and it all tasted the same a very unimaginative basic curry. I cook far far better myself!!!!!!! Won't be going back and won't recommend it even to my enemies.
I used to frequent this restaurant years ago and went back recently with my wife to re-live the experience. Sadly it has declined a little although it still presents competent food at a reasonable price. Overall quality and attention to detail seems to have declined a little which is a bit sad.
Your Tandoori Mixed Grill used to be a star dish and was the reason I returned so many time in the past. Sadly it's gone a bit downhill over the last few years:
1. The lamb was tough and chewy
2. The accompanying salad has got very poor and sad. This used to be a succulent delight of onions, tomatoes and cucumber, fresh and delicious but is now a sorry little affair, almost an afterthought. A meat dish like this needs a good side salad.
Excellent food, service and price favourite curry in reading by far.
Really glad I made the decision to visit Standard Tandoori. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the friendly service and delicious food are the secret behind this place's success. Can definitely recommend the chilli naans! Go for it.
Good service and friendly staff. They didn't know they had a Top Table offer on though, but were prepared to knock 20% off as a good-will gesture, until they found the offer online! Despite this, the food was amazing and they do take-away for your left overs - the portions are generous, so this gave us another meal the next day! The Tandoori mixed grill is a must!
My wife and i had a meal here, i loved mine, wife found her mixed grill a little spicy, but spice is a matter of personal taste, so i have no problems with that. Good choice of food, staff friendly and helpful. I hope to come back again, and would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Food was great and no issues on the choice or menu even the Farl went down well. Nice to see the place has had a revamp but those chairs are 10 years old And make it look a little like a 70's working men's club!
I visited Standard Tandoori in Reading with 2 others and we all enjoyed the food. Service was friendly and attentive though it took a while for the food to arrive. Food was cooked and presented well. I enjoy my food very hot and I wasn't disappointed. My wife likes her food lightly spiced and there was plenty for her on the menu.
A good experience overall
We arrived with a party of 10 at 7pm on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was pretty full and there seemed to be plenty of staff but the waiter still managed to get wrong 3 of the drinks ordered and there was no rush to take our food order or to serve it. That said, the food was very good indeed and the portions were huge. The waiters were also very friendly. We managed to park on the forecourt, which was just as well as the street parking is very limited. £200 for 10. Coffee not recommended.
Good curry house with some excellent house choices - recommend the dosh with the pickles,i think it's called asari
Excellent food and very good service. Will definitely be going back.
The Standard Tandoori Restaurant Reading - great food and friendly service!
Standard Tandoori is a Nepalese restaurant just outside of the centre of Reading. It offers an authentic Nepalese menu, with not so authentic decor. The food and service was excellent and we had an enjoyable dinner.
No mango taste in the mango lassi. The buffet tasted as though it had been sitting for hours.
We really enjoyed our meal at the Standard Tandoori and will certainly go again when next in Reading. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the food was well above average. It's the first time we're eaten Nepalese and certainly won't be the last.
Service was very polite but so over attentive as to be intrusive. As my friend and I had gone deliberately to talk through something, it was very difficult while being interrupted every couple of minutes. Food was pleasant and venue clean, but overall fairly ordinary
Standard Tandoori is a delightful family restuarant - really good food and atmosphere.
