Great time, slower service
Excellent server Matt made great recommendations and was very attentive. Thanks for the great experience.
I used to love this place but the last few times I have gone it has been less than stellar. I went in looking forward to their amazing tomato and goat cheese soup only to be told they no longer carry a variety of soups just the one... vegetable. This is after they stopped carrying their amazing artichoke soup that they said everyone loved. If everyone loved it and you always ran out why take it away? My BF and I then placed our order (couple apps and an entree) and waited quite some time and then everything came at once. I asked for an extra plate as we wanted to share the apps but that plate never came. I guess we were just supposed to use the bowl it came in and then just switch bowls or perhaps use our napkins as plates. The Ahi tuna salad which seems to have changed quite a few times over the last year (always good but never consistent) so it was always a "surprise" to see what you would get... the salad was ok but the tuna wasn't the freshest and the portion was ridiculously small compared to every other time I have ordered it. We must have unfortunately come at the time when the servers switched their shifts as our original server went MIA (well not really as I could see him chatting and getting ready to go) and then another server popped up to ask if everything was tasting ok...so how about "hi, we are changing shifts and I will be taking care of you now" or the original server could have stated that its time for him to go but this new server would be taking care of us. It was awkward as I wasnt aware that we had a new server until I finally saw our original server walk out the door. I wanted to love this place as usually the food is really good and its super close to home but we wont be going back.
The air conditioning was out (on a hot evening) and the restaurant did not offer a discount or any special accommodation. Very unprofessional staff, mediocre food. Sorry folks, you might need an actual chef and a grown-up to run the place.
The food was terrible!! What a bust!! Chicao has such amazing restaurants, this sadly was not one of them!! The waitress forgot half our meal, it tasted terrible....
Standard Market Grill offers simple, delicious and nutritious dishes. There is something for everyone at this corner restaurant just one block west of Lincoln Park on Fullerton.
The menu has an incredible selection of dishes, even designating heart healthy choices.
The service is friendly, efficient and not fussy. The restaurant is large, has great light and clean.
SMG would be a great place for a group, families with children or just a casual meal for two. Reasonably priced.
I would recommend this restaurant.
service can be a bit slow. Overall, food is quite good
Bad Mother's Day
Great for brunch for a group! Excellent service and good food. Definitely would recommend.
This was our second visit to this restaurant and they had margarita and Moscow mule specials that were a great value. We were slightly disappointed in the knife and fork fried chicken (it was very under seasoned), but my chicken sandwich was very good and very tasty. I also believe this restaurant is a good value and I never feel rushed because it's never over crowded.
It took almost an hour to get our food which was odd because it wasn't full. Food is good but the service and I'm assuming a backed up kitchen makes me hesitant to go back.
When let this place is well designed and the service is quick and friendly, my biggest problem is the menu. We went for dinner and the menu looked like a lunch menu. Everyone looked at the back for more and did not find anything. The menu is filled with salads, sandwiches, burgers, and pizza and has only 3 real entrees. Our party had two of these entrees and they were tasty though a bit cold but a little more variety would have been nice
Good for lunch meetings- salads and burgers are quite solid.
The food is always great although I feel that it changes slightly depending on who makes it. I used to love their artichoke soup but they stopped making it. It was amazing!! I wish they would bring it back. The one thing that drives me crazy is when they run out of something when it's early in the evening. How do you run out of soup at 5pm? Also, I went in yesterday and wanted to order the dinner special that was advertised and I was told it wasn't available yet. Why advertise if you don't have it??!! So annoying!
Food was decent. Nothing special. Water refills were slow
Save your money and skip the trip. Very underwhelming food. Price point is a tad high.
Online representation is that this is a place with a true chef and sustainably-raised meat options. The reality is the ambiance is more a generic diner like restaurant with all industrially raised meat. We therefore had a couple of vegetarian options which transcended somewhat the diner vibe (and price point).
A solid brunch. Breakfast pizza was unique.
busy night with only 2 waitresses on duty meant long long waits to order and eat
I loved Standard Grill and will definitely be back and recommend to friends!!
It was freezing in the empty restaurant! Our food was pretty good and the server was good. We made a reservation, but it was empty, maybe 1 other table in the restaurant.
I am so glad we found Standard Market Grill has our original choice of restaurant had a 2 hour wait. I'm familiar with the Standard Market grocery store in Westmont and have eaten at the restaurant there in the past. I was thoroughly impressed with that location and did not know they had a city location. Everything was fresh and warm when it arrived. Service was outstanding! Not knowing this location was here his wife became a second choice but now that I know it is here I will definitely not forget it!
Service was very slow despite restaurant being half empty, salads were good, veggie burger was very dry, all other entrees were not great, dessert tasted stale.
If you like you omelette of the day on the cool side than this spot is for you. Uncrowded should provided for hotter coffee and hotter eggs. Otherwise it was probably worth the price since we stayed to visit for over an hour
Cubs World Series game, got to reserve a table and they called before-hand to see if I wanted t table by the tv. Great food, great beers, wouldn't serve us shots...but I guess it was probably just because of the world series.
So great to have. A close restaurant to Lincoln park zoo!
The food is good but for some reason the menu keeps changing. I love the veggie burger. The ahi tuna salad used to be one of my favorites but they changed it and on this most recent visit the mango was so underripe it was actually crunchy and the tuna which used to be outstanding was meh at best. The location is great and when I come in the evening the drinks are good and lots of TVs. Just wish they would stick with a menu.
Standard Market is my go-to neighborhood spot for brunch, lunch AND dinner! Excellent food at reasonable prices and attentive and friendly service. I love the breakfast pizza! Beets, kale, cheese and a fried egg atop delicious crust!
Service was poor even tho the restaurant was almost empty. The food was wonderful. Will go again
I forgot how much I like this place. So close to Lincoln park zoo and with none of the crowds of closer places.
Service was very slow. My friend waited >40 minutes for a beer. One of our party of 11 - her meal was completely forgotten. Never got a water refill. Did not even seem that busy to cause this lack of attention.
Still had a good time and I will return because of the gluten free options and atmosphere. They were gracious with us even though about half our party was late.
Tasty options to satisfy a diverse group. Wine, beer and cocktail menu was strong.
I spent the entire evening swatting and killing bugs that kept landing on me, my food and the table. It was beyond disgusting and I couldn't enjoy my food as a result. I will not be going back here
Our waiter did. It out in our complete order (main dish). When we realized this -she offered little to no apology. When the pizza finally arrived - it was incorrect. The experience was disappointing to say the least. Doubtful to return.
We went to SMG after the 2016 pride parade. Service was good for a large group (10). Apps were good for sharing and the entrees were good as well. They had the windows open and lots of small tables outside. Overall a pleasant experience.
--Food is consistently good, never great
--Pretty noisy so I wouldn't pick this for a date night
--We have brought our children here before and the waitstaff was very accommodating
I hate complaining about service because it doesn't reflect the restaurant the food or ambiance of the place but our server was very slow and it was a very drawn out experience.
Was a nice place to eat.. Food was very good... Great waitress
This was a neighborhood favorite of mine. But my last visit turned me off. A waitress who never served us after the order was taken. Music so loud it was like an after-hour club and a salad that tasted like cardboard Hate to see this restaurant go by the wayside.
Level of service was okay- a little slow. Good was okay- I felt I could have made at home- basic experience We only had 5 people and an order was messed up. Not recommend for brunch- limited options.
Food was good, but the service was absolutely horrible. Wish I could give it zero stars. Our waitress ignored us the entire time and only came by our table (which was in the middle of the restaurant in clear view) after flagging her down on each occasion. She was standing near the bar texting on her phone, rolling her eyes instead of serving customers. Rude rude rude rude.
