Staghorn Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
I love this place. The owner plays an active role in assuring that everyone of his patrons are being taken care of and are happy with everything. My GF wanted steak and I searched for a steak house around Penn Station and that is how I found Staghorn. I will definitely be back and will be telling everyone how great this place is.
Another fantastic meal at Staghorn. I went there with my brother on Friday night, as we like to do every couple of months. Had the porterhouse for 2, which was cooked to medium-rare perfection and could have easily fed 4. For sides, the creamed spinach was excellent and the crispy hash browns are a must. Add a martini and a glass of cabernet and the dinner is a 10 every time. Highly recommend.
Walked in.. no ambiance. Nice wine list but really only one available? Five of us had dinner.. we did order a seafood tower so that was pricey. I had only a lobster bisque for dinner and my husband only had a mozzarella appetizer for dinner. We had filled up on appetizers.. bill was almost 700... not worth it. We dine in steak house often. Very disappointed.
I couldn't have had a better time or a better meal. The steak was perfection.
I hadn't seen my cousin in 3 yrs. We finally were in NY at the same time. The waiter was patient and very friendly. I'm afraid we sat and talked for over 2 hours, but happy that we were not rushed out. No one came with the check until I asked for it. I want to thank Staghorn's for offering such a lovely approach to its diners.
I recently visited Staghorn Steakhouse on a business trip with a colleague. The wine, food and service was outstanding. I had the Lobster Bisque and Strip Steak. The bisque was delicious. The steak was perfectly prepared, very flavorful with a very generous proportion (I left some which never happens). It came with spinach sautéed with garlic and potatoes which were also fabulous. My colleague is a vegetarian so he had a salad with Tuna (medium rare) which he very much enjoyed. The tuna was fresh and cooked to perfection.
I almost forgot the wine! Great selection, reasonable prices and a very knowledgable wine stuart to help you out.
Overall, our experience was excellent and I will definitely include Staghorn on my list of restaurants next time I'm in NYC.
Only two other customers in the restaurant but food didn't seem to receive the care it could have received from a quiet kitchen. Filet was huge, perhaps too big if that's possible. I ordered in medium but it was pretty close to rare as I worked my way toward the middle. I know baked potatoes have to be made ahead of time but mine was certainly nothing special and lukewarm at best.
I'll try the place again but make sure I go when it's a bit busier.
We had tickets for Billy Joel and came to the Staghorn for dinner. Wine list was extensive for its bottles, so-so for wine by the glass.
My wife had the crab cakes and lobster bisque. The crab cakes were a good size (2 served for dinner) and she said the were delicious, She really liked the lobster bisque as her appetizer
I had the grilled octopus as my appetizer. Absolutely delicious and a generous portion for the price and especially it being a NY restaurant!
And, yes as a steak house, I had the salmon and sautéed spinach and garlic. Outstanding!
Food and service were impeccable, but why oh why is there a television playing the Mets home opener in the bar? It just spoils the ambiance completely. When I'm dining at a restaurant that purports to be a high-end steakhouse, it's pretty disappointing when, despite the delicious food and charming service, you feel as if you've been transported to a Knights of Columbus rec room.
We got there for lunch at 11:30am. The kitchen doesn't open until noon, but the owner allowed us to be seated and talk while we waited. He was very cordial and made us feel right at home.
The service was excellent. Had soup and a salad. The lobster bisque was great.
I'd definitely make it back here soon.
This is a great restaurant with a great selection of steaks, seafood, and deserts. They have great selection of wines, and deserts as well. I have been frequenting this restaurant since they opened, and consider myself to loyal customer. The owner "Chirro" is a fantastic host!
Great job Staghorn Steakhouse, and thank you Chirro!
Staghorn Steakhouse is a hidden Gem. I tend to like places that are a little elegant, but not too stuffy and a place one can easily hold a conversation while having a meal, Staghorn satisfies both criteria. Most important is the suburb quality of the food. My fillet mignon was done to a trun and a very generous portion.
The service was attentive, they make an excelent Martini, and gave me good advice when it came time to order wine.
Keep in mind that you'll be paying steakhouse prices for your meal. It IS a steakhouse after all. ;) But the food and the atmosphere make it a great value.
Went there tonight with my brother and my best friend. We were going to an event at the Garden and looking for a nearby steakhouse. The three of us were blown away st how amazing our dinner was. We had the porterhouse for three (it was enough for 5) and it was cooked to perfection. The waiter recommended a fantastic, and affordable, Cabernet which the three of us loved. The creamed spinach and hash browns were excellent and the waiters could not have been friendlier or more helpful.
So happy to finally have a go to spot near MSG. Highly recommended.
Went to Staghorns for dinner with my coworkers, and the meal there was well done! The service was friendly and on point. The menu is well balanced whether you want to have a light meal, with drinks, or have a full blown dinner. The wine size of the wine selection was impressive and unexpected. Staghorns is a place worth trying
I have to say I am panning this review, based solely on the restaurants next-door-neighbor, a Cross-Fit Gym. We were there early, at 6:00pm, for dinner before a concert at MSG. Since there was no other table noise or entertainment, we were constantly bombarded with the noise and floor shaking from the people next-door, dropping their weights. Won't be back unless they get a quieter neighbor or move. Not pleased based on the $$ we paid for our meal.
The ambiance is quiet, soothing, and relaxed for after a long work day. Quiet enough to hear one another, but still be amongst others. Great cocktails, outstanding service, and AMAZING risotto balls with truffle aioli dipping sauce!!! I want to invite friends here for after work cocktails and even a date night with my boyfriend!
Prior to making reservations, I visited the restaurant's website. The online menu looked good
and for a Manhattan steakhouse, the prices seemed reasonable. The reason for eating there was because it was near Penn Station and I was having lunch with a business associate. Nevertheless, I was also eager to eat at Staghorn because I expected a good meal in a nice venue.
The restaurant was modern but there were few people there. The service was slow, but I did not seem to mind because it was a business lunch and we needed to discuss business matters. However, lunch was a total ripoff. Both myself and my guest ordered prime rib. It came as a luncheon portion, thin and chewy. Completely tasteless with a side of boiled green beans.
The bill for lunch was outrageous. $85 for two bad steaks and no alcoholic beverages. Just water. We could have had a better meal with more flavor and substance at Outback Steakhouse,
or a better meal at 1/3 the price at Tads or a diner. I was considering Delmonico's in the same
area or Nick and Stephs'. Foolish as it was, I wanted to try a new spot.
My wife and I eat out 3 times a week. We know what is good and what is a rip off.
I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. A complete disappointment.
I've been traveling to NY on business for the past couple of years and Staghorn is a great place I'd recommend whether you're eating alone or entertaining a large group of clients. The best part is probably the consistency - every time I go I know I'm going to get great food and great service. Additionally, it's not pretentious like so many other NYC steakhouses, you feel comfortable once you walk in the door. They also have a great wine list, with a lot of nice Italian and California reds. (note: if they have the seared tuna as a dinner special, I highly recommend it)
