Stage Left Steak Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I have not gone out in quite some time since we have a little one at home and boy were we pleasantly surprised. Former New Brunswick residents and Steakhouse 85 enthusiasts, we couldn't get a reservation at 85. We decided to take a chance at Stage Left Steak and I'm super happy we did. Choices were great, even better was that my steak was cooked to absolute perfection and so flavorful. It didnt even need the chipotle lime butter to accompany; however, that was super tasty and happy I tried it. In addition, the sides were awesome! Steak fries were super crisp so if you don't enjoy something more well done I suggest staying away. The parmesan gratin potato side comes in perfectly sliced on the mandolin piles and tasted just as good today when I finished the leftover for lunch. Also tried grilled asparagus and they were yum, yum, yum in my tum. Paired with a nice pinot noir and the other half had a Jameson on the rocks. I was stuffed but when you don't get to go out often any more got the toffee pudding dessert. Super sweet, and amazingly delightful the caramelized nuts and sauce served in for reminiscent of the bread puddings I had down in New Orleans. The only downside was I would have liked it a little darker, more candlelight-esque in there. More like the ambiance in Catherine lombardi's although I'm super happy we weren't seated right by the door as I hate that! Happy that we ended up here in the end. It was super delicious!
I don’t really understand this place. I feel like location is the biggest component it has going for it bc it’s overpriced and disjointed. Paper menus? Burger was flavorless and cooked improperly. Same for the steak. Potatoes too. What’s going on here? I shouldn’t have to season food when I’m paying more than a weeks worth of groceries for it. Server was all over the place and the martinis were on the small side. The server also removed drinks too soon. Really? It was just all a solid “meh” and didn’t meet my standards at all.
We had a great time at Stage Left. All of us had the burgers and they were delicious! So was the bottle of Pinot Noir that we ordered with the burgers! The restaurant is beautiful, the service was terrific, and the food was great - we will definitely be back!
The service and ambiance were very nice...however, $115 for a porterhouse that was not seasoned at ALL was disappointing to say the least !.....the Texas toast with bone marrow was a a disappointment as well...it might as well been buttered toast ...because that's what it tastes like....the bone marrow was almost negligible....I never mind paying $240 for a meal if the food is delicious...stage left food was not in keeping with the price we paid !!
Definitely better than the last time we were there in June of 2017 this time the food was amazing and the service was excellent we set an a nice quiet corner with beautiful lighting on the table not like in June when we were there with the doors open and ambulances and cars driving by making a ton of noise. That was for anniversary and it was not very romantic sitting in the bar when we requested to be in the formal dining room this time was a great . I definitely recommend stage left
Consistent excellent service. I’ve never dined at Stage Left without being greated by one or both of the owners. Food is consistently excellent. Always something new. Excellent wine and drinks. Super attentive wait staff. Emilio was a “standout”! This is a great special occasion or date night spot. Not stuffy, not formal, more of a sophisticated “foodie” spot. Get on their mailing list, there are always special dining events. Try the wagyu beef on a Himalayan salt brick......then thank me later.
This is my fifth time at Stage Left. This time my wife and I brought my parents. What a wonderful meal with great service and ambiance! I recommend Stage Left to anyone who is looking for that special place to go for a special occasion. Ours was a late Christmas present to each other.
Was very disappointed after having had good experiences here years ago. Took 1 hour for meal to arrive. Couldn’t eat dessert bc of time taken to bring out food and with 45 minutes to a show the wait staff gave us a limited options that might be ready in enough time. Gentleman that poured wine wasn’t sure what it was. Wine suggestion not good. Service lacking huge drop off from before. Very quick to run away from you. Food was disappointing especially compared to what we experienced before. Way overpriced overall. Even took long to bring out check. New we were not happy so brought us a free dessert when we already had our coats on. Oh and the icing on the cake is that the meal left me with an upset stomach.
I had not gone to an upscale restaurant before, and it felt great to have water always be filled up, to have excellent food and cheery music playing in the background. The restaurant was a little quirky in its own way, because I expected instrumental rather than older pop music that was playing and there were a lot of cute decorations that I did not expect.
Apps, drinks and entrees were great...
We both got the Wagyu tasting. It was delicious! I just wish I knew exactly what we were eating.
It was a "tasting" so we expected the server to point out the meat and explain like any restaurant would do with any type of "tasting menu". The real disappointment came with dessert. They had a "special" which was apple crumb cake. It tasted stale. I've had better Entenmann's. Because it was considered a "special", I guess I had high expectations. The other dessert we had at the table was not good either. We will be back, we just won't be ordering dessert.
Went to dinner there last night and was totally disappointed with the food. I had a Caesar salad and the lettuce came out with brown spots all over back of the leaves. The dinner bread was hard as a rock. For dinner I had a bone in Filet that had absolutely no taste at all. Even drenched in the garlic butter it was very bland. We also had the salmon dinner which also had no flavor and blah. For the bill being over $250.00, the food was a total disappointment. With this said, if you are looking for a great tasting dinner, I wouldn’t recommend eating here. You would get a better tasting dinner at a Texas Road House or local steak house for a more reasonable price.
I took a friend of mine to dinner at Stage Left before seeing the Nutcracker at the State Theater. What a little gem - good cocktails (the bartender even made her own concoction for a non-alcoholic drink for my friend), great steaks and sides, and terrific service in elegant surroundings.
Besides the comfortable atmosphere and great food, this restaurant is conveniently located next door to the State Theater which makes it perfect for pre-show dinner or post show cocktails. Besides having some of the best steaks, the famous Stage Left Burger is fantastic. Service was friendly and attentive. The owner visited the table twice to check on us. Highly recommended.
The Tomahawk Steak was perhabs the best steak I have had. Excellent. The wine very good, and the Madeira desert wine from 1907 was superb!
A bit noisy, but friendly service, good wine recommendations, very good food. We drove from Princeton to eat there and it was worth it.
Had a great dinner at Stage Left Steak. I was sure going in that I was going to have steak, but they always have good specials, and this was not an exception. I could not say no to seared venison with a really interesting dark beer based sauce. Also had a side dish special of roasted blue potatoes with truffle.
One friend had never had the burger, which everyone should, so he did. The third person liked the brook trout so much the last time that she had to order it again.
We had lots to eat, so we shared one dessert - the ice cream and sorbet sampler. So good ... I can't believe how grape-fruity the grapefruit sorbet is.
There are a few dozen wines by the glass/quartino and an amazing by-the-bottle list.
I have been going to stage left for about 11 years and it has gone under some changes over the last few years. Although I don't believe ownership has changed I do see there are differences. I waited 20 minutes before getting my drink order taken and that's only because one of the owners passed by to check on us . After that it took about 10 minutes for a glass of wine and a beer to be delivered. Mind you it was not very busy in the restaurant. And then it took about 15 more minutes before I could put my food in. That being said, the food was incredible I have always loved stage lefts famous Burger it was cooked to a beautiful medium rare with perfectly melted asiago cheese. My friend had the chicken sandwich which was seasoned to perfection and everything was mouth wateringly good. Now I would also like to be clear that this is the first time I have ever had service this slow here but it is what happened. I do love the staff they are friendly and polite. I just wish there was better timing.
