The food is a bit overpriced. Two crab cakes the size of a small biscuit with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE but micro greens and dill sauce .... $36 !!!! Should at least have had a vegetable. However they were delicious. Probably won’t go back for another 10 years.
Simply superb. The service, food prep, quality, and culture are all top notch. Bartender knew how to make the perfect Sazarac, Caesar salad very fresh (and white anchovies!) and steaks were amazing. Mark and John really know wine and respond well to challenging requests. Don’t miss onion rings or creamed spinach. Pricey, yes, but we all deserve a splurge now and then.
Service and meal are consistently served with correct table etiquette and the meal delicious . I, and guests, receive a warm welcome.

After so many years of world class service and a dining experience that stars don’t do justice, I forget to say thank you and tell them I love them.
1. It’s home... if you’re there once a month or once a year, everyone is treated like a VIP
2. No matter how much I think I’ve memorized the menus they change and I’m torn between too many fantastic choices.
3. I don’t know a Cabernet from a Compari? ... the staff takes the time to make sure I have the perfect cocktail without the “upsell” to make a few extra dollars.
4. When the staff, mangers and owners are still excited and passionate about sharing their hospitality and commitment to excellence every day... I’m as excited to let them.
5. And finally ... Because they care ... about quality, experience, food, service and most of all their guests.
Ok.. I may be a bit too partial.
But I have to tell you a secret. I thought I was special.
I’ve found out that if you’re a 27 year customer or a walk in the door... you’re family.
So hello relative! Welcome... you’ve found a home ... actually two homes.

Thank you, After 28 years here I still love what I do, in large part because of all the wonderful people who have made these restaurants part of their lives and therefore become part of mine.
Ambience was ok. Food was salty and portions were small. Very expensive for what you get!
The staff was unbelievable and on top of everything. The food was amazing as always .
It truly could not have been a nicer experience! If you go make sure you get the burger.
Service was good salad was delicious, but steak was horrible asked for medium it came out burnt and hard line a hockey puck on the outside and raw gooey and red on the insideSent it back they said that’s how their oven cooks to medium? What? Then they brought us a skirt steak because apparently they can’t cook a filet to medium... and brought us a salt slab so we can cook it ourselves the right way I guess?? Condescending manager then came over and pretty much told me that I don’t know anything about steaks and that’s how they’ve been cooking medium for 27 years!!! So we paid and left.. Horrible!! Never again and 65 dollars for a filet and 50 for a strip?? And 14 dollar 6 ounce martinis?? No way!!! Over priced! Now I know why they had so many open reservations on the Saturday Of Valentine’s Day . Go to steak house 85 or Wolfgang’s in Somerville!! They are awesome and actually less expensive!!! It’s a shame I’ve been to stake left many times and Catherine L. Upstairs. Never again!!!!
After comping your first steak and sending you a second (not a skirt) steak, which you also didn't like, I approached your table and your first words to me were, "Apparently, you're not competent enough to cook a steak." Now THAT's condescending and rude. I responded "I'm sorry you don't like our steaks or the way we cook them." I was sincere. I did not say "You don't know anything..." I did say "That's the way we've been doing it for 27 years. I'm sorry you don't like it." It is, and I am.
We started at the beautiful bar and were gently moved to our table, where we enjoyed amazing fois gras, a flat iron steak - aged 45 glorious days - and the best burger I’ve ever eaten. The wine was excellent, the service friendly and attentive - everything about the evening was wonderful!

Although this Restaurant could be a nice place to take your time and dine, we were trying to squeeze in diner between work and a show next door. The staff was great. They made sure to take our order right away and get us to the theatre on time. The food was outstanding!

Very disappointing. For a “steak house”, the filets were grossly undercooked. The grilled asparagus was burnt with the taste of charcoal. The burger was cooked to order, and the lobster tempura was excellent.
The food was excellent , the wine list extensive , the service attentive and the atmosphere clubby

Poor service, drinks not full, 1 piece of bread no butter. Seemed like they were skimping on everything, even the tomahawk steak that was all bone! Very bad experience would not go back!

Have had many dinners with family and friends and recommended to business associates. The experiences have always been extremely awesome with the atmosphere, food and service which is always over the top! Make sure that you also experience the outside dining when available! It will take dining to the next level!
The food and service were excellent. The escargot were scrumptious. Their drinks could have been a little better. Their website states that they are $$$ as far as price is concerned.., We had two drinks .....one salad...... one escargot. (12)..... two steaks.... steak fries..... Tea and black forest cake....... Tax & tips...$225.00... if you aren't $$$$ or $$$$$ (if that even exists)... Then I don't know who is... All in all, a wonderful experience ..
The wait was over 20 min to be after being seated before anyone even approached us .Then 20 min to get a drink. We had reservations . Food was over priced for that it was. Suggest steak85 anyday. I chose this only for the fireworks show foe mew years
The lobster tempura was just breaded deep fried lobster chunks. Not light at all. Both steaks were charred so much they were so black and tasted like charcoal. They did the same thing to the grilled asparagus they charred it as well. The worse creme brûlée I have ever tried. The top was carmelized way too much and the custard was so dry not creamy at all. I didn’t say anything to the waiter because it was New Year’s Eve and I didn’t want to have a problem with anyone We just enjoyed our wine.
The atmosphere, food and service were beyond great.
We had a wonderful dining experience. Matt, our waiter and all the wait staff are knowledgeable and extremely attentive. The butternut squash soup was the best I have ever had. The tomahawk steak and filet with bone were incredible. All of the desserts were melt in your mouth great especially the sticky toffee pudding. It is a beautiful restaurant and we had a truly enjoyable family meal. We will be back!
We have frequented this restaurant many times in the recent past and it was excellent. However, as per a Holiday Post-Broadway Show dinner, we were extremely disappointed. We may try it again in the future, as a response to our complaints were appropriately addressed.
Peter, While I was happy to hear you felt your issue was well-handled, I was saddened to see your review. You are long term patrons and old friends. I know I was in the building and spoke with you while you were here. Please never be trepidatious about asking for me. Very good and attentive service. Food is also good, which is expected for this price point.
Meal and service were exceptional. I always enjoy my meal at Stage Left. Not inexpensive but still a very good value.
Disappointed.... Service was very slow and the owner never stopped by to apologize for being understaffed or that our steaks were not cooked correctly. I will say the Bibb salad was excellent as were the potatoes gratin. Strip steak was good not great. Filet was very good cut and ok on flavor. Have to say with other "steak house choices" not likely to go back.
I really do not like to write negative reviews but I was completely disappointed with my entire experience here. I was taking my 91 year old mother to see a show at the State Theatre and Stage Left is very conveniently located. The tables were too close together and the noise level was too much. Unfortunately we were seated next to someone that complained about everything from her wine being watered down to why were two items served at the same time to her steak is not cooked right. The staff spent so much time falling all over her that we were basically ignored. By the end of our meal they did not even remember to serve me the tea I ordered. I spent my entire time there listening to staff and who I thought was an owner talk (very loudly) with this unhappy patron. I guess they were trying the cheer her up but in the process they lost me as a customer. Not sure what was going on but everything on my plate tasted the same, service and atmosphere was terrible. I will not be returning or recommending
I'm sorry you didn't have a pleasant time with us. The tables are spaced the same as they've been for last 27 years and the noise level varies some. Pre-theater it's certainly not completely quiet. Yes that woman was complaining about everything she could think of (including patently nutty things like her wine being 'watered-down'). Yes we were doing our best to placate her and the owner himself spent a lot of time at that table. I'm sorry our efforts to make her happy made you unhappy?!?!
The food was delicious however the portions were very small! Was seated in a side area with a ton of foot traffic! Overall enjoyed my meal!
Although the food was tasty, we found it overpriced for the location (midtown Manhattan prices in New Brunswick). My wife's steak was undercooked. We mention it to the waiter, but he seemed indifferent to it. We didn't ask to send it back because we were heading to a show, but for the price, we'd expect the steak to come out correctly the first time.
We had a party of 4, my wife and two kids joined me, and we had a fabulous time. Service was attentive, mood and ambiance was lively and classy, seats and lighting very comfortable. Food was amazing, better than our other 1-2 visits over the past year!! Seems like the owners and operators have NOT lost their passion and still enjoy running a top notch restaurant in the heart of NB across from the revived Monument Sq. Great night out and worth every penny.

Excellent service and delicious food. Love the cheese board. The wagyu on the hot salt block was divine. I've been eating at Stage Left since they opened and they just keep getting better! Thank you Mark and Francis!
It was my first time there but based on this visit, I thought the food was just Ok based on what we paid. I I plan on dining here again very soon and afterwards can hopefully provide a more comprehensive review.
We had a great experience here two weeks ago: great food, perfect ambience (lighting, music selection, music level) service and hospitality. This visit the lighting was too high, music selection was really poor and way to loud for the room and some woman was drunk and shreiking in tbe back room and staff made no effort to addresss it. We and other diners were looking at each other thinking “I’ll have what she’s having” a la When Harry Met Sally, but it really was inappropriate for a restaurant like this to allow that behavior. And while we ordered a $75 bottle of wine, apparently that was too inexpensive and the “welcome” feeling disappeared from service. I was embarrassed because I had told our guests how great the place was. Stage Left is very expensive and while the food was excellent both times, at $600 for four people, you’ve got to get it all right: food, ambience, service and hospitality. (And Francis, while I haven’t seen you in probably 20 years, I’m pretty sure you were at the bar while we were there all evening on 11/26/19)
Matt at the bar (and the entire staff) was fantastic - what a great place! Food, ambiance and service were all top notch.
Both our meals were very under-cooked, and no staff checked in with us to rectify the situation. The food is expensive and for that price, I would expect better food and much better service
