St. Paul Grill and Bar Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I enjoyed an early dinner prior to attending the opera. Service was friendly, quick, attentive. Escargot appetizer was very good, French onion soup and spinach salad were excellent. My steak was prepared and seasoned perfectly, my wife had the sea bass special and said it was one of the best fish dinners she has eaten. The Grill is pricey but never disappoints, we will be back.
Our overall experience from our party of 9 was .....outstanding. Lovely, lovely atmosphere. The food was wonderful, seating wonderful. The waitress was quite attentive and polite to everyone at the table. The only mishap would of been when our dessert was served if we would of been asked if we would like coffee served as well. It was a wonderful dining experience and the hotel and decorations are just lovely!! Thank you for making this a special day!
Our server did an outstanding job in relating to my wife's allergies. She repeatedly checked with the kitchen to insure they could prepare her food properly. She was very attentive during the meal insuring our food was prepared to order.
A nice touch was the free desert provided for our anniversary dinner!
My husband and I celebrated his birthday with lunch at the Grill, and we could not have been happier--with the food, the service, the ambience, the history of the hotel. Yes, we'd recommend it to anyone who loves good food, and we can't wait to get back there.
If you are looking for great food, phenomenal atmosphere, romantic setting, beautiful scenery, this is the place to go. Traditional decor but chic in setting and atmosphere. The food was great, staff very attentive to every detail. Just a 5 star on every point. Worth the wait during busy hours. Staff attentive to all details. You just don't see this in other restaurants. Absolutely beautiful on all accounts.
Have been here on two separate occasions and both times the food was impeccable. Steak was done to perfection, fish was done beautifully. There is an impressive wine list and they seem to carry almost any other spirit you can ask for as well. Service was wonderful.
The seating is "cozy" although I never feel crowded. I would recommend requesting a booth or a table by a window if you are going for a more intimate occasion, however.
Prices are steep. For my tax bracket this is a special occasion or business dinner venue. That said, if you have high expectations of food perfection, you shouldn't be disappointed.
I would definitely go back. Our server was top notch and the food and atmosphere was great. If you are new in the area, parking can be a challenge. That was the only thing I did not enjoy was trying to understand my parking options with all the traffic that was on the road.
As many times previously, the St. Paul Grill and bar remains super. Wes, our bartender, kept us engaged and entertained. The halibut and swordfish were perfect. Our water glasses were refilled many times, the silverware replaced as necessary, and the tables de-crumbed after partaking of a delicious bread assortment. Our go-to place in St. Paul!
Love the historical Saint Paul Hotel. The Grille is usually a fabulous spot for lunch or brunch, especially before a show at the Ordway.
We were there on a slow Saturday. Food was ok, not superlative. We tried their Charlies, sandwiches with round potato rolls. The onion soup was good. Valet parking is $13 for 2 hours.
St. Paul Grill is doing themselves a huge disservice by participating in Mpls.St.Paul Restaurant Week. It's clear that this must have been a decision made by some marketer who didn't make sure the staff was aligned. It took us an hour to get served. They had run out of duck and had to "bring some from downstairs" explained the waiter. But, clearly the trout was ready on time because by the time that arrived, with the duck, it was bone dry. They ran out of the top desserts too, so our selection was pie and more pie. Which tasted like they dashed it over from the local Sam's Club.
This is profoundly disappointing because there are so many good restaurants participating in Restaurant Week, and I thought for sure St. Paul Grill would have been one of them. Oh, and the dining area has the ambiance of an upscale cafeteria with the noise and bright lighting.
If you must try the place, I would advise just showing up for an appetizer and a drink in the bar and leave it at that. There are far better restaurants in the Twin Cities.
Dined here for the first time because of Restaurant Week. Food was superb and we'll be back. But it was Friday night and after our main courses were served, it was quite busy and our waiter forgot about us - so we got our desserts to go. Recommend the duck breast and the steak. Best cheese cake I've had in a long time and there are a lot of mediocre ones not worth those extra calories. Nice bread/cracker basket - not all of us are gluten-free. An upscale restaurant should offer up complimentary bread-something to nosh on with wine or a drink.
i have been to the st paul grille before and enjoyed the food very much this time it was restaurant week and we ordered off that menu, ordering the top sirloin. both of our sirloins were tough and chewy - the mashed potatoes were to die for, the Caesar salads were great and the molton cake should have a warning label on it as it was sinfully good. Alas we should have had the chicken.......
Started in the Bar where Wes, (bartender) made two drinks from his own menu for the ladies. One of them hated gin, the martini Wes made....she ordered two. The other could decide on a drink as the menu had so many great choices. Wes, asked do you trust me? Wes mad a fantastic flaming martini. The Bar was captivated. The Meal during Minneapolis Restaurant week was the best I have had in the past 7 years while attending the area's restaurant week. They didn't skimp on quality or portion sizing. The offerings please every pallet. Well done The Saint Paul Grill!
Food was good, but...for the price, there are far better values for dining nearby. I know people don’t go to the STP Grill for low-prices, but $36 for a small filet mignon with zero sides is not a great deal. The cauliflower and spinach sides were good, but at $14 each? Not worth quite that price. Additionally, we had $100 is gift cards that were a gift - beware, they only accept $20 gift cards per check, and booze purchases cannot be used with the gift cards. In addition, they have expiration dates - NOT customer friendly, so skip giving/avoid getting gift cards for this place. All of that said, service was great - able to sample wines before deciding which one and cocktails were well-poured. It’s too bad on the costs and GC issues, but will make it extremely hard to continue recommending the STP Grill
