We had wonderfully prepared food at the St Paul Grill. The 10 oz sirloin was thick, tender and prepared perfectly. The trout was flavorful. It has a great atmosphere and the staff was very attentive, but did not rush us. I appreciate the parking validation for a nearby ramp. It was a very lovely evening.
A Twin Cities classic with always outstanding food, service and ambience.
My dinner of steak and mashed potatoes was cold. My sons pork chop was under cooked.
Restaurant Week. Amazing food and stellar service
We were early for our 8pm reservation so we took a seat at the bar and were told the hostess would come find us when our table was ready. Some time after 8pm no one had come to find us so I went to the hostess stand to check status and it seemed they were just getting ready to come find us. This was the first evening of restaurant week and it seemed they were a bit ill prepared as they had run out of two of the three RW dessert options but offered any of their regular menu desserts as substitutions. As for the meal I thought it was just okay. The wild rice soup left much to be desired. I feel that even the Timber Lodge does a better wild rice soup. I had the trout entree with asparagus. It seemed like it had been sitting in the window awaiting my fiancées well done steak to finish cooking. The asparagus were skinny and limp and luke warm like the trout. My fiancée enjoyed his top sirloin though and it was cooked properly. Service at our table was fine. I felt the timing of the entire meal was appropriate. I just expected more overall from this high regarded restaurant. I feel that my dollars would’ve been better spent elsewhere...
My friends and I went out for Restaurant Week Dinner. The appetizers and the entrees were all very tasty. Unfortunately, we were then told that the desserts we wanted from the restaurant week menu were all sold out (burnt crème and Molten Lava Cake). The server was nice to offer us the desserts from the regular menu but it was still a little disappointing. Overall, It was a great deal!
We made our dinner reservation at St. Paul Grill and Bar as part of Restaurant Week 2018. We were excited to eat there because of the great things we had heard about the food. However, we were quite disappointed. The table location and ambiance were great and we appreciated the quiet atmosphere because we enjoy talking on our dates. Our waitress shared the Restaurant Week menu with us but gave us few insights or suggestions - even though we specifically asked for some advice on the options. The wild rice soup as an appetizer was fabulous and we found a couple of nice selections in the bread basket. My wife ordered the bourbon glazed pork chop and I ordered the duck breast for our entrees. Both were underwhelming. The pork chop was a bit dry and the glaze was undetectable. While I liked the hoisin sauce on the duck breast and accompanying vegetables, it was the only flavor on the plate. Our waitress failed to check on us when we finished the glass of wine and beer that we ordered. We both love creme brûlée and it was a wonderful desert selection. But we were left with the feeling that we would be unlikely to return - which we believe is a purpose of having Restaurant Week - because our above average appetizers and deserts were not enough to make up for the nondescript entrees.
The St Paul Grill is THE restaurant to go to in the St Paul area. Traditional, elegant, great food, great service, great location. You feel special dining here different than saying you went to anywhere else.
I highly recommend this restaurant. It delivered on all levels. Great food, service, & ambiance!
Had a wonderful brunch for my daughter's birthday. Good and drinks were delicious! Our waitress was the best!!!
Wonderful Sunday Brunch with family!!
54.00 for two dry, overcooked, very small lobster tails...they said this was a special..I think not!
Too cold by the windows.
To say nothing of the fiasco of parking OMG
The atmosphere is lovely, and the food is wonderful. A very nice, varied menu with lots of options. I would like to see more organic choices. A bit expensive for dinner, but a good value for a special occasion lunch.
We continue to return for special occasions or before theater events. The entrees never disappoint but the best things we never miss are the bacon appetizer and hashbrowns.
Saint Paul Grill is one my favorite places especially combined with a show at the Ordway. Deliciously tasty, fresh and served with flair.
Another flawless experience. Everyone was so nice to me. Some of my favorite employees stopped by to chat since I hadn't been there in a while. Ate entirely too much. Handsome date, excellent food, excellent service. I'd say it was a win.
This was our Valentine's night out for my wife and I before a Wild Hockey game. Food, beverage, and service all exceeded expectations. We don't come here often due to $$. It was a special occasion and well worth it. We got a gift card bargain before Xmas, so the expense was limited. We still have a few gift cards to St.Paul Hotel associated restaurants which we'll use as the year goes on. Great service is hard to find today. They have that mastered, along with superb quality and a historic atmosphere.
Service very slow, 2 ribeyes were under cooked and not as flavorable as a Morton’s or Ruth’s
It was a little noisier than I expected, but the staff was spot on, the food was delicious, and overall, there was a “fancy” feel to lunch.
Favorite restaurant in the twin cities. I have been there for several dates with my significant other and it never disappoints.
Our Valentine’s dinner began with a very refreshing pear cocktail. I followed it with a beet salad which I could have eaten another plateful! I had the scallops over risotto which were a little too gritty, but meaty and impressively seared. The risotto was unimpressive. My husband ordered the chicken pot pie which he found to be as tasty as the Lexington’s and Hy-Vee’s. Overall, a wonderful night with our delightful and obviously experienced waitress.
Excellent food and prices, as always! The food choices are great, and all are very tasty. The bar drinks are great also.
It was SO LOUD. We were literally yelling at each other across the table. The negative experience of the noise over-rides the great service and delicious food. I will think twice about returning.
The food was excellent! For my personal opinion it was too packed an loud, but if course it's good for business. Our waitress seemed good at first, but for the end portion of our meal, she ignored us. We were done with our food and drinks, and we had to have waited 15 -20 mins until she even came over. She had other tables, but from what my partner and I could see it wasn't an overwhelming amount. She was busy clearing plates when I'd like to point out there is a bus boy who was already doing that. The service wasn't horrible, but for the price of food we were paying, it was crappy service. We won't be going back.
Everything was very good but the two stars on the food is based on the walleye fillet that was full of small bones. I was very surprised. My wife’s steak was excellent.
Always a pleasant experience for lunch. Service is friendly and fast while food is flavorful and big portions.
One of my favorite restaurants. Food and service are always superb. Signature Manhattan and the hash browns are a must with whatever the choice of meal.
Great food and staff all around. The crab cake is amazing and the steak was top notch. It’s just slightly too expensive to make a great value statement, even considering the exceptional quality.
Amazing food . And great staff. Haven't had this much fun with my wife in a long time. Perfect for any ocassion.
We visited for an early Valentines Dinner. Our food was exceptional and the service impeccable. I had suggested a local pizza restaurant and I'm so glad my Valentine suggested the St. Paul Grill instead. Top notch. I had forgotten what a treasure this place is!
