St. Paul Grill and Bar
Always a favorite! Perfect Birthday dinner!
Overall it was a good night out. Was disappointed I out if our means but they took care of us.
We had a terrific time! dinner was excellent and we loved our waiter. He made the evening even more fun.
We didn't love our server, but the food and atmosphere was good.
Excellent quality meals. Generous portions.
Great bar, wine selections. Pricey $$. Staff is fabulous.
We had a wonderful waitress ho really helped us have a great time. I don’t remember her name but she was an older woman, working the Sunday Brunch 11/14 and was so helpful as our party was late on ordering brunch and she didn’t make us feel rushed or u comfortable. We all loved her.
Everyone knows St. Paul Grill is the best. We tried brunch on Sunday and it was wonderful. The brunch prices are extremely reasonable for the high quality. The tenderloin benedict was best I've had, and brunch comes with fruit or tasty caramel rolls. Service was just a little off which is unusual for them but maybe just ended a rush? Still, it was a wonderful morning and we love the grill - will certainly return for brunch (and dinner).
We used to frequent the restaurant when we lived closer but now that we are closer to Minneapolis not much. We arrived about 15 minutes before reservation still had to wait about 25 minutes before we were seated. Then we were sat in a cold spot in the back corner next to where the wait staff comes out. We were with our young adult children who thought we were seated there on purpose since we passed several empty booths on the way. Then our waitress comes to our table and tells us she's to busy so while she knows were there she tells us it's going to be awhile...really? Finally a nice male server came and took our drink orders. Steaks were under cooked and service was poor. Not worth the money spent and the younger generation at the table said, waste of money.
We had an outstanding meal. Service, quality of food was excellent. Can’t wait to return.
Absolutely fabulous! For our anniversary we went for dinner and stayed at the hotel, things could not have been any better! The staff is incredible!! Our waiter was personable, fun all around outstanding!
Most amazing steaks in Twin Cities!
And my fave-rainbow trout-is perfectly cooked to luscious flaky perfection. Also the hash browns, calimari, wedge salad, really everything!
Restaurant seemed loud - louder than expected. Ordered a martini and asked if they had any "interesting gin." Server replied "Bombay Sapphire?" Not interesting. Got a Plymouth Martini that was huge, but a little watery and not cold enough. Wine list seemed OK. The trout was very good. The Walleye was not. It was mushy and tasteless, except for the cloyingly sweet sauce. Served with big, watery slices of summer squash and zucchini. To their credit, when the waiter asked how things were and I said the trout was far better than the walleye he offered to bring a complementary trout to replace the walleye. That saved the evening. The pork chop was fine, though sweet. The "pumpkin bisque" seemed to be pumpkin pie that had been put in a blender, whipped cream and all. This is a middle of the road restaurant pretending to be fancy. There must be better options.
I seem to keep coming back. I try to venture to new places and sometimes do, however I always come back to "the grill". We were there recently twice to celebrate my birthday. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Our wait staff was awesome both times. Our waiter on Friday night, Ryan, was unbelievable. He knew how to read his audience and we had such a blast. Truly an unforgettable night. THANK YOU! Thank you for great food, amazing service and providing such awesome place to make memories.
My Rotisserie chicken was Luke warm at best. Disappointing with all things considered...
We entertained friends from Chicago and they compared it to their best dining experience there. The service from sandra was exceptional and our party was made welcome from the moment we opened the door. My wife said her steak was the best she's had. Wine list was well balanced and inclusive.
Great evening. A little trouble with flat tonic water for my cocktail, but fixed immediately by closest staff member. Great service.
The food and service were very good. Friendly, helpful staff. Almost everything was overpriced and the ambiance was fair at best for a romantic date. Hats off to the chef and wait staff, but this place is best suited (both price-wise and ambiance-wise) for business meals and business folks with expense accounts.
We had a wonderful dinner at St Paul Grill after a 4pm Sunday Concert at the Ordway! Always a special treat, this time we were celebrating our oldest daughter & her husband's 2nd Anniversary and our middle daughter's first concert as a member of VocalEssence.
Steaks and seafood choices are excellent. Hashbrowns are an exceptional side. Deserts are fantastic. Old school charm, in an old school hotel with phenom location in St. Paul.
Overall, we really enjoyed the brunch here. Food was very good! The service was attentive, although we had the feeling we were being rushed a bit. We have been to the SPG many times and will certainly go back.
This was our first visit to St. Paul Grill and Bar. The bar area was packed and rather loud...but when we were seated in the restaurant it was quiet and had a wonderful atmosphere. Our server was excellent, friendly, and on the spot when requests were made. The food was terrific...the warm cheese platter was excellent. Our entrees were delicious as well. We will be back!
I expected more for some reason. Better quality food maybe. Service was ok slow getting our bill. It was quite busy with the hockey game and opera in town. I think I expected an eligent restaurant for the price and we were seated really close to others. No privacy.
Great food and service! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner before the Wild home opener.
We were disappointed with our meal and experience. The food was very plain and overpriced for what we received. It was very loud. Our waitress was very busy and we had to really flag her down to get her attention. We had high expectations based on the fact it is a classic St. Paul establishment but will likely not return.
As always, the food and service were exceptional. We were celebrating an anniversary and were well cared for. The cocktails were delicious, the wine selection broad, and the food plentiful and well prepared. Best hashbrowns! And the bacon...perfection. The only drawback was a very high noise level. We spent most of the meal leaning in and speaking up simply to have a conversation. It was even hard to talk with the server due to the high volume in the restaurant.
A great experience as usual. This is always my go to place. Nothing else in the twin cities can compare
The food was delicious and would have been better if it came to us hot, or even medium hot. Our food arrived slightly warm and it seemed to take awhile before we got it. I assumed it sat plated for quite a few minutes it order for it to cool down as much as it did.
For whatever reason our server was slow which again probably contributed to the temperature of our food. Our server was nice.
Always a go to special occasion restaurant. I love the bar and the scotch selection is the best in the Twin Cities. The service is always outstanding, and the food is consistent and fresh. It is pretty spendy, but if you need to impress a date or take someone out for a special occasion, you won’t find a better place in the Twin Cities
Great dinner and service!
Elegant service in old St. Paul. Loud bar scene, but it is the sound of many people talking and catching up, rather than from annoying music or the ubiquitous television. Good food, good drinks, valet parking, and attentive service - all near entertainment and beautiful Rice Park. Well worth it.
As always, just a wonderful time at the St. Paul Grill. Love the ambiance, the service and the food. Will return again.
A sisters get-together before seeing a play at Park Square Theatre. Attentive staff, no rush to get us out. The brunch champagne at $3 was a nice surprise!
Sunday brunch. Waited awhile to order food but once ordered it came quick. We ate quick and We paid soon after after food but a member of our party wanted another refill on his cup of coffee but waitress NEVER came back. We had to ask another server to get a refill for a member of our party. I suggest you have someone come around whether it’s the hostess or bus person to fill coffee cups for customers especially if server is busy. Disappointed in service.
The Saint Paul Grill is our favorite restaurant in Saint Paul. The food is unfailingly excellent, as is the service. Our personal favorite is the walleye, with a mild pecan sauce, a local delicacy. The table is always ready at the reserved time and we are never hurried along. The restaurant, part of the Saint Paul Hotel, has valet parking, which is useful in this part of town.
We had 1 waitress for our table of 12 plus she had more tables.
drinks and food:apps/salads all came out at diff times and 2 steaks were switch (temp wise) and we fixed between themselves and 2 were not done correctly to raw.. and because we didn't see our waitress that often it was hard to let her know (wasn't her fault, she just had to many table at the same time.)
I wouldn't recommend a large group unless u are going to have more that 1 server
Our group said it was our worst dinner trip together.. Food and service not good
2 things they loved was the POT PIE & Crab cakes
The St. Paul Grill is in the historic St. Paul hotel. It is truly amazing. We had a guest that needed a gluten free menu and it was fantastic. We had a great server that was attentive to our every need. I highly recommend the warm cheese starter. I tried the seafood stew for the first time and loved it.
Always eat here when we come home to St.Paul. Three of us ordered the halibut, as listed on the specials that night. After we'd opened the wine and chosen salads and sides, told no halibut available. All three of us then ordered medium rare petite filets-arrived bloody, barely having a slight sear. We all sent them back-they came back appropriately done, warm, but with our potatoes removed from the plate. We were offered mashed, which none of us care for....our waitress was trying to be helpful but was clearly flustered. We drank the wine-not what I would've chosen knowing I was going to have red meat.We were offered no compensation . Lastly, the decaf coffee is not fit for human consumption.Sadly, after many years we do not plan to return.
Always enjoy spending our anniversary at St Paul Grill. It has become a tradition over the years. This year we were treated with a complimentary dessert. Great meal and wine!
There is no better place in St. Paul for a business lunch. Great location, great food, outstanding service.
Excellent food and service! Our only concern was the table for 4 we were seated at was rather small/tight.
