St. Paul Grill and Bar
Weeknight and Wild Hockey crowd was there early, which made for a lively buzz. Excellent specials, Oysters were very good. Seafood special was outstanding. Our server was timely and attentive. The Birthday treat was very good. Overall an Outstanding night. Highly recommend
From the moment we walked through the door we were treated like royalty! Our server Mary never missed an opportunity to create a relaxed and top notch experience. Every one of our meals including appetizers and desserts were outstanding. The manager Steve stopped by our table and his hospitality was the icing on the cake! Seating by the window was a bit drafty but tolerable.
We come back every year for our anniversary, always wonderful!
We were attending a late evening wedding at the Landmark Center across the street. We picked the St Paul grill for location and I read the reviews which were very good. The food was excellent and the service was on point. I would definitely return for dinner but would plan a evening when there isn’t a Wild game. It took away from the ambience of a nice dinner feel.
Took a friend and my daughter to lunch this visit, and it was my friend's birthday. She was greeted and treated very well. She ordered one of the daily specials and was very happy with her selection. My daughter and I ordered the mini chicken pot pie w/salad this visit. We were both disappointed w/pot pie as there was little content to it. I was thankful my friend has not opted for the mini pot pie. I had the regular size last month and was extremely pleased with it. My friend was served a birthday dessert and that was outstanding, as well as us ordering a second dessert to share that was also very good. Wine list very good as well as cocktail selections.
Food and service are always outstanding. Everyone there is a pro. Will keep coming back because we know what to expect and they never let us down.
We had a wonderful dining experience at the St. Paul Grill. John, our server, made my birthday celebration very special. We started with spicy shrimp and escargot wontons. We shared the chicken pot pie. It was light enough that we could have eaten two! I highly recommend visiting for any occasion.
The most negative aspect of dining at the St. Paul Grill is the high level of noise which takes away from the personal/intimate experience. The excellent food comes at a price.
I went for a post-holiday lunch. The caramelized onions on my daily special omelette were excellent. The room was quiet enough that we could talk but not so quiet as to feel dead. I would come back here for another special occasion lunch.
Wonderful atmosphere, fantastic service and excellent food. Everyone was on the ball!
Always a consistent, excellent experience to dine here. Thank you!
Was one of my perineal favorites....my last words visits....the lamb chops were raw an poor cuts and the roasted tenderloin, while a great piece of beef had a cream sauce that would only be appropriate on pasta.
What has happened???
We like this spot and have gone here for different celebrations with family or dates. The food and service is always consistent and tasty.
Our expectations were fairly high as we’ve eaten here before, but the service was ok and the food was ok to good, but nothing was outstanding.
Great food. A little spendy, but you get what you pay for. Superb waitstaff! Great recommendations, fast and friendly. I look forward to going back again.
Amazing food and service, very clean. Beautiful bathroom. Large sides, lots of options.
Great service and the food was perfect!!!
Best restaurant in the twin cities in my opinion. I had the Walleye. It had a delicious pecan sauce. with baked mixed veggies. Service is great.
Love the atmosphere and my turkey melt for Saturday lunch was delicious. I thought we were getting brunch, but it is only on Sundays. Lunch menu was still delicious. They make their own peppered vodka for bloody mary's, but it's a little too pepper-y for me. Love this place though, it's been great every time.
The pot pie was great, and so was our server. However, the special dessert of the day, a German Chocolate Cake, was hardly edible. Sorry, it just did not work. I like Kirsch, (I think that was used in the cake) but too much of a good thing. The other flavors were cancelled. The other food was okay, but I expected more for the cost. We requested a quiet booth or table with a view. Although we got the view, we were seated next to the serving station where servers slammed plates and flatware on the table. The restaurant was empty when we were seated.
Thank you, and good luck in a very difficult industry.
Excellent food, service and presentation. Enjoyed celebrating my wife’s birthday.
The filet was cooked perfectly. I also had the scallops. They had to much pepper for me (the risotto too) but it was still very good. The crab cake was fabulous!!! The escargot was different being in a wonton style but very good.
It was a great place for my husband and me to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary! Close to home, excellent food, and attentive service. The setting is elegant, but comfortable.
Amazing service, as always! A wonderful spot for our Christmas dinner tradition.
The St Paul Grill is a "go to" special destination for us. We meet friends from WI there periodically for dinner and we go every New Year's Day for brunch in the dining room. We love the openness that the spacious windows provide looking out over the park. We love the brunch menu and mid-day prices are very do-able. The carmel rolls are scrumptious :) Perhaps most importantly, we have consistently had friendly, attentive waitpersons. The historic hotel lobby is warm and gracious and takes us back in time.
We enjoyed brunch on New Years Day. The cocktails and meals were tasty and the service efficient but relaxed. We'll be back. Thank you.
The food is always amazing and the service is solid. Just the right balance between being fancy but not over pretentious.
St. Paul grill is terrific for Christmas ambience as always. Food was excellent. This time we had a terrible waiter. The prime complaint was that he treated my wife and her friend in a belittling manner. I was in conversation with my friend so My wife ordered the wine. The waiter suggested a certain red in the $400 range....amusing as he isn’t a sommelier who would have asked the customer preferences and tastes first. He just voiced his personal liking for a certain red. Who cares what the waiter likes???? No one!!!! It’s about the customers taste. When my wife expressed she didn’t want to spend that much and decided on a $125 bottle the waiter commented that was a value choice? WTF? Have been going to St. Paul grill for 25 years. I summoned the waiter over and instructed him that I will order for my wife and that he was not to talk to her anymore. And BTW I’m not going to have him talking to my guests that way.
Didn’t make a scene as I would have if just my wife and I. But I regret now not calling over the manager to be given a different waiter.
Lesson reminder, say your peace when spending $700 on dinner and address the situation immediately.
A group of 8 of us dined in at St. Paul Grille on NY Eve. Despite one of the busiest days of the year to to book a reservation, the ambiance and service was absolutely phenomenal.
New Year’s Eve. Everything was terrific. Food quality is consistently high here.
St. Paul Hotel is the best hotel in the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, and its namesake restaurant St. Paul Grill is the best overall restaurant in the cities. Don't take me wrong this is not the place to go to have an elegant innovative 12 course tasting dinner in the tradition of Per Se in NY or the French Laundry in Napa. After all it is a hotel restaurant and by necessity it has to have something for every one. And that is what the grill excels at. They have a great bone in tender steak, wonderful seafoods, (I like the salmon), a variety of well prepared traditional appetizers, (crab cake is a standout), executional salads, very good side dishes, (hash brown and the baked potatoes are musts), and a wine list which is well selected.
But above all it is the best managed restaurant around. Service shines and the maitre d is exceptional. She knows the key customers' seating preferences and makes sure that all diners are served as though they are the most important.
The St. Paul Grill is a place know. For good food, service and ambiance . I have been there several times and had a good experience. On December 30th my family went to the restaurant to celebrate birthday’s. The reservation was made well in advance. We were seated at a table in a area of foot traffic. Two tables were pushed together to seat our party of 7. On one side of our table was a booth, on the other a waiter work area. Thus, lots of foot traffic. I did not notice after being seated that the tables were uneven with one table being taller than the other. My place setting was placed right on the uneven joint tables. We ordered drinks and I placed my drink down onto the uneven spot. We informed our waitress who tried her best to fix the table, but it was a lost cause.
We felt a place of this level of dining should never have seated a party at that table. Someone dropped the ball. Not sure we will return.
We had a lovely brunch before attending the Ordway. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance.
Good food and exceptional ambiance. We were at Sunday brunch before a 1:00 show at Orpheum. All was well until we had to wait forever for the bill and then 25 minutes for our car at valet. We were late for our play. 😢
Wonderful venue for our Holiday office party. Great food and great gluten free options.
We had a wonderful lunch and our server Robert took care of our every need. What a wonderful memory!
We were seated 25 minutes late, reason given was they were behind on clearing tables yet we observed servers standing around not assisting with the excess of dirty tables. We were attending an event at the Excel Energy Center so we altered our meal plans and only ordered quick menu items to ensure we made our event on time. The French Fries came out so salty neither of us could eat them and the apple pie was underwhelming. We had intended on ordering more substantial menu items so going to a 4 1/2 star restaurant to get burger and fries was disappointing. Will give kudos to our server who recognized the issue and ensured our order came out quickly so we could make our event on time. With over 4000 ratings above 5 stars we really expected more so I guess my final comment would be that they were not on their "A" game this day.
Server was not very friendly or accommodating. I was quite put off by her impatience.
Service was a bit slow, but they were very busy. Food was excellent.
