Wonderful food!!! There wait staff were quick to explain the menu, fill our glasses and make sure we were out on time for symphony. The cod was filling and flavorful. My dining mates had the mussels and they were quite satisfied. The Lyonnaise salad was very good. We shared the cheese plate with a selection created by our waiter that was equally delicious: honey, apple and apricot were a great companion to the cheese. Putting the restaurant in my rotation of favorites. Well done!
Amazing food and quaint dishes and salt on the butter with sturdy baguette- yum!
Underwhelmed for our date night, but kate was awesome and kind and inviting.
We each ordered wagyu filets. The meat quality and texture was not even close to costco choice let alone wagyu. Not sure what cut we were served. That being said, it was executed perfect( whatever cut it was).
We sat at the counter and wAtched the show. Amazing. Perfect service. Delicious seasonal dishes perfectly mastered. Loved the black cod dish. The chocolate truffle with pistachio butter was divine. And not to sweet.
They pulled it off perfectly without a flaw. Always a pleasure.
Second time in 3 years that my wife and I have made reservations at St. Jack for our anniversary. Had a wonderful evening last time, which the first time we'd eaten at their NW 23rd location. No hesitation going back this year.
I let St. Jack know that it was our anniversary and requested a quieter table a bit separated from the crowd. We were seated at a nice two-topper in the corner near the front window that fit the bill perfectly.
Our waiter, Tyson, welcomed us and brought two glasses of Champagne Tassin Brut NV on the house. We wanted a Rose Champagne with dinner. Tyson suggested the Champagne Chartogne-Taillet, Brut Rose, NV and it was delicious. We started with oysters, then their Butter Lettuce salad (a meal in itself, and a fine one at that). My wife had the Cod and I had the their untraditional Gnocchi. Both were well prepared and delightful.
Tyson took good care of us all evening. Terrific job.
Want to thank St. Jack for another wonderful anniversary dinner.
We have always loved St. Jack. We have come for birthday's for years. The food is very good, our waitperson was excellent and the drinks also wonderful. The cod dish was disappointing in both portion and taste and price. The tables are very close and it was very loud.
Too loud. Would not recommend if you want to have a conversation.
Great place to celebrate a birthday
3rd time I went to this restaurant.
1st it was all good, my fav in PDX.
2nd time was a vey expensive valentines menu. Not worthy and the main course was too small.
3rd time our stake frites (3 of them) were over cooked outside and super raw inside.
Anyways, nice one but hard to love it after that.
If you appreciate french food then this is your spot.
Wonderful. Loved the duck and foie gras!
Perfection! Perfection! Perfection!
The four of us enjoyed our meal at St Jack's last Saturday evening. The gals both had the Lyonnaise tart and the guys had the clams and pork belly. Doesn't sound like a good combination but their bowls were not only empty but wiped clean with the last of the bread. Our waiter was friendly and attentive but not in our face. Very pleasant two hours and, like in France, felt no pressure to vacate the table
Some of our courses were outstanding (lamb, tomato soup, butter lettuce salad), while others were a mixed bag (my cod was perfectly cooked with a wonderful crisp skin, but the accompanying potatoes were underdone, almost crunchy), and our appetizer (barnacles— a special) was a flop, with about half being extremely sandy. My daughter had the duck, and loved it, but the portion of duck was really very small (like four bites) for the price. We will give it another try, as the service was excellent and the highs of the meal were very very good.
Wonderful French cuisine. The food is delicious and the presentation superb. Great and attentive service.
Our waiter was great. He had great ideas of wines choices and knew the specials well. The food was great. We will be back again.
I am so glad for the 3 coarse for $33 in Portland to give me the opportunity to try this and many other amazing restaurants. Since our night there I have been raving about St. Jack. The cuisine was incredible, even the salad we started with. I will definitely be returning soon! St. Jack is perfect for date night, dinner with grandparents, drinks with friends and surely lots of fun. I enjoyed the warm and lively atmosphere, and hope others will also by visiting St. Jack soon!
We've eaten at this restaurant a few times and have enjoyed every meal. I had the cod casserole this time and it was outstanding -- moist and with perfect flavor from the wild mushroom broth. The service is excellent, too. The waiters are knowledgeable and the service is paced just right.
The dining room was stupidly noisy with diners shouting at one another to be heard across their table. Fortunately, the maitresse'd noticed that we had requested a quiet table on our reservation in hopes of being able to engage in conversation and moved us to the bar area, where we were served with the dining menu.
Our seafood dishes were very fishy. We ordered a bavette steak which arrived cool. Very expensive meal.
Amazing experience, wonderful food with very developed flavors, layer upon layer. Wine pairings were spot on. Service was welcoming, attentive, professional.
Delicious and differerent food
Came for Portland Dining Month. Food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The server was knowledgeable, and the staff was attentive without hovering. It is a little expensive, but I found it worthwhile for the quality of the experience.
Wonderful dinner with friends. Food was fantastic! Clams in tomato broth with pork belly was super delicious!
We love St Jack. Bartender is the best ! Food is the best. And we always have a great time.
Even though the food at St. Jack's is really delicious and expertly prepared, the service is so unacceptable and neglectful that I would never go back.
St Jack provides a consistently delicious and enjoyable evening out, whether you are there for happy hour, dinner, or after-theater drinks. We went for Portland Dining Month but ended up ordering off the regular menu. Great cocktails. Great wines by the glass. Great salads. Great entrées. Service is friendly and helpful and the aroma as you enter the restaurant is amazing.
Visited for Portland dining month, French cuisine was superb. Specials were seasonal and highlighted region. Bread was delicious. Service expectable exceptional even in busy environment. Tables were close to each other than preferred, but nothing that ruined the evening.
My husband and I both enjoyed our Portland Dining Month three course meals. Combine delicious food with excellent service and warm welcoming atmosphere for total satisfaction.
We went for our anniversary dinner. Food was out of this world, service was great, but decor and noise were on par with a coffee shop. Way too noisy for romance.
Group of 10 in middle of restaurant ruined the ambiance. Nice quiet dinner wasn't possible.
We were given a gift certificate from a couple that stayed in our apartment on N.W. Lovejoy Street. The gave us a $100.00 gift. We used it up for dinner and, Karon's favorite house martini? Karon said it was the BEST she ever had.
Mahalo for a great dining experience
Food was rich and delicious, exactly what I would expect from a French restaurant. The noise level was too high to enjoy our date, sadly we could barely hear each other. The service was attentive and very pleasant.
As always, excellent food and service! Very French and constantly changing menu!
Our server was really bad from when we arrived to getting the bill. It was unfortunate as the restaurant was touted to be very very good and our experience was not. Food was average at best. My lamb shank was dry and over cooked as well was the beef dish my coworker ordered.
I love St. Jack. They have such a great focus on the food and drink without being pretentious. We have taken our kids there for dinner and the kitchen was amazingly accommodating, even though we didn't ask for it. They made my son a kid's size burger rather than pushing the full burger on him. Thank you so much! BTW: They make the best Steak Frites in town. Your winning order is the Poached Prawns, Butter Lettuce Salad, Steak Frites, and fresh-made Madeleines...you can thank me later!
We had a great experience from the moment before we even entered the front door. We were late for our reservation bc the babysitters car broke down and when I called the restaurant to let them know was told “relax, no hurry, your table will be waiting.” So nice! All of the staff we encountered were friendly and warm and the food was delicious! We would definitely go back again.
Everyone loved their food. Sauces and broths were fabulous. My Lyonnaise salad was too vinegary for my taste, but its ingredients were perfect and delicious. Duck a l'orange, mussels, crab gratin... very French. Very good.
I wish there was a way to give half stars but there is not so rating largely errs to higher score with exception of service; this is a solid 5 star rating. If bonus points could be given I would do so. We had a patient, very knowleagble wait person who was able to dial in our palates with a few questions and gave solid recommendations. Portions are generous at this restaurant. The cuisine is good but not outstanding in my opinion. It is possible to elevate basic faire to exceptional level but not in this dining experience. Things were not in balance and one element always stood out. If there was a sweet component to a dish it overpowered the flavor, if smoke was a component this was the driving flavor in everything. Palate fatigue ensues. It’s a pleasant place but loud for intimate conversation. I enjoyed the discovery but don’t need to revisit.
