Amazing experience, wonderful food with very developed flavors, layer upon layer. Wine pairings were spot on. Service was welcoming, attentive, professional.
Delicious and differerent food
Came for Portland Dining Month. Food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The server was knowledgeable, and the staff was attentive without hovering. It is a little expensive, but I found it worthwhile for the quality of the experience.
Wonderful dinner with friends. Food was fantastic! Clams in tomato broth with pork belly was super delicious!
We love St Jack. Bartender is the best ! Food is the best. And we always have a great time.
Even though the food at St. Jack's is really delicious and expertly prepared, the service is so unacceptable and neglectful that I would never go back.
St Jack provides a consistently delicious and enjoyable evening out, whether you are there for happy hour, dinner, or after-theater drinks. We went for Portland Dining Month but ended up ordering off the regular menu. Great cocktails. Great wines by the glass. Great salads. Great entrées. Service is friendly and helpful and the aroma as you enter the restaurant is amazing.
Visited for Portland dining month, French cuisine was superb. Specials were seasonal and highlighted region. Bread was delicious. Service expectable exceptional even in busy environment. Tables were close to each other than preferred, but nothing that ruined the evening.
My husband and I both enjoyed our Portland Dining Month three course meals. Combine delicious food with excellent service and warm welcoming atmosphere for total satisfaction.
We went for our anniversary dinner. Food was out of this world, service was great, but decor and noise were on par with a coffee shop. Way too noisy for romance.
Group of 10 in middle of restaurant ruined the ambiance. Nice quiet dinner wasn't possible.
We were given a gift certificate from a couple that stayed in our apartment on N.W. Lovejoy Street. The gave us a $100.00 gift. We used it up for dinner and, Karon's favorite house martini? Karon said it was the BEST she ever had.
Mahalo for a great dining experience
Food was rich and delicious, exactly what I would expect from a French restaurant. The noise level was too high to enjoy our date, sadly we could barely hear each other. The service was attentive and very pleasant.
As always, excellent food and service! Very French and constantly changing menu!
Our server was really bad from when we arrived to getting the bill. It was unfortunate as the restaurant was touted to be very very good and our experience was not. Food was average at best. My lamb shank was dry and over cooked as well was the beef dish my coworker ordered.
We had a great experience from the moment before we even entered the front door. We were late for our reservation bc the babysitters car broke down and when I called the restaurant to let them know was told “relax, no hurry, your table will be waiting.” So nice! All of the staff we encountered were friendly and warm and the food was delicious! We would definitely go back again.
Everyone loved their food. Sauces and broths were fabulous. My Lyonnaise salad was too vinegary for my taste, but its ingredients were perfect and delicious. Duck a l'orange, mussels, crab gratin... very French. Very good.
I wish there was a way to give half stars but there is not so rating largely errs to higher score with exception of service; this is a solid 5 star rating. If bonus points could be given I would do so. We had a patient, very knowleagble wait person who was able to dial in our palates with a few questions and gave solid recommendations. Portions are generous at this restaurant. The cuisine is good but not outstanding in my opinion. It is possible to elevate basic faire to exceptional level but not in this dining experience. Things were not in balance and one element always stood out. If there was a sweet component to a dish it overpowered the flavor, if smoke was a component this was the driving flavor in everything. Palate fatigue ensues. It’s a pleasant place but loud for intimate conversation. I enjoyed the discovery but don’t need to revisit.
We went there for Valentine's day dinner and had a great time! The food was very good and I was surprised by how good their cocktails were as well. Highly recommended!
We celebrated Valentine’s Day and the experiences was very good overall, good drinks, good food and romantic ambience.
My wife and I had an amazing meal and great cocktails! The staff was very attentive. The only problem is that we wish we could afford to eat here every weekend but then it wouldn't be as specially maybe.. great job!
It continues to be a dining gem. SE Pdx misses them. It made for a lovely Valentine's meal.
We had a wonderful, memorable Valentine’s date. The food and drinks were extraordinary.
The food has been consistently fabulous.....if you could find a way to dampen the noise that would make it perfect!
THe food was delicious, the cocktails were awesome. The main problem was the service. We waited almost 30 min for someone to stop by our table after we were seated, and after our food came out, no one came by again for quite awhile. I wanted to order more wine and even dessert, but there was no one to take the order. There was a large party in the restaurant at the same time, and I realize that requires quite a bit of attention, but we were completely ignored.
I researched St Jack heavily in anticipation of visiting Portland. Sadly, it didn’t stack up. We ordered the Steak frites (flat iron) and Lamb Shank Confit. The food was far too salty, and while the service was ok, we were completely out of water and cocktails by the time our server noticed (due to the salty food).
I am a fan of salt, but this was over the top.
We ate at Deschutes the following day, and it was a better meal, for much less. To sum, this is not the high end restaurant that you are looking for.
Everything was tasty as usual. My dish was lukewarm however.
Waiter was slow to come back around. To our table each time.
Noise level is becoming a distractor to everything g else that is so good about this restaurant.
Wonderful ambiance. Very cozy. Enjoyed the service. Not rushed. Wine and drinks menu expectedly varied and deep. Will return.
I didn't like my dish, told a waiter I can't eat it, he says, "ok" then walks away without removing my dish until he comes back with the check.
Wonderful food, nice service would highly recommend and come back.
Love this place...love the food and the ambiance. Had a great time!!!❤️❤️❤️
Great food as always. Only complaint was we still waited about 25 mins for our table even though we had booked which meant we had to quickly order so we were back for our babysitter
The food was good but nothing fabulous. We had to wait almost 30 minutes past our reservation to be seated. The waitress didn't seem like she cared. She never checked back after serving our appetizers, main dishes and dessert. I was hoping for a fabulous meal but it was just so so.
Dinner at the chefs bar was a treat, however we often felt forgotten or overlooked by our sever. We would often go long periods without a check in and had to reuse our plates for courses. Our crab gratin was lovely and So was our butter lettuce salad. We wanted to ask for additional baguette for our gratin but never got a chance as our server never checked in with us. Perhaps you should try to go to dinner on a less busy evening (we went on a Saturday).
I can't think of a bad thing to say about St Jack....
The food? Outstanding. OK. Well, the tripe wasn't great, but it was still probably the best tripe I'll ever have in my life.
The service? Pretty darned close to perfect. Attentive without being pesky, and for a busy Saturday night, this can be hard to achieve. We sat at the kitchen counter, so I got to sit and watch the magic in the restaurant unfold, and I was mesmerized all evening long.
For the quality of the food and the service, the prices feel 'right'-and the portions are just right as well-not too much, not too little.
One of my favorite meals in Portland, and I'm already counting the days until I can return.
We had two entrees that were cooked very poorly. The steak was served rare although we ordered medium. The vegetable dish was not warm. We sent it back and it came back the same after about a ten minute wait. A restaurant this expensive should not have these issues with timing and service.
We were happily surprised by how refined this restaurant was, in terms of food, service, and ambiance. We didn’t actually realize there was a separate dining room before making the reservation so instead of sitting in the bar, which has a quite different atmosphere, we sat in the dining room. It felt quaint, understated, and sophisticated. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. And our server was very attentive and super knowledgeable about the wine selection. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a romantic date night or special occasion.
St. Jack is always a great choice for a great food!
The cod with a side of pomme puree was excellent!
If any restaurant in Portland deserves a Michelin Star, it is St Jack. From the moment you walk in until the time you leave your dining experience will be unparalleled. Welcome to how a restaurant should be run; unique cocktails, delightful service by experienced staff and food that surpasses description. Don’t wait for a special occasion to enjoy one of the finest restaurants in Portland.
St Jack is where you will find the finest ingredients, expertly prepared and meticulously presented.
